  Just my opinion here, but I think a reason why the board is not taking off is because the "Read this first" thread discourages people from starting new threads. I see the July board complains about the same thing - few people want to scroll through dozens, if not hundreds of comments on a "pregnancy chatter" thread to find a single thing that interests them. All of it is too structured and takes away the spontaneity of an online forum. I was in March 2012 back in the day, and read on a few other forums, including some subreddits, and I've never run into anything like this where there are so many rules for what you can/can't post. Do people duplicate threads? Yes. Do people post stuff just to be an AW? Yes. But the boards are self-policed and things are naturally kept in check after some initial chaos. Maybe this should be an UO, but I think things would pick up if people's first encounter with the board was something other than "here are all the things you shouldn't be posting about."

  I agree. When I read that we should post on a chatter thread I was like umm I guess I'm  to get on someone's nerves becuase if I've got a topic I want to talk about you can bet I'm just going to post it.. lol

  I took the chatter threads out a few days ago so if you look back through the "read this first" it is different than what you probably read initially. When I was in a BMB in 2014 it was structured but allowed free flow as well. Which I hope that's how the "read this first" reads now.

  So true. I was on the Sept 2013 and it was nothing like the rules of this group. How boring having it so structured. Also I think it makes it more chaotic to read through one thread than read a bunch of different titled threads. Major eye rolls from me.

  Here are the highlights that jump out for me from the "read this first" thread that still feel like they discourage people from posting:
  

  The community of this board encourages giving support as well as receiving it and prefers threads that benefit the whole rather than the individual.  A wide range of topics are covered in our regular weekly threads.  If you have a specific question please first use the search function if you are looking for specific answers to things to ensure we have not already answered your question. If you cannot find the answer then please post it in one of the weekly topics.  If there is a discussion for the community that would be better served in its own thread, feel free to post it!

  I agree that it can be annoying to have duplicate threads and am fine with consolidating. The part I don't agree with is that people should only create posts if they benefit the whole community. I find it fascinating to read about people's work challenges, about family dynamics, etc. - these are not universal, but I find them interesting and maybe someone does have insight that would be helpful even if they aren't personally going through the exact same thing.

  As an example, I'm getting married in February and just bought a dress on eBay. I tried on the dress and love how it looks now, but am wondering if I'll feel the same way at 17 weeks pregnant. I have not told any friends about my pregnancy, so this is the kind of thing I would have posted on The Bump several years ago but wouldn't do it now. It benefits nobody but me. I do think that members would be interested in checking out the photos, providing input on whether alterations will work with the dress or if I need to get a new one, possibly (probably) judging me for intentionally getting pregnant before my wedding and then fretting about dress details. It's the kind of post where people's personalities come out and how, in the past, we would have built our community and formed friendships. I am having a hard time seeing where it would fit in on this board, though.
