Re: PGAL Check In 12/5

  • 1. How far along are you? 26 weeks 6 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? 3rd tri and doing a 3D ultrasound for fun next week.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Doing my 1 hr glucose test today...the drink isn't bad but I hate waiting to get my blood drawn! Baby still moving quite a bit which puts my mind at ease. The other day DH was laying on my stomach when we were watching tv and she kicked him in the face lol

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? I think the best memories I have is when my grandparents lived up north and we would spend Christmas with them. My grandma always made my favorite cookies and we would go sledding, snowmobiling and ice skate on the lake. Some good childhood memories :)

  • 1. How far along are you? 27+ 4

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Xmas

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: passed my glucose test but found out I have mild anemia so have to take iron supplements. My test for chloestasis hasn't came back yet so also waiting on that. I had to request them test me for that because I have no idea why they didn't after my last loss. Was put on modified work and told to stay away from crowds. So I've pretty much been lounging around the house.

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? My dad has a really big family who live about 4 hours away. When we were little we would all go to my grandmas house for Christmas. So it was like having a huge party. His brother also played for the NFL so he would always get us the best gifts from the companies who endorsed him.
  • 1. How far along are you? 25+3

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? I'm still stuck in the mindset of "I just want to meet my baby already"

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Has anyone else had a ridiculous amount of swelling to the point of discomfort? I flew cross-country this weekend, so I am sure it was triggered by that, but the swelling hasn't gone down in my feet and it literally hurts to walk. Also, anyone have remedies? To give you a visual image, the image on the left is my foot as it normally is. The image on the right was taken last night after I got off the plane and it hasn't gone down at all since then. I can't even see the other half of my tattoo anymore...

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? Christmas in Austin, TX was never white, but we made up for it in Christmas spirit. The number of Christmas traditions that city has leaves nothing to be wanted. I miss Christmas in Austin every year now.
  • @justanotherusername16 soak your feet in Epsom salts. My feet have been swelling when we get warmer temperatures and it hurts to walk. The Epsom salts seem to bring down the swelling. Also maybe try wearing compression socks. I've been doing that lately.

    1. How far along are you? 24 weeks 5 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Not even sure at the moment. Just hoping to manage the holidays as I best I can! We have a lot of plans but I noticed last week that I started getting tired again. I think my second tri honeymoon is over.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I passed my glucose test. I was very happy about that. I also checked out a daycare last week that I really like and will probably end up using. The only problem is that the wait list is until August 2017 and I was hoping for something in June. Our family is about an hour away so we will have to come up something else in the meantime.

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? Probably the Christmases that I got to spend with my Grandparents. They were really special. I got to spend every Christmas with them until I was 18 and my Grandfather passed away the following year. I still miss him around Christmas every year.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, @sarahbobby, I will definitely try that! Also,  congrats on passing your glucose test! I have that next week.
  • Ugh I failed my glucose test by like 7 points....now I have to do the 3 hour test. This really sucks :(
  • @Spartanrd4 sorry to hear that. I went on the weekend to do my glucose test and there was 2 other pregnant moms there doing the 3 hour test. One said she had to do it with her first pregnancy also which she failed the one hour but then passed the 3 hour.
  • @mcdonald-bailey It's just more a pain than anything- I mean obviously I will do whatever it takes to make sure baby is healthy. Thankfully I have the day off on Thursday so I don't need to take time off from work for it. I hear most people pass the 3 hour so we will see!

@sarahbobby I think my second tri honeymoon is over too. I've been back to feeling fatigued and moody lately. The backaches and RLP that accompany the growing weight of my belly isn't helping. But I really don't mean to complain about it all. It's just part of the whole pregnancy deal.

    1. How far along are you? 26 weeks

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Passing my glucose test in a few weeks. (Hope you pass the 3-hour one @Spartanrd4!) Oh, and reaching third tri, which is the same week as my next appt!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Just been really busy over here - keeping up with work, planning the baby shower and nursery, and staying on top of my registry list + typical holiday preparations. DH asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, and I've yet to think of a non-baby/non-registry item I want! He really wants to get me something I can use right on Christmas Day, i.e. not a gift card. So now I also need to think of what I want him to get for me, as well as what to get for him. The nerve of him, right? ;)

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? The Christmas when I walked into the living room, and there was a red bag full of gifts on the floor! My parents explained that my midnight coughing fit - which resulted in my dad getting up to give me medicine - had scared off Santa, so he didn't get time to put everything under the tree. All of the presents in the bag were for me, with one of them being an N64 game console!!! Looking back, I found the ruse so clever! It was also the last Christmas I believed in Santa (the cat would be out of the bag, no pun, within the next year), and I'm grateful to have the memory.

