Uncomfortable Pants, Anyone?

I will be 12 weeks on Wednesday (3rd pregnancy that has made it this far) and today was the day where I finally could not bear to try to close my work pants! SOOO uncomfortable. Now, full disclosure, I have put on some weight over the past 6 months in general, so my pants have been tightening anyway. But this morning, there was no way my pants were closing. And it's not bloat because I have not been experiencing much of that. It feels too early even though I think it's really not for STM+. Have you made the leap to maternity pants? If so, what week did you do it?

Re: Uncomfortable Pants, Anyone?

  • I'll be 13 weeks in a few days. This is my second pregnancy that got this far and I am definitely finding that I can't button my jeans. I'm a little freaked out because I didn't buy a pair of maternity pants until I was about 28 weeks last time. I'm a small girl and I'm hoping that I'm just showing faster and this is not an indication that I'm also going to have a really huge belly this time around.

But yeah, I'm not necessarily jumping into maternity pants. But definitely sliding over into leggings.

  • Oh Maternity pants all day long! I went the day before Thanksgiving and stocked up! I am 12 weeks today so I think I was 10wks then.  My other two pregnancies were opposite seasons than this one.
  • I can definitely button them and they are fine in the morning, but, just like last time, I seem to be more pregnant as the day goes on so by afternoon those suckers are bothering me. LOL. Living in LLR dresses for work. They are my savior

  • I have been in maternity pants pretty much since I hit double digit weeks.  I tried in vain a pair of regular pants because I didn't have maternity that matched the shirt I wanted and nope...not even close.  I love stretchy pants.

  • I've been pretty much avoiding all pants and just wearing dresses and cardigans! I did buy some belly bands a couple weeks ago but it's tight and uncomfortable. I guess I will have to buy maternity soon, I'm just about 12 weeks and this is my first but I'm short and have a short torso.

This. I wear them all weekend long so when Monday hits each week, it gets harder and harder to put regular pants on! This last weekend was a 3-day weekend so it was even worse this morning.

  • Oh I made the switch at 11 weeks, so happy. Granted I'm having twins and it's my third pregnancy to be this far, but I totally understand the pressure and discomfort of tight pants!
  • I had to make a switch to at least stretchy pants by 7-8 weeks. I guess my pants were too tight to begin with! Full on maternity pants won't fit yet, so I'm in leggings, yoga pants, stretch jeans with bella bands etc.

Ducks and covers, but not yet for me. I had lost weight to begin with; my pants are still too big for me.

I haven't bought new, smaller pants because who knows when I'll be into them again, so the constant hiking up is starting to get annoying.

  • I will be 15 weeks on Wednesday and I think I busted out my stretchy pants 2ish weeks ago. I have a few regular pairs that were looser to begin with so those fit OK for now.

I'd rather be comfortable then worry about when the right time to wear maternity clothing.
  • I have zero maternity clothes and unfortunately I'm short in stature, so I ordered clothes online, until they arrive I'm counting on my Bella band to get me through.  I'm 13 weeks (fifth pregnancy).
  • Not even gonna lie, I switched to my maternity uniform at 9 weeks!  No shame in my game and I just didn't want to wear pants that required a belt everyday as a mandatory part of my uniform.  Otherwise I run around in yoga pants for the most part when not at work.
  • I don't wear pants/jeans often (I usually wear dresses to work and sweats while I'm at home) but for casual Friday I started wearing maternity jeans at 10 weeks (STM).  To be fair though, I could still button my normal jeans, I just didn't feel like it because elastic waistbands are so much more comfortable in general.  I'd wear them for the rest of my life if I wouldn't be judged for it.  I think I switched to them at 13 weeks with DD.

FWIW I had gained 4lbs at my 12 week appointment, and I still think it's partially bloat, so I don't think I LOOK much different yet.  I haven't broken out maternity dresses or anything else.  Just jeans so far.

  • I said f--- pants a few weeks ago.  I've been wearing stretchy dresses and leggings since then.

  • I haven't worn a regular pair of pants in about 2 weeks. I'm 11 weeks along, 2nd baby. I've been able to get away with leggings, dresses, and over sized sweaters. Its not that pants weren't fitting, they were just so uncomfortable. I can say now, pants don't fit. I tried maternity jeans last week, but the band was still too high. I ordered some maternity leggings with the shorter band last week. I'll keep making do with leggings, dresses, and sweaters until I'm big enough for maternity clothes.
  • Yeah about 6w I was like oh I do not have time for trousers anymore and I went to H&M, got myself maternity jeans and I've been in them ever since. Last pregnancy I wore lululemon the second and third trimester. I just feel that pregnancy is not a time to be any more uncomfortable than you have to be. All for the stretch!
  • 2nd baby and I'm 15 weeks on Thursday.
Most def. been rocking the stretchy pants, leggings and maternity jeans for a few weeks now. I just like to be comfortable so I'm not really caring "at what time" I bust out the maternity wear. As long as I feel good and like the way I look, I'll wear it!

