Surprising SO with sex of baby?

I thought about just ending the title at "sex" but figured I'd make my discussion a little more clear  ;)
Anyways, anyone planning on finding out the baby's sex and surprising their SO? I have an ultrasound next week and can find out the sex, DH won't be with me and doesn't know. Debating on it being written down and opening together on Christmas morning, or finding out at the ultrasound and putting a gift in his stocking.

I already know he's 100% okay with being surprised. I just don't know if I can not look when the tech is seeing the sex! Thoughts or anyone joining me?

  • @MKRLTX That's adorable! I'm leaning more towards finding out and having a gift in his stocking that says which sex the baby is...I just can't see myself sitting in the ultrasound and NOT looking!

@Mother0fDragons I was thinking earlier, you surprised your DH right? How long did you know before you told him?

  • @mkrltx @devwow even if I planned to get the ultrasound tech to write it in an envelope and I cheated and looked at the ultrasound, I would have had zero clue what I was looking at.  placenta and penis can look the same at some angles, and if it's a girl you basically just see nothing.  when the tech told us DD was a girl we were like "if you say so" and made them reconfirm it at any other ultrasound we happened to have haha.  my AS was on the early side, 18 weeks, so we just wanted to be sure!  sometimes you'll clearly see a penis but sometimes you won't, and not seeing an obvious penis (to you, the untrained observer) doesn't necessarily mean it's a girl!
  • @delujm0. Truth.  My OB guessed girl with every pregnancy at our 14w US.  Didn't get the truth until our AS each time.

  • @delujm0 @Xath though I'm not an u/s expert, I had about 30 ultrasounds with my son so I'm at least well versed in looking at a penis and placenta  :D
I'll be 17 weeks at this ultrasound so I'm not overly concerned about it being too early to tell. We found out with DS at 18 weeks.
I more so just need to "see" what they are talking about for my own comfort...whether or not I totally get what the tech I showing me. I guess it's my science brain that needs to see the "evidence" haha!

  • I got the phone call at 9AM and waited until 6PM at our photo shoot.

I dokt think I could have waited until the next day. I was bursting!!!
  • @Mother0fDragons ah! I'm somehow convincing myself I can wait till Christmas morning (2 days after I find out). We will see...
