Overheating

Hello fellow bumpies,

I didn't think this really belonged in any other thread, but if it does let me know and I'll move it. Anyways, I took a shower this morning, and even though I was checking to make sure my skin wasn't flushing, I apparently got slightly overheated. When I got out I just felt too warm (I've been to hot from showers before, pre-pregnancy, so I know the feeling) I felt better within five minutes, and have been drinking cool water. Anything to worry about? I'm kind of thinking it was so minor and so short term that I'm ok, but I wanted other opinions. I'm an FTM.

Re: Overheating

  • I used to get overheated from a hot bath and feel dizzy and almost sick to my stomach. You are fine it's just a matter of blood pressure, increased blood flow and your hormones messing with your body's ability to regulate itself. Try not to over do it but I promise its normal. Drinking lots of water (over the day not right after the shower) helps too. If you are showering you can always do a bit of a cool down and turn the temperature down before you get out - that will help tremendously

  • I have the same issue. I open the window in our shower a tiny little bit to have a bit of cool air moving in which seems to help.

  • Awesome, thank you both for making me feel better. Every time I look something up it gets so alarmist. I googled it, but I kept getting that overheating causes birth defects and all other kinds of things, but I couldn't imagine that 5 minutes and a shower would lead to that. It wouldn't describe how severe, or how long it had to last, for it to actually become a problem.

  • I cannot agree more strongly with @ashaw512 . Stay far, far away from Dr. Google if you value your sanity.

  • Word of advice: Never use Dr. Google. Never. If there's something truly bothering you, call your doctor. Nothing good ever comes from google.
    I agree with this 1000%

  • I totally read this thread title as "overeating" and was like yeah, I can relate to that!
  • I have the same issue. I open the window in our shower a tiny little bit to have a bit of cool air moving in which seems to help.
Omg I'm so jealous you have a window to open in the shower!!!!! I want one so bad!!! LOL
  • I seriously wouldn't sweat it, heating up a little in the shower is usually not dangerous unless you're dizzy and feel faint. Turn the water to cool for a few seconds before hopping out. The cool water also helps relieve the itchies of a growing belly.
  • So I had no clue that you are supposed to stay away from hot baths when you are pregnant. I am a FTM and my doctor never mentioned it to me! Honestly, a warm bath and a book is the only thing I look forward to at the end of a long work day, especially since a glass of wine is off the table. I just watch the water temp.
  • Dr Google is the enemy.  Getting too warm and flushed after a hot shower is totally normal.  When you hear about the risks of overheating it means don't sit in a hot tub for 20mins or relax in a sauna.. that kind of thing.  When you are dying from heat in June you will look back at this and think "ya that shower back in the first tri was nothing".  My son was an August baby and June/July were the closest thing to hell I will (hopefully) ever experience.
