Random Question

Pumping mammas- how do you label your bottled milk in the fridge? I have been putting a small piece of tape and writing on it (Tues 8am, for example) and then taking the tape off when we use the milk.

Daycare wants the milk already in bottles, so writing on storage bags is out.

Anyone have a system that's a little better?

Re: Random Question

  • To keep track of the date, i just use a little dot sticker and put the date on it. He eats what I pump the day (or two days) before, so it never gets more than a couple of days old. I usually pump an extra bottle than what he eats at daycare, so I just freeze the extra.  I don't even worry about putting the time.

  • So, I don't label the fresh milk in the fridge anymore because I go through so much.  I just utilize a first in first out system.  For daycare I too have to prep the bottles everyday and by law have to have Tristan's name and date on the bottle.  I bought some neon, for fun, address labels and cut them down into fourths or fifths and put them on the clear lid of the bottle.  The only thing with them is that you need to remove the label before it gets wet, or else you are left with a sticky mess.  I have seen other people use masking tape.  I just like the pretty colors.  My daycare would allow me to bring in frozen milk, I think...I just haven't had to at this point.
  • I use a dry erase marker directly on my bottles for the fridge. It works great as long as the bottles are dry where you write. Sometimes it gets smudged when feeding her from the bottle, but you could also probably write on the cap or the bottom of the bottle. It wipes right off after.
