I apologise for an all about me thread, I'm having a bit of a panic. Googling is not really helping and I am not going to be able to get in touch with anyone for anything other than an emergency until Monday.
I had a letter that arrived yesterday from the blood and transplant people saying I needed to carry a card as I had a rare blood type because of E (specifically capital E) proteins. This apparently isn't a problem in general life but can cause pregnancy complications. If I ever see a doctor (general), midwife, antenatal clinic etc to show them my card and make them aware.
This hasn't been tied up yet with the fact that I am pregnant (googling suggests it means consultant lead not midwife from now on). It seems to suggest a need for regular blood tests to monitor antibody levels and possibly extra testing of the little one?
I've had nothing extra yet and no idea which blood tests brought this result up, what the levels were or anything.
Does anyone have any experience of rare antibodies or how they are handled. How quickly do I need to get hold of someone?
It's Saturday morning here and I am 36 was tomorrow if that makes any difference?
