I want to tell the girls they're getting another sister in a cute way... but cute really isn't my thing. Crass, blunt and unintentionally offensive is more my thing.
We are adding an extra stocking on Christmas morning...
Could you do a pink party randomly so they knew it wasn't for a birthday or other occassion? Have pink lemonade, pink cake or treats... or even do a pink craft with them?
We are handing my stepson an extra stocking on Christmas Eve with an ultrasound picture inside and letting him know we "forgot to add the other stocking". He's 10 and has been begging for a sibling so he'll completely understand.
We did this for the girls. I bought blue-colored silly string and they all sprayed each other to find out what it was. Obviously, my H was ruthless, so everyone ended up crying about being sprayed and forgot to even see what color the string was.
@Assiram42 That's the best! I might steal that idea for our kiddos! My husband would do the same too, he goes into Bear Grylls mode anytime he has some sort of play weapon.
@Assiram42 First off, I keep calling you an ass. My immature mind just takes me there. Even though I know your name is Marissa. Second, that is so fucking cute I can't even.
So I admit to not being the cutesy creative type to come up with fun ideas, but I've heard of a few cute ideas from friends, family and colleagues. One colleague got a cake that said "Future big brothers" for her sons and had the bakeshop use food coloring so the inside of the cake matched the sex of the baby. Her boys cut into it to find out the sex. I had another colleague get her daughter a "gift from the baby". In the bag was a shirt saying "Best big sister" and some other little trinkets to more than imply what was going on. Lastly my cousin told her 3 kids by getting a photo frame with 4 pics (one of each child and the 4th was a ultrasound shot of the new baby). She hung it above the dinner table and waited for the kids to notice that night. She didn't know the sex of the baby at that point, but she let the kids be first to know weeks later by having them read the sex of the baby from what the tech wrote in an envelope at the anatomy scan. The last one might not work since you know the sex of the baby, but maybe there is another way to reveal that component.
I had decided on adding another stocking and stuffing it with big sister shirts and a little sister onesie... but DH admitted he's starting to feel a little tapped out spending wise and both of us are just excited to tell them.
I think we're just going to tell them when DD1 gets home from school today, assuming all goes well at my appointment today.
