Sick while pregnant

i apologize if this thread has already been created but I'm feeling awful, bedridden, and just hopped on to ask this question.

I'm so sick today. I have fluid in my lungs, a sore throat, muscle aches and pains, etc but thankfully no fever. This is my second time getting sick during this pregnancy but this time is so much worse. It worries me because it's not just me I'm concerned about anymore! Usually when I'm sick like this I just ride it out, but I'm thinking I should go see a doctor to make sure I don't need antibiotics or something. In this situation would you call your OB or primary doc?

Re: Sick while pregnant

  • Call your OB and ask what they'd prefer.  Our OB's optic is that they become your PCP when pregnant so they have continuous knowledge of any treatments you may be getting.  They may send you somewhere else, but I'd give them the first chance.

  • I ended up with the flu when I was newly pregnant with DD2. It was hell.

I personally don't call my OB for GP type concerns, but I did call to double check some of the Rx my GP sent me home with before filling them. Especially since I was still in the first tri.

  • If you think you have fluid in your lungs I'd definitely see a doctor. Hope you feel better.
  • I would call your ob and see if they want you to see them. Like pp, my doctor prefer to pretty much handle everything during pregnancy so they know what's going on and so that they know any meds you go on are ok. They might say to go to your primary, but it's worth asking. Sympathy for sickness in pregnancy. It sucks so much.
  • Thanks everyone! I did call my OB yesterday and was told to see my PCP so that's what I did. I got a flu test and it was negative, thankfully, so it looks like I just have your "common" cold. My doctor said unfortunately colds are horrible right now and lasting for 2+ weeks, ugh. I was feeling very awful and feverish last night but fortunately I never got above 100. Just trying to rest and drink a lot of fluids. Being sick while pregnant is horrible.

  • Being sick while pregnant is the pits.  Feel better soon!
  • I had constant colds during my first pregnancy. It's horrible! I would definitely take some of the approved medicines to get just a little bit of relief. I'm so sorry you're sick. I hope you get to rest and that this will pass soon.
