When are you planning on taking classes?

What weeks are people taking childbirthing classes? Others? I know people have mentioned the infant CPR classes, and breastfeeding as well.

I don't want to forget everything before I actually get to delivery, but I also don't want to be the mom sitting in my infant care class who kept getting asked if she was going into labor... the birthing classes I'm looking at I could take at weeks 27, 31, or 35. Interested in some perspective.

I am not taking any classes.  this will be my third csection and i am an RN so i get certified for infant and adult CPR every year but i would say take the birthing class around 31 weeks and maybe the breastfeeding class after that.  35 weeks to me is cutting it close.  and i definately recommend infant cpr.  that could probably wait til 35 weeks.

I'm taking a CPR class, breastfeeding class and a infant care class in December (27-30 weeks)....will probably take a childbirth class in January sometime. I'm due early March so I don't think it's all too early for me to forget everything!

Oh and at our hospital we have a lactation consultant that goes in to see breastfeeding moms.  if you dont make it to a breastfeeding class find out if your hospital or md has someone like this.  they can be a great help.

I'm not taking classes. I get CPR certified for work and this is my 3rd baby so the other stuff will hopefully come back to me. With my first I self educated, I read about 40 books while pregnant. I may go and try and find another water birth book to go through again while I'm on Christmas break

We're taking a childbirth class and baby basics class since this is our first child. DH is an accountant so we're taking ours a bit early (25-27 weeks) so that he can participate since his work schedule gets crazy in January. If I'm interested I'll take more solo closer to time

We're trying the Bradley method, so we've already started since it's a 12 week class. I think 27 or 31 weeks would be ample time to take a single childbirth class. I would be nervous to wait till 35.

Not taking any classes, and didn't with my first. I felt prepared enough with a little informative reading and watching my own YouTube birth videos ;)

personally felt like the breastfeeding stuff could wait till baby arrived because it's half their work to learn and like PPs said you get the days in the hospital with a lactation consultant if you have any issues.

After discussing it with DH, I don't think we are going to do any classes.  I kind of feel like the stuff I can learn ahead of time I already know or have researched and the rest of it you just have to go through to learn.

This is our first baby together, so we're taking The Bradley Method birth classes, per high recommendations of a very good friend. It's a 10 week session that begins Jan 8th, but because of my due date we have already taken the last 2 classes this month (Breastfeeding, as well a Baby Care Basics). I am also taking the Breastfeeding and Baby Care Basics classes that are offered through my insurance. I am already CPR certified because of my job, but maybe will do a refresher!

My hospital offers an online childbirth class, which you have access to for 12 weeks once you purchase it. I think i'll purchase it in December or January in case me or DH needs to look at it again in February. They also offer a free online breastfeeding course, which I plan on doing in maybe January. I plan on signing up to take a newborn basics class for things like umbilical care, etc in January

I'm taking a breastfeeding class, newborn care and childbirth class.  They'll all be done in January.  I think the latest one I'm scheduled for is the first weekend in Feb.  My hospital recommends all classes be done at least 4 weeks before the birth.  Not taking infant CPR because I'm an RN and am already certified, but I highly recommend you take it if you never have!!

Our classes through the hospital start in Jan.

I'm taking the childbirth class this month and then will do Newborn Basics in January and breastfeeding in Feb. I decided to spread them out once a month since they're really long. I'm perplexed as to if I should drag DH to the breastfeeding class. The hospital recommends partners come but he's a very sqweemish person. Is anyone else taking a breastfeeding one with their husbands?

@BaylieGirl - My DH is coming to the breastfeeding class we are taking in January. It was encouraged as the class is supposed to provide information on how he can support me.

@BaylieGirl I'm taking DH to my breastfeeding class...I figure he needs to be a support to me too and the more he knows and understands might be helpful if I'm having a difficult time.

Funny this was asked today. DH and I just signed up for our classes last night! :) We pretty much went with whatever was offered and what worked for our schedules, as well as what we felt was pertinent.

This Saturday we are attending a Feeding Your Baby class - Birth to One Year. I have zero knowledge about what to expect when babies can start consuming solids and all that. While DH and I watch our weight, I still feel we could learn more about how to model healthy eating habits. Most importantly, it'd be helpful for DH to hear it from someone other than me. He'll realize then it's not just me nagging him. ;)

In January we are attending a Breastfeeding class together, and he will be taking a First Time Dad class as well. Then in February, we are taking a Car Seat Safety class. I will be taking classes at roughly 25, 32, and and 35 weeks. I figure the fresher the info is, the better. :) Plus I'm the type who'd feel more self-conscious doing them too early and not "looking pregnant enough" versus looking like I could go into labor at any moment. However, that was also the least of my worries. Again, what and when we scheduled things was based on what was offered and what we could fit in.

Best part is that all the classes are free! So even if we have to cancel due to having the baby sooner than expected or whatnot, no big deal.

I'd vote for earlier, like the 27 weeks. Most of the ladies in my classes were between 24 and 29 weeks.
I took classes this November since the hospital near me doesn't run any during December, and I didn't want to wait until January. (I'm due March 1st so I feel like he might make his appearance in February instead, and didn't want to cut it close.) I know a lot of people said that reading books and watching videos helped them, but I am anxious, like structure, and wanted to have DH there to know he was absorbing all the same info. So the classes felt totally worth the time and cost! I left with more confidence and reassurance. I hope you enjoy yours too :)

This is baby number four so we aren't taking any classes, but we did take a childbirth class with our first who was also a March baby.  It was offered through the hospital and we took in January so around 31/32 weeks.  I wouldn't wait much beyond that to take the class.  If you plan to breastfeed, I'd recommend taking a breastfeeding class or making sure your hospital has a lactation consultant on hand when you deliver.

I'll be taking my classes in January. DH is coming to the childbirth class (we opted for the all day class instead of the one that spanned 3 evenings) and the "welcoming baby" class. I'm CPR certified but scared to death of ever having to use it on an infant - would want to watch a video on it as a refresher. I'm taking a breastfeeding class also but solo. I'm planning to watch different youtube videos & do more research on the things the classes will cover after January, hopefully I won't feel so incompetent by then.

Pretty different in Canada I think.  I took nothing with my first. and won't take anything with this one. Public  health nurse comes and does a in home visit after baby is born. lactation consultants are available at every hospital and it's brought up at every appointment post natally. I don't see how a class on birthing/breast feeding could have prepared me for actually birthing and breastfeeding. M obgyn was awesome and the nurses at the hospital were amazing breast feeding support.
