I will not have a registry since this is our second. But this seems really early to start one. If you really want to get started, I recommend getting advice from your friends that have had kids and also, the Baby Bargains book is a great resource (there's one for each year so I'd get the 2017). You can do private registries on Amazon.

I've started a list of things for baby on my computer and a private baby registry on Amazon. I'm itching to start a registry but plan to wait until at least 15 weeks to start actually registering at stores maybe 20 plus weeks. Most things I hope to register for are going to be gender neutral.
I'll have to check out Baby Bargains and Lucie's List. I know its way early to create the registry and give it to anyone. Only my immediate family knows anyway Do any STM+ or anyone have any suggestions for definite needs, nice to haves, and don't waste the money items?
@aaronandaryn I never got one of those super structured baby carriers.. only the Boba or Moby.. Now I'm super jealous that all of my friends are able to carry their toddlers around (you'll get use out of this thing forever), and I'm too cheap to buy myself a good one!
@Aaronandaryn I loved my Boba, perfect for when they're teeny tiny. You should definitely get a Fisher Price rock and play. I know a lot of people that have the Mamaroo and everyone says it's just okay not really impressed for the cost.
STM recommendation..... for all ftms, it is SO overwhelming to register. I found it helpful to find a friend or two and take them with me to register. They were a huge help in telling me what they couldn't live without, what they never used, and gave ideas of things I wouldn't have even considered.
For me, I couldn't live without a rock n play, Fisher price swing, white noise machine, and tons of burp clothes. No need to register for clothes- you will get tons of them anyways.
Another suggestion.... order your furniture around 20 weeks bc it takes a while to come in. this also gives you some leeway incase anything comes damaged so you have time for any replacements.
@kristenk727 Yes how could I forget the white noise machine! That's a necessity! We had the sleep sheep and I even caught DH sleeping with it a few times...
I started mine because it helps me channel my excitement without being too committal (I have major fears which would prevent me from actually buying things right now haha). We are trying a very minimal approach for space and budget reasons, so I found a few mom-blogs geared towards that and just picked most of what they suggested. Here is what I have so far if you want to take a look:
I haven't even thought about a registry lol.. I am going to make one for that sweet, sweet completion coupon though. I agree with @britvahok on Lucie's List too. Awesome resource.
I will also probably do one for completion coupon but this is our third so we don't need much...new bottles is coming to mind immediately but not much else.
Baby bargains and lucies list are great resources.
I love my ktan. I didn't have it to for my first. I'd definitely skip the moby...I just found it to be a pain.
Yes on the white sound machine! Another life saver for us was the Halo sleep sack! DS hated being swaddled and would work his arms out and wind up with a flap of blanket over his face, it scared us to death. We got the sleep sacks that kept his arms free and it was a life changer. For burp clothes, I love the cloth diapers ones that are thick in the middle for extra absorption. If you have a Buy Buy Baby near you, I highly recommend registering there, they have great stuff and it's super organized. You can use bed, bath, and beyond coupons there, as well!
We have the Medela pump in style. I think most insurance plans now cover a pump so check into that! I really liked the pis (ha) it really helped me keep my supply up for DD.
I would be careful with what you actually start buying. I borrowed a lot of the big ticket items before buying. Good thing we borrowed a swing since DD hates it.
I will make a registry for the coupon. I need a new thermometer because ours got lost and maybe a couple new towels.
You only need 1/3 of what you think you need and you can buy most of it at consignment sales in like new condition because people realized their baby hated X item, or never got around to using it because they had so much stuff, etc.
Also a fan of medela pump in style. Though I've used it since 2013 and I think some new models get great reviews, but I still love my medela. I had my doc write an rx specifically for it my first time. Now it's just the default our hospital gives.
Another vote for the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. I exclusively pumped for 9 months and it did a great job of keeping my supply up. I've also heard great things about the Spectra S9, that's what I plan to try this time around since insurance will cover it.
We will probably only register for another bed, an additional stroller attachment and a future car seat. Everything else will be something we have. Clothes if it's a boy will be the biggest thing. Overall second baby should be kind of breezy! Cloth diapers for new cute prints could however break my bank lol