  • @Wearmi1 when you say Maternity Uniform you make me think military?

I went to maternity pants for work and school on Saturday, I was 10w2d. 2nd pregnancy. Mostly changed because my slacks started to roll off my tummy and bunch up.

  • This has actually been a stressful topic for me. I need to stop comparing to others and to my first pregnancy. But I had a noticeable bump forming at 14 weeks last time and my pants were uncomfortable at this point. I am still in regular clothes and am fine. I have been so freaked out that something is wrong and that she stopped growing. I don't have a home Doppler or an appointment for two weeks. I've been thisclose to buying a Doppler just for peace of mind.

I thought you showed earlier with #2? Where's my bump
  • Thanks, @BethK9. I will keep trying to repeat that to myself when that worrying voice creeps in.
  • This topic is so relevant for me today. I've been asking DH for about 2 weeks now if I have a bump. Well today's the day I don't have to ask, 11w2d with baby #1 and boy do I feel pregnant. I haven't been buttoning my jeans for about 2 weeks now and today, I couldn't wait to get home to get them off (SO uncomfortable). While my bump isn't that noticeable, regular jeans just aren't cutting it. I have only bought one paid of maternity jeans and a few pairs of maternity leggings that I have been wearing on the weekends. Going to be going shopping for more soon. Need the stretch!
  • @Mother0fDragons I had an anterior placenta with my second and was in my normal jeans for a really long time! At least 20 weeks!

I gave into maternity leggings this week and they are amazing! My maternity clothes from before are still too big so I either wear my jeans unbuttoned or leggings.  I'm definitely in maternity shirts! Normal shirts just make me look fat.
  • Second pregnancy here, and I haven't been able to button my pants for about three weeks. I've mostly been wearing maternity pants because they are way more comfortable than the hair tie & belly band trick! I wasn't this big until 16-17 weeks last time.
  • First here... 11w today wth #1.  Bloat seems to have subsided but it was AWFUL weeks 9-10, so I bought a few pairs of maternity pants from Kohls.  I've not worn them yet but I'm sure it won't be far off, especially since I cannot fit in my jeans.  I'm most worried about work clothes... I have to secretly unbutton my pants at work now but the mat ones I bought from Kohls were hideous. Only one more week in dress clothes then a month in scrubs so I'm hoping I can hold out...

  • Jeans were the first to go around 10 weeks bc really why not?
Work pants get really uncomfortable by the end of the day so Im partially switched over this week (12+). This is my second pregnancy.
  •  Can I get an amen for yoga pants????  I've given up on all other pants at this time.

  • I got out the maternity pants as soon as the bloat made me uncomfortable (8 weeks or so?)

However, since I've lost weight since I was expecting DD, none of my maternity clothes are even close to fitting. Doesn't help that they're all capris and shorts from being pregnant over the summer last time...

Ive been making do with a couple pairs of Target under belly pants but figuring out my size is tricky!

  • I started pretty early.  Maybe 9 weeks?  It's been rough.  Currently I have 2 pairs of pre-pregnancy pants I can wear.  One pair of "fat" jeans that are a size up and still a little big, and one part of stretchy jeans but those are getting close...  I bought a few pairs of maternity pants and HATE THEM!  THey are soooo uncomfortable... omg HATE IT.  I literally come home from work and put on pajama pants and then cry when I have to go back to work and put on real pants again.  I'm not much of a dress person.  I dont know what i'm going to do when my belly gets bigger.. I really hate the maternity pants...  I'm a college professor, I can't wear PJ's to lecture!!!

  • I struggle with the same issu. I gained weight then got pregnant. I had to give up my wedding band and engagement ring! Anyone else have to? If they still don't fit after I lose the weight after baby then I'll resize them but I'd rather avoid it if possible.

But yes I've been wearing leggings so yeah. Lol Maternity pants will have soon for sure. I'm 12w1d.
  • I'm all about that maternity pants life, but mine aren't fitting yet. I go on a three+ week break from work in the next couple weeks. I imagine when I return in January I will have to transition, but during the holidays it will be sweatpants and leggings!
  • @Mistiemorning i have weird puffy fingers.. like they are not the same width all the way down, and the base of my finger is more narrow than the pad part, so it means my rings are really hard to get on and off already but once they are they spin freely (does that make any sense?) So I took mine off as soon as I knew I was pregnant because if my fingers swell at all, they won't come off.  And my wedding ring is my mom's so it has my parents initials and wedding date inside, and i would be crushed if i had to cut it off and ruin the inscription.  I was wearing it on a necklace for awhile, but then that just bothered me so, sorry hubs!  lol

@NarrowHouses thats pretty much my plan.  I am a college professor (last day of class tomorrow! woo hoo) so I'm off until Jan 16th or so and I don't plan on wearing anything but PJ's and leggings between now and then.  The fam is just gonna have to DEAL at the holiday dinners! lol
  • Stretchy pants for liiiiiiiiiiiife!!!!! :)
