Car seat for 1yr old

The seat my 15month old is in is due to expire and we're looking to get a new one. It will likely go from this kiddo to the one currently baking.

What do you have? would you re-purchase/recommend? DO you have a seat you hate/stay away from?

Thanks ladies!!!

Re: Car seat for 1yr old

  • There is a pretty recent thread called 'Baby Gear and Baby Item Recommendations - attempt #2' that has some discussions about car seats. Good luck!

Thank you! I will head over. I tried to search first before posting but my phone was not cooperating.
  • Honestly though, your new baby will need a car seat way before your older child is out of car seats so I wouldn't view it as something that you will pass from Kid to kid.

I agree. A carseat can last 6 years (if I'm not mistaken) before it expire so you may as well have a 2nd new seat for the LO as well. I already posted my thoughts on the baby gear thread but we switched to a britax marathon clicktight convertible at 8 months. Shes still rearfacing in it at 2.25 year and will continue to do so. LO will get their own new convertible seat when were ready to get one.

  • I love both of ours. With my first we went with the Britax Boulevard. It was very pricey but we love it. With our second we went with the Graco contender and love it just as much.

  • Why not buy a seat that will grow with your kid? You most likely won't be able to transfer it anyway.

    I love our Graco4Ever.

  • We have a Chico Nextift and Graco Milestone for my 3yo DD.  She rf's in both of them.  I prefer the Milestone as it has lower sides and is easier to load her into.  The Milestone also converts to a high back booster.

  • We have the Grace 4ever seat as well and love it! It converts to grow with your kiddo and I think the weight limit is 120 lbs. DD is still RFing in it at 2 1/2
  • Both of my girls are in Britax Pavillions (have been since 1) and my oldest turns 5 next week and still hasn't outgrown her seat, so I definitely wouldn't count on being able to pass your seat onto your baby. You'll likely need another convertible seat for the baby way before it's time for your oldest to move to another seat.

I'm realizing that as I research. These kiddos are way closer in age than the 1st two were (new baby will be #4) so with 1 & 2 we were able to pass seats along.

Loving the reviews on these! Thank you! Very cool they've made a seat that is "forever". I like this idea a lot,

I would also add that the Milestone is a version of the 4ever. I think the 4ever goes to a no back booster and the Milestone only goes to a high back booster.  But I think no back boosters are relatively cheap if there's a huge price difference between the Milestone and 4ever.

  • I love our Chicco NextFit Zip. It's hefty, but incredibly easy to install. And the cover unzips for laundering in case of accidents.

This is the one we have for the twins, I just don't know if I can fit 3 across since they are pretty wide.

ETA: while RFing you will still have to practically uninstall to unzip it but it is incredibly easy to reinstall

Just an FYI.  No carseat is "forever".  With what the standards are for a child to not be in a booster, many children don't reach those stats til 12-13 years old.  We have the 4-ever seat and it has a 10 year expiration.  It will expire when our son is 11 and he's short for his age so we most likely will have to buy him another backless booster.  Is you child still rearfacing? If so the 4-ever is a great seat choice. If you have already turned your child around to forward face I would recommend the graco nautilus.  It is basically the same as the 4-ever it just doesn't rear-face.  The 4-ever seat and milestone are only great seats if you are going to use every function it has.  If you are already forward facing you loose the rear-facing function and it really isn't worth the money. My son is 21 months and still Rearfacing.  He will be until he hits 40lbs even though in NC you can start at 1 year. For carseat questions I would def recommend joining the FB group car seats for the littles.  Just a fair warning the group moves very fast and it can be very intimidating at first. However, I've gain so much knowledge from them its great!

I also recommend CSFTL, but they can be a bit harsh there.  I'm in another group called "Child Passenger Safety Group."  It advocates for the same things, but can be a bit friendlier.

Harsh is def an understatement.  They scared the crap out of me at first.  Their admins are no joke.  But very informative.  I always recommend searching the group first to see if your question has been asked.

He's still rearfacing and will be for a long while. Where we live you can forward face at 1yr as well but we don't. We just turned our 3yr old forward facing this month (he'll be 4 in a month and is 38 lbs). I know seats aren't actually "forever" but a backless booster is far less expensive. It's been a minute since I've had to purchase a convertible seat, the one that's expiring was a gift from a family member who bought it to do foster care but ended up taking an older sib-set. It wasn't my favorite and was bulky but we dealt with it because it was brand new and free. Thank you for your suggestions, maybe I'll go lurk on the FB page.
  • Love our Graco MySize 65 Convertible Car Seat.... for the price you can't beat it not big and bulky but not small and has a cup holder which is great ... easy to remove cushions to wash ... husband has a evenflo not sure the name brand but it was more expensive but no cup holder and has foam pieces that remove under the carseat cover and 2 have already broke.

In this case the 4-ever seat is a great choice for you.  We have 2 and will be buying 2 more when baby # 2 turns 1.  It really is a great seat.  It is soooooo easy to install.  I can do it in under 1 minute.  I originally had the diono rainer and while its a great seat, the headrest doesn't move so its HUGE if your RF.  My passenger in my SUV would be sitting in the glove compartment. Plus after 15 minutes of trying to get a good install with the angle adjuster I had to buy I finally gave up and returned it. The 4-ever has a great footprint so it fits perfect in my SUV and my husbands small sedan.
