Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie Intro Week of 11/28

edited November 2016 in Trying to Get Pregnant

Same as someone did last week, I am new and did not see a Newbie thread so I started one. Hopefully I didn't just miss it and mess things up here.

Ages (you and SO):
SO is 42. I am 40.

*TW*

How many months have you been TTC?
11 months. I had a MC this June at 8 weeks and opted for D&C. Still trying.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

  • HIO during fertile window & beyond
  • Tracking with Clue app
  • OPT
  • This month I tried a thing I saw online called "baking soda finger" which means I'm at the point where I'm willing to try things I find on the internet (which I swore I wouldn't do).
  • I think next month I will start tracking BBT.
  • If nothing happens next month, we're going to go ahead with HRT. But I'll only have one shot at that because I'm still paying off the bills from my MC diagnosis & D&C, and HRT is out of our very tight budget. (We're asking family to chip in, in lieu of holiday gifts this year - SO's parents have 4 granddaughters and are rooting hard for a grandson someday.)
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) SO & I met when I was in college, but didn't reconnect or start dating until our mid-30s. He has full custody of his 13 yo daughter. She has informed us that people our age should not be having babies because "it's gross," but she has half-siblings from her mom, is great with babies and little kids, and likes to talk about how much fun it would be to have another little sibling even though, "you will probably die soon! You're just so old!"  We also have three female cats (two black, one blue-cream) who all hate each other.

I just had another negative HPT yesterday after really shooting for gold this month and I'm feeling pretty dispirited right now. I also feel guilty for wanting to conceive at all. Kinda emotional lately. Most of my friends' kids are in high school or college. I don't know anyone in person who is in my situation.

Welcome! Please read the newbie thread pinned to the top of the board. I would definitely recommend tracking your BBT (most ladies here use the fertility friend app) over sticking random things into your vagina.

ETA I'm very sorry about you MC

I should clarify: I read the newbie posts, what I meant to say was that I didn't see a newbie intro thread yet for this week so I started one, hoping I hadn't just missed one that was already there and duplicating it. :)  Sorry about that!

@Fela Welcome!  As @ChefRamsay mentioned, if you haven't already, I would suggest reading the newbie guide pinned at the top of the board as well as Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  In addition, most of the ladies here use and recommend Fertility Friend as a tracking app.  Finally, if you are going to stick things in your vagina, I would recommend using Preseed instead.

And one more thing, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I would suggest add TW (trigger warning) in front of it so that ladies can be warned it is coming.

Welcome to the community, I hope you find some great support and that your stay here is short!

ETA I think many of us liked that a newbie started the intro thread last week and were waiting to see if it would happen again this week.

Welcome! Yes, you can edit your post. When you click on this thread and look at your original post, it's a little astrick thing next to the star.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I definitely third or fourth using Fertility Friend app. It is the only app that changes your ovulation date based on your signs, unlike Clue that just assumes you'll be the same every month. Many ladies use both now because they had info invested in another app.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  I have a daughter who will be two in a couple months.

I'm real shy so I've lurked for a long time but finally made an account last week.  It took 13 months to conceive my first so I had no expectations that it would happen fast this time.  It's still hard the second time around and the start of 8 months was hard.

  • Ages (you and SO):  I'm 26, SO is 29

How many months have you been TTC?  4

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?  OPK, Tracking

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) No kids yet, this is our first time trying  We have 2 wonderful dogs who are very excited to become big sisters! I work in healthcare, and my SO works in the auto industry. We love camping, hunting, family vacations and snuggling up to watch a good movie

I've been lurking a LOT on this site trying to find answers & to find out more from others what their experiences are like.

  • I'm sorry. There's no asterisk next to the star no matter where I access the thread. Maybe I'm too new to be able to edit something? Ugh.
  • @Fela Are you on mobile or desktop?

  • Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a bit now as well, and I've already learned so much! I still get thrown off a bit by some of the abbreviations and rules, but I'm sure I'll catch on the more involved I get.

Ages (you and SO):  We're both 30.

