Very random- we have been working on potty training DS who is almost 2.5. Doing decently well with urine but would not poop on the potty for the life of him. Yesterday 4 year old DD got him to poop on the potty and got him to get dressed without a fuss. Can she just take over parenting for him, because she is winning lately
I'm going to give my hosts a bunch of chocolate and a flower bouquet each at Thanksgiving dinner Thursday. I know bouquets are a controversial gift but they're both known to enjoy them. May also add wine.
Are bouquets controversial in general or just as a gift for shower hostesses? I've never heard of that, and usually give my girlfriends flowers for most occasions along with wine or something (hostess gifts, etc). Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something on the etiquette rules....

@ohstars@PerraSucia controversial may not be quite the right word. I hear a lot of people say things like "I'd never want you to spend that much money on something that will just die!" but my MIL is a flower nut and my mom loves them too. Personally I love getting bouquets, even though they don't last forever, but they seem to be falling out of favor in my circle.
I don't think they are controversial. I think they are a little frowned upon if you bring them as a hostess gift to a dinner party or something like that because then the host has to find a vase to put them in and display them while she is already a little busy hosting... and she probably already has flowers/centerpieces for the table for the occasion. I think this is a super picky attitude though, and most people would still appreciate the flowers.
I can see how spiders in the shower can be awful. Like a weird version of Psycho and you're trapped.
I just hate when I'm driving and one dives down like a ninja, dangling in front of my face. Like, that's so rude because 1) why are you in my face and 2) I'm driving and the heart attack you're giving me is not conducive to safe driving.

That's why I usually do potted plants. If you want to cut them off and put them in a vase you can or if you want to leave them in the pot that works, or you can plant them outside if you wish. I also try to make sure the pot is cute too so you can re-purpose it for something if the plant dies or you decide to do something else with it.

Spiders are bad, but those centipede bugs with hundreds of legs are the ones that freak me out the most. They tend to be in our bathrooms. :::shudder :::

I love a good flower bouquet & my husband often brings me flowers as he knows how much i love having fresh flowers in the house but i also buy my own when doing the grocery shopping. I get that yes they die eventualy but theyre so pretty and smell nice and just brighten up the place
@MissMerciBeaucoup we just got a gift card to a fancy shmancy restaurant off of OpenTable for my Baby Shower host and her boyfriend to enjoy a date night out, and considered what one appetizer, two dinners, and approx. 4 drinks would cost.
Happy Thanksgiving!!! Us ohio ladies get a little bit warmer of a day than it has been. Woo Hoo!!
Everyone getting to eat food from a good cook, think of me! The host today is a terrible cook so although the food sounds good, it will not be all that great.
DH and I went out to dinner last night, and were discussing how it seems like everyone is trying to skip thanksgiving more and more every year on the way. We are both team wait until after thanksgiving to start Christmas.
We walk in and it looks like santa threw up all over the restaurant, and we legitimately got seated inside their giant indoor Christmas tree. A picture, lest you think I'm exaggerating:
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I can't wait to eat all the food! Currently watching the start of the Macy's Parade and it's bringing me back to my college days when I was in the parade with my alma mater's marching band
Gobble gobble! Happy Thanksgiving, all! I've been up watching Netflix with my toddler since 6, but I'm thankful I was only put in charge of desserts today. And I'm thankful that Costco makes good desserts.
I've been up since 7:40... I told my husband I wanted to leave no later than 11:15 (it's currently 9:45 here) and I'm still in my jammies, sitting at our kitchen table catching up on the last few weeks on here that I was absent. Lol
Happy Thanksgiving! I was in charge of cranberry stuff today so I have gone through 5 bags of cranberries in the last 2 days. Cranberry sauce, cranberry fluff, and cranberry jalapeño dip are packed up and we are on our way. Bring on the food!
@scottipino i have never heard of cranberry fluff or cranberry jalapeño dip. but i am thoroughly intrigued by the cranberry jalapeño dip. those are two of my fave ingredients. i can't imagine them combined together.