  • @dubcompanion that's an adorable story! What a great memory!
  • @Spartanrd4 Sorry to hear about the glucose test :( Maybe the 3 hours of sitting will be an excuse to read a really good book or something? Good luck on this one!

    1. How far along are you? about 28 weeks

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? I'm not sure! I'm both excited to be this far along and also terrified because we are not reeeeeally ready, haha. Nobody ever truly is, I know.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: There is a disorder called Fragile X Syndrome that runs in my family, but inheritance is really confusing, so I wasn't sure if any of my kids would be at risk or not. We did a blood test and there were some "soft markers" but my doctor wasn't sure if that meant for me as a carrier or that the baby is showing them... so we have to go see a genetic counselor and I'm nervous. I know that I have no control over this and that I shouldn't worry, and that God knows what He is doing, but still. It's rough. If my son has it, the disorder's effects range from just a few learning difficulties all the way to severe mental retardation and possibly seizures. I am anxious to get our appointment information so I can ask lots of questions and actually look over the results that my doctor was trying to summarize.

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? I'm the oldest of five kids, and we were never allowed to leave our rooms on Christmas until my parents came to get us. Then, when they did, we had to follow them into their room without peeking at the tree. All 5 of us piled in their bed while my mom took a Christmas-morning picture of our anticipation faces, then we were free to race to our stockings. She put cinnamon rolls in the oven before retrieving us from our rooms, so I associate the smell of cinnamon rolls baking with getting presents, like a Pavlovian response, hahaha.

  • @marshmallowfarts Thank you! We have to wait for the specialist to call us to schedule an appointment, so I don't have any further info or dates yet--which is adding to my anxiety.

  • @marshmallowfarts I'm so sorry about your job! I can't imagine what it's like to be trapped in a place with a manager like that! It's awesome what you do to help people.
  • I am late checking in this week, but so thankful for this weekly thread!!

@Spartanrd4 - sorry to hear about the glucose test - hopefully your 2nd test went well and you passed!
@sarahbobby @dubcompanion I am feeling more tired as well - I'm a few weeks behind you guys but I feel like I have one super energetic day then one where I can barely drag myself out of bed!
@EnglishTeacherMama - I'm sorry to hear you have the added stress of waiting for more info, I hope your appointment is soon and you can get the answers you need to feel more assured!
@marshmallowfarts your job certainly sounds stressful - that's awful that your manager is acting that way! Can you go above them to reach anyone to help your transfer application?

    1. How far along are you? 24+3

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? third trimester! and my next ultrasound which is right after the new year.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Feeling pretty good, but getting anxious lately. Anxious about being out on my maternity leave, my boss is basically scheduling things in the calendar for me to do right up until my due date. Yesterday he was saying how we could do a presentation the week before my due date, I had to remind him we need a back up plan, but he didn't seem to want to hear that. The problem with my job is that I have a very niche role in my company and no one really knows how to do my job. I'm trying to set my team up to handle it when I'm out, but my team is unique in that they all do jobs that are quite different than mine as well - so it should be interesting. Everyone keeps telling me that being out will shine a light on how understaffed I am, and I hope so - but I'm also just nervous about it and it keeps me up at night.

    4. GTKY: What is your fondest Christmas memory? This is the first christmas without my grandmother. I grew up in a small house with my whole crazy italian family, grandparents, uncle, my mom and my sister. My grandparents lived downstairs, but it wasn't like a separate apartment, it was just a small raised ranch house. I remember waking up on Christmas morning, smelling my grandmother's sauce and meatballs cooking (she would make homemade manicotti on christmas) and my mom would come into my sister's and my room individually and bring our stockings to us in bed. We would open our stockings with my mom, then head out and open our gifts with my mom then go downstairs and open gifts with my grandparents. My sister and I were always so excited to give gifts that we made when we were kids. Those years are my fondest, when everyone was together.
