Question about ovulation after stopping the pill.

Hi everyone! first post here!

I'm planning to stop my birth control pill in January. I want to wait to TTC until I'm off the pill for 3 months. I want to give myself time to accurately track my natural period and ovulation.

My question is: do I track my final pill-period or do I wait until my 1st non-pill period to start tracking?

Thanks.

So we track that first period even though it's arriving from the stop of the pill?

    Thanks :)

What do you mean by "tracking"? Here tracking means temping and possibly checking cm or cp and taking OPKs. When you get your period after stopping the pill, count that as CD1. Even though the period is pill-induced, you'll start releasing your own hormones to gear up to ovulate, and that is what you should track. Be aware it can take some women months to regulate their cycle after the pill, others regulate right away.

    Thanks @eggplantface
I meant tracking in the sense of recording the date. ah, yes pill INDUCED, that's the word I was looking for!

it would do you more good to start taking your BBT (basal body temp) each morning starting from the first day of bleeding after your last active pill.
Simply recording the date you start bleeding will be a waste of time.
the general rule of thumb is that ovulation occurs 2 weeks (9-14 days on average) before the first day of your period. As your cycle will take time to regulate this could change by as much as 5 days each cycle you are off the pill not to mention the fact that your cycle legths will likely not be the same for a few months (I didn't get my period back for 8 months after stopping the pill) writing down CD1 will only cause you to worry or get your hopes up unnecessarily.

If all you want to do is track how long your cycles are, then sure, go ahead.
If you're looking to figure out when you'll ovulate and when your FW is; then not only track your period days, but also track your BBT, OPKs, and/or CM. Tracking when you have your period will only give you a guestimate of when you'll end up ovulating. And for the first number of months off the pill, you may not ovulate at the same time. Some women keep a regular cycle like clock-work after getting off the pill, and others will have cycles of different lengths.

I continue to track my cycles while I'm on BC. There's nothing wrong with it, but if you're looking to track your ovulation, then it's not enough.

I hate to sound stupid but the CM really confuses me. I really don't get how to determine which category applies. I don't feel I'm a good judge of the mucus! am I alone in this? anyone have tips?

I should add, I've read all the cm descriptions but I just don't see the difference strongly enough in real life

If you're currently taking BCP your CM won't really change throughout your cycle.

The newbie guide has the title of a book to read. It discusses and shows pics of CM.

It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