This summer, I bought a shirt specifically for the holidays. I was sooo excited all day thinking how cute I looked. Then I saw myself leaning over washing my hands in my grandmas full length mirror and it totally ruined my vibe...
So today, a student TRIED to be very sweet and pay me a compliment. But it didn't quite come out right.
"Ms PoetryandOceans, can I ask you a question about pregnancy?"
"Suuuuure" (wondering where this is going.)
"Do women who get pregnant usually put on a lot of weight?"
So I glare at him and tell him I'm going to give him an opportunity to retract or rephrase his question.
"No, no, I mean, you haven't got much bigger, except for the .... you know.... *gestures at my front*. It's just, compared to my mom.... my mom got HUGE".
So I had to explain to him why it's never a good idea to talk about pregnancy and weight.
I worry about that boy and the women in his life someday...
@kswiger06 LOL!!! Omg. #1 you don't look like the grinch #2 I love that you made that connection. You are obviously in the holiday mood. #3 Did your bump grow three sizes today? ;-)
Ummmm yeah, @kswiger06 you look cute in that top! And news flash, nobody looks cute bending over from the side. The only magazines that feature women bending over are unmentionable. Fashion magazines? Fitness magazines? Ain't nobody bending over.
@kswiger06 girl get outta here, that bump of yours is gorgeous!
I am exhausted. Retailers should not open at dinner time on Thanksgiving, and my feet should not be allowed to hurt this badly. Now to go collapse on my bed and get up early to do it all over again tomorrow. My mantra this week is "I love my job... I love my job..."
@MrsLittleMac preach woman! Worked suuuuuucked last night and I'll be back at it in a couple hours! I used to think nothing was worse than going to work when you're ready for a turkey coma. I was wrong... going to work when you're ready to slip into a turkey coma and pregnant is much worse!
I hope everyone in the US had a great Thanksgiving yesterday! (and I hope non-US people had a great Thursday). I pretty much stayed off my phone and the internet for the day which was actually really nice to just be present in the moment with family!
Aww @kswiger06 you look awesome in that shirt and not grinchy at all!
I'm tired of people telling me my bump looks so little. I don't think it looks little and as I can no longer fit in anything non-maternity it's clearly not little. Also I feel huge so telling me I'm not isn't going to make me feel any better. Here's an Aww of DH and I yesterday showing off my not small bump! The cute pup is my ILs Pomeranian Dexter who when he saw we were getting our picture taken ran over to pose and get in on the action. He's too cute and funny!
You look awesome @marriedhamstermom! I think that whether we're carrying big or small, everyone just needs to leave us alone about it. And why do these comments come from moms? Is it part of the whole pregnancy amnesia phenomenon?
So, I'm going to AW just a little here. After my shower, I went through my "baby needs" list and carefully cultivated a list of what I still needed to pick up. Placed an order to be delivered to my local baby store (saving me $60 in shipping, thanks very much), and got a call yesterday it was ready. So, like an idiot, I thought "well, *place I'm going* isn't in a mall, probably won't be too bad today"... entirely forgetting it's in a part of town WITH malls, and that Black Friday traffic is a plague that infects entire sections of a city... I just spent 2 hours running errands that should have taken me 30/40 minutes tops....
BUT I HAVE EVERYTHING*!!!! I'm resting for a bit before I unpack everything and put the last little touches in my sweet little room, but between this and 3 weeks left until I'm on leave, I'm feeling pretty good right now...
*Yes, STMs, I realize that I will probably look back at this post and laugh at how naive I am.... but I don't care.
@poetryandoceans I'm so jealous you're getting everything squared away and feeling prepared! I hit 28 weeks yesterday and was like, whoa, THIRD Tri. Then the instantaneous "Oh my gosh I only have 12 weeks left" realization/panic hit.
We are having a small shower next weekend, and then DH's family shower isn't until January. My nerves may not make it that long without at least buying a bassinet.
Am I the only one entering freak out nesting mode? I was feeling ahead with our nursery progress until suddenly last night.
