  • 1) good we have tons of 1:1 time as dh finishes his semester. DS is starting to be very sweet with me. Like it's clear he loves me so much and I'm eating it up.
    2) yea we packed a white button down and trousers for hospital pics
    3) his naps are still all over the place. It's so frustrating and I don't feel he's getting enough sleep. Also he's so small and I'm afraid he's not growing enough. Both things we are trying so hard with (loading him up with good nutrition and trying everything with naps)
    4) nope
    5) Brussel sprouts!!!

  • How've you been doing balancing a toddler(s) and your pregnancy this past week? Good overall, although as the weather gets bad I am getting more frustrated with lack of home activities. Maybe its just my hormones that made this a much bigger deal than it is, but DH has insisted that all tiny toys be in a toybox in DS's room so they don't get lost in the living room, and we have lots of toys with parts, and being in DS's room is so isolating! Being unable to go out due to inclimate weather was an eye opener to me that I need to find new indoor activities or the next few months will be rough.

Do you have a special outfit for your toddler to wear for pics with new baby (babies)? No...I'll probably just make sure his face doesn't haev food on it, lol.

Rants/Raves/Questions: What do people do with their 1.5 year olds inside? Our fridge isn't magnetic (sidenote, wtf fridge?), so magnet play is out. He eats crayons (maybe I should get the egg ones?), and I really don't want to default to constant TV or be locked in teh back room all day with his toys. We have books out here but he will only sit still so long.

    Anything you want to add/share?:

Bonus question: What's your favorite Thanksgiving food
Green bean casserole! No one makes it for anytime accept THanksgiving and Christmas. It's my jam.
  • @smashjam - in the exact same place with my toddler as you. I did buy hardcore outside gear but that buys me 30-45 mins max. I'm nervous about the winter with a crazy boy toddler. He's only 19 months so he still has yet to develop an attention span (and be convinced that crayons are not food). Coloring buys about 5-10 minutes.
Play dough about 5 minutes. Puzzles about 3. Tractor can get a good 20. Sesame Street has actually started to get me 15 which feels like a huge thing... It's HARD to live life in those intervals. I also welcome suggestions

  • I was  totally in your shoes last year - I stayed home with DS from Nov-Sept this year when he was 20mths-2.5yrs old.... winter was hard!! Part of the country/weather factors in but toddlers are  toddlers. I looked into things in the area and tried to have an outing 3-4 days, in the morning. That forced us to get up and out, got some initial energy out and then by the time we got home we'd done something. 2 days/week we went to story time at 2 diff libraries; 1 day/week was a playdate with another mom, alternating houses; 1 day/week we went to open gym time. Other than that I tried to have a "schedule" of sorts of activities - reading books from the library, art/craft time, free/independent play time, outside play time, helping me make dinner/kitchen play time, etc. Some days were better than others. Hang in there, solidarity sisters!!

  • How've you been doing balancing a toddler(s) and your pregnancy this past week?

Ok. Been super sore and exhausted so I really don't have the energy for much. I feel so badly about it. I just deactivated my Facebook because I was so engaged there and not engaged enough with DD1 or in prepping for the new arrival. I'm hoping the break allows me some time to soak in more 1:1 with her while we have it.

Do you have a special outfit for your toddler to wear for pics with new baby (babies)?

Oy. I haven't even thought of about pictures.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:

We recently traded bedrooms with DD1 for various reasons but it gave us (read: my husband) an excuse to repaint both bedrooms because they were god awful. Her new room looks so great and we decided to use this transition to also move her into a toddler bed. We had a few rough nights, but overall it's going well! The only downside is that she is up and out of bed much earlier in the mornings and sometimes naps are cut a little shorter. Womp womp.

    Anything you want to add/share?:

Anyone still not feel as connected with this pregnancy as they did with their first? Both my H and I feel like we've totally neglected to connect or bond with this baby. There's less excitement involved overall..  i know we love her just as much, it just all feels so different this time around.

Bonus question: What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Mashed potatoes for dinner food and pumpkin pie with an unhealthy amount of whipped cream for dessert.
  • @Christinaruth74 - BIG time. I feel like our schedules combined with tag teaming toddler care and the fact dh doesn't do appointments with me this time because we don't want to bring DS - plus we were constantly reading and discussing things last time...

we we just had our doula appointments and it was amazing to set aside time together for only the purpose of the pregnancy with such an amazing and warm resource. Also because I feel like I haven't been mentally invested in preparing as much as I'd like I'm feeling so glad for the doula. Perhaps I'm expecting too much. Anyways.... yes!!!

  • @slartybartfast that sounds really refreshing that you were able to have that time. This pregnancy feels more like I'm waiting for a contract to lapse or something. There's no warm and fuzzies, it mostly feels strictly business. I'm growing this human because we wanted another human, plain and simple. I know H and I need some time alone before she comes to really refocus.  Adding 1 kid to our marriage made for some unsuspected blows and serious changes in our overall dynamic. Waiting for #2 to arrive feels like we are just bracing for impact.

But people do this all the time and love it, right??
  • How've you been doing balancing a toddler(s) and your pregnancy this past week?
Still feel like I'm doing pretty well!! I continue to try to focus on DS the last days I have with him as my only baby, trying not to worry too much about the inevitable changes that'll come with a new baby....

Do you have a special outfit for your toddler to wear for pics with new baby (babies)?
I don't yet but I plan to.... need to get on that

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Nothing really, just trying to prep

  • How've you been doing balancing a toddler(s) and your pregnancy this past week?
Not so good. I fell this last Saturday and landed on my right knee really hard so it's been useless, bruised, and scabbed all week. Plus my little guy has decided to be extra ornery lately with the whole laughing and smiling while doing no no's.

Do you have a special outfit for your toddler to wear for pics with new baby (babies)?
Nothing in particular, he'll probably wear one of his button ups and a nice pair of pants and shoes.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
My belly is almost down between my legs, getting around and chasing my toddler has been so challenging. I can't wait to evict!

    Anything you want to add/share?:
I'm so nervous to go to the hospital when it's time, I don't want to be away from my first born that long.

Bonus question: What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Mashed potatoes and deviled eggs! Yum!
  • @SmashJam I don't know if your toddler likes balls but my son loves to kick them and throw them all over the place. For Christmas he's getting a ball pit and 200-500 plastic balls to go in it from Nana (that's staying at her house). But balls usually buy about 20+ minutes and sometimes longer if I get down on the floor/kick/toss/etc and play with him. Also I'm on the same page with TV but a half hour of Mickey Mouse while you load up on coffee first thing is the best thing ever.
