Anterior placentas?

Hi all!  I am 22w2d with baby girl Ellie Grace.  Was wondering if any of you have anterior placentas and if/when you can feel your baby move.  I feel her sometimes but mostly at night when lying down.  I felt her this morning after drinking some cold water, and have been able to feel her from the outside maybe 2 or 3 times. I sometimes feel like she is active when my GI tract is active, like if I just ate, and maybe the noises inside wake her up!  My doctor said expect more movement around 24 weeks and maybe my husband can feel her more entering the 3rd trimester.  It's hard when I want to know that everything is ok and most of the day (when I am most active) I can't feel her for sure.  I had a bit of a scare right before Thanksgiving with a sudden bout of discharge I was afraid might be amniotic fluid.  I talked to my friend who is a nurse midwife, I monitored and it didn't happen again and I had no cramps, etc. and I have felt her move since, but am going to call the doctor Monday to schedule an ultrasound just to make sure everything is ok.  Can anyone speak to their own experience with anterior placenta or the discharge thing?

Re: Anterior placentas?

  • I have a posterior placenta but movement sounds similar. Usually when I lay down at night. With my son, I went to the hospital at 17 weeks due to a large gush of fluid. Turned out that I had pissed myself :)

  • I have an anterior placenta and really wasn't feeling much movement until the past week or two, so 22-23 weeks. I definitely feel him more when laying down.

  • I have an anterior placenta and didn't feel her for sure until 20 weeks. But my husband was able to feel by 23. It took a long time to feel her but now she's very active. I'm starting to learn what makes her move and if I want to feel her I can usually make her move by drinking water, eating, going to the bathroom, or even just sitting or laying down for a minute. I don't have experience with the discharge thing but I've seen a lot of people say its usually just pee.

  • Anterior placenta over here too but I've been feeling movement for a few weeks but very soft movements. Nothing major. I'm 24 weeks and movement is still very sporadic (midwife said this is normal and gets more frequent after 26weeks) and mostly only feel it down low or towards the bladder. Nothing really from the outside yet. I feel way less than with my DD.
  • here here!!! I didn't really feel them move till about 2-3 weeks go (25 weeks today) it was more flutters and unsure... but I also am carrying twins so space is kind of premium property in there

  • Anterior placenta here too. I started noticing the 'flutters' as my OB terms it at 19 weeks and a couple of firm nudges on the outside the week after. My husband didn't really feel her move until last week (I'm 23 weeks right now). I can only feel her very clearly very low and its very sporadic. Some days I feel her a lot and some not at all.
  • Anterior placenta here too! I started feeling consistent movement very low around 18/19 weeks, my DH felt outside movement around 21/22 weeks, and now I'm seeing outside movement for the past week and a half (25 weeks). I had a anterior placenta with my DS too, so I don't really have much to base it off of. You'll start feeling more as the space is taken up in there :)

I have an anterior placenta and started feeling real movement around 22 weeks...I'm 25 now and have been feeling her pretty regularly from the outside and inside. DH has too. I know how hard it was to wait but you will feel it more eventually!
  • I think that 22 weeks is still minor movements for most ftms even if they do not gave an anterior placenta. By the time you hit 28 weeks you will be able to do kick counts, where you keep track of his many kicks during your baby's most active hour, but until then movements aren't really necessarily regular. If you ever get really concerned eating sweet and sitting down for a bit might inspire your lo to move.

  • I have an anterior placenta this time around, and I started feeling movement at about 21 weeks, but it was very sporadic. It was like he had to be kicking just right to be able to feel it. It has been very different from my first pregnancy, when I had an posterior placenta. With my DD, I started feeling flutters at 18ish weeks, but this time I didn't feel anything until it was more pronounced kicks. Also, with my first, she I felt her movements much consistently,  and I could get her moving by rubbing or tapping my belly much more easily. This time, when he gets kicking I try to interact/tap back, and it doesn't keep him moving the way it did with DD. We have been trying to get him moving so DD can feel, which was easy last time, but has proved impossible this time. The one consistent factor, is both times, baby is the most active after I have my latest craving, Popsicles. lol.
  • Anterior placenta here too (or at least was at the 20 week, the placenta apparently moves throughout pregnancy). I feel the baby more in certain spots than others, so lower left I get kicked constantly and HARD but in the center of my belly it's a whole lot lighter and less noticeable. It's all ramped up over the last few weeks, and I only started feeling anything around 18 weeks or so. Don't worry, it'll start very soon!

I also have a *lot* of discharge, I thought it was amnionic fluid and had my doctor check. Turns out it's this fun thing called leukorrhea. My Dr told me a simple way to check—by laying down on your side for about a half hour then standing up. If you get a gush of liquid go to the hospital asap. But definitely call your doctor tomorrow regardless if you think you might possibly be leaking.

  • Count me in for the anterior placenta!  I didn't feel my son move until maybe 19-20 weeks... I feel him now, I'm 23 weeks. my husband and others can feel him from the outside now! I can also see him kick from the outside! I was told between 20 and 22 weeks for movement... I was told soon I would be telling him to stop moving so I can sleep lol
