MOTN-December

anyone else finding it harder to sleep?

Re: MOTN-December

  • Yes. For the past few weeks I've gotten up every night to pee in the middle of the night. And I find it harder to get comfortable. I got a body pillow, which helps a little bit. Our bed is a queen, so it's not really big enough for one of those pregnancy pillows.

  • Ugh, yes. Pregnancy insomnia has started so much earlier this time. I'm up like clockwork somewhere between 2 and 3, and the DH snores like there's no tomorrow so it takes me forever to get back to sleep. DS is dealing with a cold right now, and every time I hear him cough on the monitor it jolts me back awake. C'mon, body; I need the sleep!

  • Trying to fall asleep with non-stop heart palpitations every single night. ugh! I am so over it. I just lay in bed feeling like my heart is going to explode for at least 30 minutes every night. It happens a lot throughout the day, but is the worst at night when I am trying to fall asleep.

  • I was having a horrible time for awhile with getting comfortable and was in a lot of pain. But for the last week after my snoogle came in the mail I've been sleeping way better. Not great, but much better. I'm also not currently waking up to pee because I've made myself drink a ton of water in the morning and afternoon, and then cut myself off around 6 or so. I'm sure as I get bigger I'll start waking up anyway but for now I'm enjoying it.

But probably the most helpful thing is that during weeknights, DH has been sleeping in the guest bed. Which I absolutely hate, but he says he'd rather I be well rested and we can sleep together on weekends. Ugh. But I have to say I'm grateful because he has a tendency to roll over onto me and wake me up. Or punch me in the face or knee me in the belly which is clearly a bad idea.  :D
  • I have a love/hate relationship with my snoogle. Some nights it's amazing, and others it's literally a pain in my neck. I wake up every time I change positions, I feel like I can hear EVERYTHING. My dog sighs, the wind blows, our neighbors open their garage door, etc. DH even bought a mouth piece to help with his snoring, which is working wonders, but I CAN STILL HEAR HIM BREATHING. I wear earplugs, but end up taking them out because they start to make my ears itch. Plus work is about to suuuuuuck for the next few months (I will be looking forward to the "break" of maternity leave believe it or not) so I get to stress about that all night. Maybe I just need to accept that my time for sleep has already run out?

  • I wake up every night like clock work at 11:33 and 3:38. Seriously every night. I don't normally have a problem going back to sleep after the 1130 pee break but the 340 one is getting harder and harder. I can hear the dog breathing which is annoying and then DH ends up on my side of the bed. Thankfully I'm off on Mondays since I work 4-10s so I went back to sleep around 6 for almost two hours but I can't do that every other day of the week. Why must the weekends be so short
  • Totally. No matter how I sleep I wake up in extreme back pain so I often get out of bed early so I don't have to lay there in pain any longer
  • @Magheeta I recommend a white noise machine. That's helped me a lot in blocking out noises.

@HGRich I use my body pillow to keep DH away from me. It's in the middle of the bed and he has to stay on his side. That's also been a life-saver.

  • Seconding the white noise machine. I've always needed a fan or television or some sort of white noise to help me sleep. Otherwise, every little sound wakes me up.

  • I keep finding myself rolling into my back and then waking up because my hands are falling asleep. Between that and the peeing I am exhausted!
  • @chelle087 YES! I wake up on my back all the time, which is strange bc I've never been a back sleeper. I'm always worried it's going to cause baby girl an issue but it almost always causes my hands or feet to get tingly.

@catem07 haha! I got the snoogle mini so it's not quite big enough to fend him off. But perhaps I should use the rest of the pillows and make a fortress.

I also agree on the white noise. Our little fan broke so until I buy another I've been using the "infinite storm" app on my phone for white noise. It's pretty effective, though I do want my fan back.
  • Ugh, woken up at 435 by a terrible leg cramp. I've never had one before and it was pure torture

That was me this morning at 3:30. If I can wake up enough to think clearly, getting out of bed and standing on that leg pretty much eliminates it right away. The trouble is that it usually takes me a few minutes to remember and those minutes are torture!! :D

  •  I have been falling asleep early and fairly easily since I am so exhausted, but when DH comes to bed I wake up and have the worst heartburn. I don't remember heartburn this early last time around. Maybe I just blocked it out!
  • Wide awake. 4:50 am.

  • Oh my gosh I am so glad you started this thread! I have been up for hours in the middle of the night every day this week! Ughhh. So tired! I flew home from my parents' house last week with an 8 hr time change, so I thought it was just that, but it's been going on too long for jet lag alone!
  • One perk to my 2 year old not sleeping through the night... I'm way better at functioning during the day with my severely interrupted sleep.  I was up at 11:30, 3, and 5.  I hate laying there knowing I should be asleep and not being able to relax.  I'm hoping to sleep through the night in about 5 years or so. :)

  • I thought my trouble sleeping recently was due to my anxiety but it sounds like it's a pretty common issue! I have been waking up 4-5 times a night to pee since the beginning, but lately it has become much harder to fall back asleep. Doesn't help that my cats think "mom is awake!" every time I get up and then proceed to beg for attention and/or think it's time for breakfast. Hoping they adjust now so they are used to me waking up multiple times during the night when baby boy is here!

  • Yes.  And pregnancy pillow does not work - too hard.  I have broken sleep every night, since about 10 weeks - it's now become the norm to sleep for a few hours, then up for a few hours, then sleep again.  I guess it is good practice for the baby??

  • I had a really rough patch about a month ago. I would wake up about 2 or 3 and be up for at least 1 to 2 hours. Now, I'm sleeping peacefully again. I'd really appreciate it if it stayed this way since I do not function well on little sleep.

  • @KirstinH88 me neither! I've long known I'm just one of those people who needs sufficient sleep to function. I have been dreading the late pregnancy and newborn days just for that reason alone. Oh my word. Currently I'm sleeping really well (once I do fall asleep) compared to my first trimester. But I suspect it will only last so long and I'll miss these weeks.
  •  In the last week or so I've had a few nights where I sleep from about nine until midnight and then am wide awake for a few hours. I get sleepy again around three in the morning and,  on work days, I get to sleep until four thirty.
  • Well been awake since 3 again.. had a horrible dream.. I woke up crying.. I don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to sleep after that one.

  • I have not been able to get comfortable and stay asleep for the last several days. I wake up and my lower back is in so much pain. I've tried sleeping on my sides with a pillow between my legs but that isn't comfortable and I always wake up in a different poisition. My Fitbit sleep tracking was so depressing this morning. I fall back asleep easily, but I woke up so many times in the night. I ended up switching to the couch at midnight just to get some more stability and support laying on my side. Anyone have suggestions?

  • Sorry to hear so many people are having sleeping issues lately.  Hope we all get a full night of sleep soon!!!! :/

Soooo I opened my Christmas gift from DH last night and it's a Snoogle!! Hooray! I tried it out last night and overall, I think I'm really going to like it.  I woke up once and had managed to lie on my back (in spite of the pillow), but when my alarm went off I was sleeping happily on my side.  However - for those of you who have Snoogles, how in the everliving world do you change the pillowcase on that thing?  I assumed that there would be a zipper on the case, but instead it appears to work like the world's biggest, most awkward pillow condom. :) Tips appreciated, thanks!

  • @schef070911 I  purchased a separate pillowcase that has a zipper.
  • @thecavfamily Yeah, I think I'm going to need to do that too because the pillowcase is really ridiculous.
