Winter Wear for the Car

There was a thread the other day with a discussion on what LO's should wear in the car - I can't find it though.

I was looking for something fleece so she could still wear it in the car seat without it being too bulky and not safe. We live in WI and she has stuff for playing in the snow but nothing that would really work for in and out of the car on school days or while running errands. I just found this so I thought I'd pass it on!!!

Re: Winter Wear for the Car

  • I made the post! Lol I'm still trying to figure it out. It's getting cold here! Need to find something soon. That's cute but my LO does terrible in hoods. Weird I know. He pulls at them and they bunch upon his neck! My DH is the same way. haha

  • If you're handy, or know someone who is, you could probably cut the hood off. I didn't see anything that didn't have a hood, luckily my LO doesn't seem to care about them.

  • I bought a Cherokee brand jacket at Target last spring that is a 2 in one. I'm
planning to keep them separated in the car so she can wear the inner layer strapped into her seat and I can put the outer layer on backwards after she's strapped in.  I want to try her in the seat with both layers though before winter comes to see if she would be ok since it's doesn't have any poofiness at all.
  • LL Bean has a nice looking Fleece and would probably be warmer than the Columbia.

  • We live in northern Iowa so we get super cold too! All my momma friends here do a Columbia fleece jacket and then a blanket in the car, hats, and mittens. If it's below zero then they take the blanket out of the car with them to and from. So not looking forward to winter!!!
  • We got our LO a Columbia fleece jacket (no hood) at Kohls (online) that he wore last winter in the car, and got the same one in a bigger size for this year, along with a fleece hat and a fleece pair of mittens.

The coat is thin enough to not be a safety hazard but still keeps him warm for the short car rides :) We bought an actual winter coat and snow pants for playing in the snow.
  • I am getting an LL BEAN coat for him. I am going to do a 2T. We are near Boston so winters can be nasty. We were lucky with a mild one last year plus he was still in a carrier so it was blanket and a hat. I didn't get him a coat. I am making him some hats and not sure about mittens yet. His will be the blue owl just haven't finished it. And I made the blue and gray one too.

That's what we ended up going with. A no hood Columbia fleece. He can wear it in the car seat and not be a safety hazard. I have mittens and a hat I can stick on him.

  • I saw this online a week or so ago. You all should look it up. It is crash tested and everything. It seems very nice. I'd like to get my daughter one but as u can see they are kind of expensive, but probably worth it.
