    How big is baby? Grapefruit
Upcoming appointments this week? Had my bi-weekly cervix check this morning & have my monthly obgyn appt on Thursday. My appt this morning turned out to be good news - no changes since 2 weeks ago although some of the measurements looked well below 2 cm but the Dr reassured me all is fine since the cervix is still closed, so no modifications are needed yet.
Any new symptoms or changes? More back aches lately that's about all
Rants/Raves/Questions? Felt baby kick for the first time on Saturday morning - best feeling in the world!
GTKY: Have you definitively decided on a name?  I know we have a board-wide post on this, but I'm curious to talk about this in a smaller group too!   Is there any meaning behind it?  Are you concerned about a delivery room stand-off with your S/O?  Give us the details. We had a girls name picked out almost from the start but STILL can't decide on our boy's name although we have it narrowed down to 3: Elijah, Cody, and Chase. One of those will end up being the middle name or we'll use Easton or Cooper for the middle. DH is anti-religion and I'm a Christian, so was shocked when he suggested Elijah (still don't think he knows the meaning/Biblical importance & I'm not going to mention it) I think right now it's our top choice but we both do NOT want him to be called Eli...I'm concerned about it's popularity though because I wanted a name not in the top 30+ but we still love it and love that it flows well with our last name.
As for the delivery room - we both want him to be there in the room but don't want him to really be doing anything other than holding my hand at the top of the bed haha...as a nervous FTM I'm just going to trust the medical team & will be taking all their recommendations, and DH is on board with that.

How big is baby? An acorn squash or Gizmo
Upcoming appointments this week? none this week
Any new symptoms or changes? fortunately, no
Rants/Raves/Questions? Rants - I also have a 9 month old son. People keep telling me that I need to let them come stay the night and watch him so H and I can go out. I would love a full night's sleep, but I'm not ready to leave him yet!
Raves - I ordered a bunch of stuff from JC Penney and forgot to change the shipping address. I haven't lived at this address in 2 years, but I sent jeans to my oldest son there last year. Well, $150 of stuff got delivered there yesterday and the new homeowner texted me this morning (how she got my number, IDK) to let me know my package is there!

We have definitely decided on a name. Her name is Norah Elizabeth Marie. I sing Norah Jones to my 9 month old to put him to sleep, Elizabeth is H's mom's middle name, Marie is one of my middle name's as well as my mom's middle name.

  • How far along are you?  27 weeks – whoa!

    How big is baby?  Lettuce

Upcoming appointments this week? I have an appointment today, but I’m kind of dreading it.  Of course I’m excited to hear baby’s heart beat and have confirmation that everything is all good, but I’m feeling really frustrated with my practice.  At 27 weeks, I have only seen my actual OB ONCE and for about 10 minutes overall.  I am always seen by the nurse practitioner.  I’m told there are also 2-3 other OBs who could potentially deliver me, depending on who is on call when I’m ready to go.  I’m about 90% sure that if I don’t get some clarification and understanding as to WHY THE EFF I haven’t seen the actual doctor yet throughout this pregnancy, I’ll be switching practices after today.  I love the nurse practitioner and as a general obgyny appointment, I wouldn’t care, but it seems insane that not only have I not met the other doctors, but I don’t even know my own this far along.  Am I crazy?  This is the exact opposite from my last pregnancy/OB.

Any new symptoms or changes? Nothing particularly new besides the constant urge to pee, especially when walking, and serious cramps during my commute to and from work.  Sleeping is challenging, but I love feeling him move all the time.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Nothing that comes to mind.

GTKY: Have you definitively decided on a name?  I know we have a board-wide post on this, but I'm curious to talk about this in a smaller group too!   Is there any meaning behind it?  Are you concerned about a delivery room stand-off with your S/O?  Give us the details.  I think we’re about 90% set on Evander James.  Evander is the name we said we’d use if DD was a boy and it just sort of stuck around until now, and James is DH’s dad’s name.  He’d love if we could use it as a first name, but I’m pretty strongly opposed.  We’re still keeping our options open incase we find something else we love before DS is born, but I’d guess that we’ll end up with Evander. J

Upcoming appointments this week? follow-up ultrasound tomorrow
Any new symptoms or changes? I found out at my checkup last week they suspect I have placenta previa (posted about this in the previa post). From what my doc said, the placenta is just too close to the cervix, but wasn't actually covering it. The tech didn't get a measurement at the AS so we go back tomorrow to get that measurement. Hopefully we get good news! Also have to go and get a blood test and the Rhogam shot since I was spotting a little last week (back when I didn't know I might have placenta previa). I hate the Rhogam shot. It is a painful lil sucker and apparently I have three more in my immediate future.  :|
Rants/Raves/Questions? My DH is a great man. Let me start with that. He and his ex-wife had suffered miscarriages during their marriage and then we had an ectopic pregnancy a year ago. So understandably, he is scared. Given that, I feel like he doesn't want anything to do with the baby that's tangible i.e. figuring out what we need, prepping the baby's room, etc. He'll talk about the name and the birth in abstract forms, but he always changes the subject or shoots me down when I try to get him involved in the other stuff. Any suggestions? Just wait it out? I have heard that for a lot of men, it doesn't get real until the baby is born. I'm wondering if that is part of it.
GTKY: Have you definitively decided on a name?  I know we have a board-wide post on this, but I'm curious to talk about this in a smaller group too!   Is there any meaning behind it?  Are you concerned about a delivery room stand-off with your S/O?  Give us the details. We are leaning towards Mason Timothy. Mason is pretty common but it is one of very few names we both agree on. My husband and other men in his family are/were freemasons so I like that it is a nod to that without it being blatant. Timothy is after both my oldest brother who has a disability and will never have kids and my FIL. Kinda nice to have a name that comes from both sides of the family! That being said, we are still open to other names in case another one feels more right.

