Monday Bitchfest 11/21

Let it out ladies!

Re: Monday Bitchfest 11/21

  • So the pharmacy couldn't fill DD's prescription for hypoallergenic formula because she turned 1 last week.  Now that she is 1 "she should just drink a milk alternative".  Well great... the only milk alternative we have had success with that the nutritionist is OK putting her on is almond milk and oh wait... our daycare is a nut free school.  Insurance will cover the formula when her specialist orders more robust allergy testing, but he doesn't see her until next month.   The daycare will consider an exemption for DD and she can drink almond milk in isolation, but only when we have more robust allergy testing results next month.  Le sigh... I guess we're SOL!

Which formula? Before my pharmacy used to carry our formula (Elecare), I ordered it on the formula black market (eBay), is that a possibility?
  • @Elyse1384 could you give her a vitamin D or even a multivitamin in replace just until doc appt?
  • My DD's pediatrician said that if DD doesn't like milk to let her just drink water and supplement with three servings of dairy a day. Although.... I've still been giving her formula. I hope you figure something out!
  • We have her on Nutramigen advanced (not the infant mix) .  Unfortunately this particular formula is harder to come by at our local stores and is quite expensive.  I'm going to order it online and just take the hit on the cost.  Worst case if insurance still gives us a hard time and we need a longer term solution, she'll need some supplements as @Wino0920 mentioned.
  • DD is having a particularly bad bout of teething (all 4 first year molars appear to be coming in at once, with the canines not looking to be far behind.  The poor thing was up crying in the middle of the night last night, less than 5 hours after her first dose of Tylenol, so I gave her another dose, but she still rolled around her crib for over an hour afterwards.  She has been sleeping through the night 11-12 hours for a full year at this point when she's not teething, and usually one pre-bed dose of Tylenol is enough to get her all the way through.  So this must be really bad.  As a side note, obviously I am exhausted and skipped my workout this morning to get an extra 45 minutes of sleep.  I'm going to need all of these teeth to be fully in before Christmas, or I may not survive (she did get 6 of her 8 first-year teeth within one 6 week window, so this is not out of the question).  I'm going to take the risk of losing a finger tonight and feel around in there to see what's up.  Saturday I checked and the upper molars had all 4 points through the gum, and both lowers had 2/4.  Moms with older kids, is this normal?  For the molars to take for-freaking-ever to come in?  I hate them.  At least she's totally reasonable and happy during the day.  And she's been napping fine.  She just can't deal with it overnight.  Ugh.
  • Our Att/directv auto draft was $50 higher than normal. I looked at the bill and they charged me because my "free trial" of HBO etc was up.  Normally I would say this is my fault, but  I specifically declined the free trial just because I hate calling these companies and dealing with cancelling things.  I am so annoyed. We obviously didn't even watch it this whole time because I declined it and therefore assumed we didn't have it. I just can't stand having to waste my time because someone else made a mistake.

  • @delujm0 DS had his second molars come in this summer and I was surprised by how slowly they seemed to breakthrough.  He had a much more difficult time with them than his first molars, but I definitely recall thinking "wow how have these not made more progress!".  He was very moody which is unlike him.  Sorry you're going through it!
  • @delujm0 We always found that for overnight, Advil/ibuprofen was better than Tylenol since it tends to last longer and actually helps with the teething-induced inflammation instead of just the pain. Perhaps it'll help your little one too (and good luck - we need all of the sleep we can get these days!)

My apartment was making all sorts of creaking sounds this morning and meant I couldn't go back to sleep once I woke up to pee at 5am (even though DD was kind enough to not make a sound all night). It only happens once or twice a year when it's super windy since we're pretty high up, but still rather annoying.

  • I announced I was pregnant today at work during s board meeting in front of our management team and our general manager. NOT how I wanted it to happen. We were trying to set some dates for upcoming meetings and events in June. Some of which would require me to travel to Wisconsin (8 hour drive). Last pregnancy when I got to 30 weeks, my ob made me stay within 2 hours of my hospital because I'm high risk. I was the only one not offering up ideas and dates for these meetings. I ended up getting asked why and I blurted out, "I don't know what my work schedule will be like in June but I will be taking maternity leave some time that month."

Super awkward and not how I wanted it to happen.
  • @kassyfry Sounds like such an uncomfortable situation!! At least now the cat's out of the bag, although as you said certainly not the way you would've like it to happen!

This was just such a typical Monday for me. With the holiday week, everyone just wants to get out of the office for Thanksgiving and is being super snarky. I don't have the patience nor the energy to deal with attitudes right now!!
  • Face acne .Luckily, one side right now, but I'm looking up makeup to cover it up already.

  • I got to work this morning and there was a dead mouse in my trash can. Happy Monday to me.
  • Efffing insurance won't pay for Diclegis and will only give me 8 days worth of zofran every 30 days.  I've lost 7lb in 2.5wks but that's not impressive enough for my OB to label me as HG.  She said I was only mildly dehydrated but not bad enough to give me IV fluids.  I've been on multiple drugs for nausea/vomiting every single pregnancy but my insurance has never been this stingy.

  • @jesselayne8 that sounds like me during my first pregnancy. I was on Zofran then and still threw up every day.  Ended up losing 8lbs in my first tri.  This time around:   Have you tried unisom and b6? My insurance wouldn't cover the dicelgis either (assholes!!). That's when my dr told me to try the unisom and b6. Let me tell you.... GAME CHANGER!  I feel good!  I take 1 100mg b6 in the am and 1 at night with the unisom.  Please ask your dr about it.  I totally feel your pain!!  Hope you get some relief
  • @Jendink I started b6 and unisom about 3 days ago.  It's helping some.   I'm only vomiting 2-4x a day now with it instead of 20x a day.  I'm afraid to stop the zofran at this point though.

  • Diclegis is just unisom and b6 together. My insurance didn't cover it either so I did this last time.
  • I spent the morning at the doc for an awesome u/s only to get to work and get a call less than an hour later that my three year old was found with lice.  I'm BEYOND grossed out and have been doing laundry for hours.  Thank GOD for my husband who did the whole de-bugging.  Ugh.

  • @jesselayne8 I hope you start feeling better soon....with my first I FINALLY started feeling good at 18 weeks....I'm sure that doesn't give you much hope and I hope it ends sooner rather than later for you!  I'm at 12 weeks and with out the unisom and b6 I would be throwing up all day long.....
  • We are in New Orleans for a quick vacation. Not drinking in New Orleans sucks more than I realized.

  • @jesselayne8 I had this same issue with my first pregnancy and Zofran... it used to be brand name only and super expensive but you can get it from some pharmacies super cheap cash price... I think I ended up paying out of pocket cash ~$20 for 30 days worth whereas my insurance limited the number I could have in a given period of time and it still cost me over $1/pill with insurance.

You might be able to try an online pharmacy?  I'm thinking of trying this with my son's EpiPen Jr. at the recommendation of his allergist to get reduced pricing even without insurance.
  • @Ahutch428 New Orleans and Vegas are on my list of places I wouldn't visit pregnant!

@MKRLTX as a history teacher I loved the culture, architect and history. As a mom with no kids for the weekend, the non drinking sucked. Can't say I was too upset though when everyone was super hung over in the morning, and I felt great! ☺️