How many months have you been TTC?  2 months, just entered my 3rd cycle.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?  BD as much as possible, BBT, Fertility Friend, PNVs, just bought Preseed to try. Cutting coffee. I'm reading 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility,' 'Beautiful Babies: Nutrition for Fertility,' and 'It Starts with the Egg.'  I like my research! Ha!

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  Met my DH in college, but we didn't start dating until a few years later. We just got married, but we've been together 6 years, and bought our house last year. I'm the executive producer for a local TV station and he's a photographer at the same station. Unfortunately, we work completely opposite schedules, so it's a challenge to spend quality time together and we both have crazy sleep schedules, so we realized that can make this process extra difficult. We have a chiweenie, who we adore, and we hope she's ready to have a tiny human in the house soon!

  • *TW loss mentioned (also mentioned in siggy)*

I am new to this board but not to the bump. I started out on a BMB but have spent almost all my time on the TTCAL board. I have been lurking this board for about a month and then I realized that if I ever get a BFP that I will likely see many TTGP grads on the BMB. So I thought I would get to know you now so that there were more familiar "faces" when we get to the other side.

Ages (you and SO):  I am 31 and DH is 30.

How many months have you been TTC?  This Saturday marks 1 year. In the course or this year I have had 2 mc. First was a blighted ovum in January, second was a MMC in June. And am currently on cycle 3 ttc following D&C.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • HIO during fertile window
    • Temping using FF
    • Checking cm and cp
    • May start opks again this cycle, not sure yet... might order some wondfos.
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) No kids as of yet, just my fur baby (black cat named Prada). I am a Registered Nurse and have worked on a med/surg floor, ICU, and am now enjoying public health. DH works at an indoor sports facility as the facility coordinator, does lessons and coaches HS football. As for hobbies I have recently picked up crocheting and I really like to paint canvas (and not well, lol).

  • I was on desktop.  I got it figured out... there is actually no asterisk at all on my screen, but I started randomly clicking around next to the star and "Edit" popped up, even without an asterisk. So I guess it's a stealth edit button for me!

  • Ages (you and SO):
    SO is 35 and I am 26.

How many months have you been TTC?
starting our 6th cycle since off BC in June. First cycle started at the end of July. Have had regular cycles since.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • Apps such as FF, Ovia, glow
    • OPKs - maybe taking this month off and just timing intercourse since my cycles have regulated and I am a CD 18 ovulator
    • Trying temping this month just to see if I see any odd patterns after reading TCOYF
    • Timed intercourse
    • Pressed &a fertile cm this Month
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) hubby and I have been married for two years, we have two fur babies. He's a fireman and I'm a teacher. I have been tracking and trying since I got off BC in mid June. Cycles are regular and predictable but we still haven't had any success and are starting month 6. Any advice or success stories would be much appreciated!! Excited to find this since I keep this pretty much to myself and my husband.
  • @Paisley51615 welcome! I'm new as well. happy to see someone my age who is on these boards as well (I also have 2 fur babies haha) I got off my BC around the same time (one month later), if you don't mind me asking, what we you using?

@JenRuss for birth control? I always used the pill. For the last year it was seasonique. Wbu??
  • @Paisley51615  I used Mirena for 4 years, and then decided to take it out and switch to the Nuva Ring for about a year. July we decided to start trying. I thought stopping the IUD a while before and switching to a different type of BC would be helpful in getting back on track, and I think it did help.

  • @JenRuss that was a good idea. I got off mine right when we decided to really try but I guess maybe I should have stopped it before. Be now 5 months in I'm getting frustrated. My cycles regulated really right away so I'm not sure what the issue is.

How many months have you been TTC?
    2 very long cycles

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • Opks!  Still haven't had a positive
    • one :(
Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.) we have a dog that is our first child
    Nice to meet you all
  • @TalkPretty2Me Welcome to the community!  Are the opks the only way that you are currently confirming ovulation?  If so, I would suggest downloading the Fertility Friend app (if you haven't already) and buying the Mabis BBT and temping as there are some ladies who ovulate but just have trouble turning an OPK