As far as the delivery room, if my DH had his way, I would go in the woods and give birth next to a log or something like that. He is anti-doctors and hospitals (feels it is all just a money-making scheme) and he watched The Business of Being Born and bought everything that documentary showed. That being said, I am 36 and will probably have this baby when I am 37 (baby due at end of March, my birthday is March 10) and I don't want to take the risks seeing as I am already AMA. And if we do in fact have placenta previa, then all ideals go out the window because if it doesn't resolve itself by week 36-ish, we do an early c-section no matter what since it isn't safe to vaginally deliver a baby in those conditions. So, basically, he has made his opinions known and I have told him that I hear him but since it is my body that has to go through it, I ultimately get the final say. And really, the most important thing is to get out little guy here safe and healthy, no matter the method of birth.

Upcoming appointments this week? I have a check up on Thursday
Any new symptoms or changes? not really, but feeling lots of movement which I love. It makes me wonder, how often does baby sleep? Does she sleep through the night (I don't recall her waking me up at any point as of yet)
Rants/Raves/Questions? My sister asked for a list of shower guests so I'm excited that's in progress. I need to work on my registry though. DH and I went about 2 weeks ago to officially register and we picked a lot out but I feel like I still need to tweek it a little, some stuff seems all over the place.
GTKY: Have you definitively decided on a name?  I know we have a board-wide post on this, but I'm curious to talk about this in a smaller group too!   Is there any meaning behind it?  Are you concerned about a delivery room stand-off with your S/O?  Give us the details. We have pretty much decided on Emily Grace, but we haven't yet made it official. We almost shook on it but I chickened out, I think naming the baby is such a big decision it freaks me out! As for the delivery room, as a first time mom and DH being a first time dad neither of us have any idea what to expect, but we both really like and trust my doctor and will just go with the flow the best we can. We are both open to either vaginal birth or a c-section, basically whatever they recommend I'll do! The only concern I have with DH is the waiting while I'm in labor. He's the type that cannot sit still and has to be doing something at all times, and I fear he's going to be restless and therefore drive me nuts!

  • @spartanrd4 I agree that this pregnancy is going by so quick, I think December is just gonna fly! Makes me wonder if January and February will drag :p

@hippiemama I'm sorry you're frustrated with your practice. That doesn't seem right to me that you've barely seen your doctor at this point. Have you requested to see a doctor and they keep giving you the NP?

@thisisallyson Good luck with your measurements tomorrow. T&P to you!

We've decided to name her Ruthie J.  My grandma's mom was Ruth and she passed away in Sept.  I had the name picked out before she was bad.  Then the middle name, the letter J, for my husband's grandpa Jack who passed away years ago.
My husband will be great in the delivery room.  He was amazing with our first daughter.  He is a ICU nurse and he even stopped my iv once when he thought there was too much air in it.  :#
  • @gracie4400 once you're in active labor, there shouldn't be any waiting around. He should be there next to you helping you push, reminding you to breathe, and holding your hand.

    Any new symptoms or changes?
My heartburn has been more active and I find myself getting less comfortable when staying in one position too long. Sleep has gotten much better and I find myself sleeping through the night more consistently. However, I am still struggling to sleep in like past 7am. I get up everyday for work around 6:15 and on the weekends the body just doesn't want to let me sleep past 7am. I keep telling it that sleep is going to be gone very soon. I think I'd rather be up and about instead of just being in bed. Still discharge and growing belly.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rave - We got our car seat! Thank you Americans for Black Friday - 30% off my Car seat. Not bad!
Another Rave - Loving this course I am in with Intermediate studies for Education. I am hoping it will give me the edge to get back into teaching and on a school board.

Rant - Because I know work is coming to an end in a couple of months, my motivation is starting to go down hill. I could care less about my job and cannot wait to be with my baby girl.  I literally tell myself .. only ___ many days. I also hope that after Mat Leave, I am able to get back into the teaching of children world and stay away from corporate world forever. I am so not built for it. Some people are amazing for it, but I am just not.

I had 6 girls names that I loved. My husband liked one. lol Least he did like one. We are pretty serious about the name Kate Mary O(last name). Kate doesn't have much connections with us, but Mary does. Mary is my husbands Aunt who passed away a couple of years ago. He has such fond memories with her and thinks it would be nice to honour her. I think it works! I do not think any stand off in the delivery room will happen, unless its a boy haha.

  • @MsTurney I feel ya with the loss of motivation at work! All I want to focus on is baby stuff. Work will still be work when I get back from maternity leave.

  • Placenta previa confirmed at the ultrasound today. It is only covering the cervix by about 1 cm and the MFM is hopeful it will move as the pregnancy progresses. Next ultrasound is somewhere between 28-32 weeks. Until then, sorry DH, the Snoogle is staying between us.  :D
  • @thisisallyson fingers crossed that it moves before your next appointment!  and also ... you get points in my book for even teasing about feeling guilty about the snoogle. sleep > sex ... at least right now. haha
  • @hippiemama I so agree! Is it bad that I look forward to the nights DH is at work because it means I get the bed to myself? It is the best sleep those nights!
  • @MrsBinPA not a tuesday mama but Evangeline is one of my favorite names! DH vetoed but I think your choice is the winner of the two.  :)
  • @MrsBinPA my friend named her daughter Eva....what does DH think of that? Another friend named her baby Alexis Rose. More ideas for you!
  • @Spartanrd4 I told DH we can nickname Evangeline Ev-Ah (though if I have my way it would be Evan or Evie).

My name is Alexis so that one is out.  It's is beautiful though ;)
