IF Check-in Week of 11/14

I don't know about the rest of you, but my first trimester has been so laced with anxiety over the possibility of losing this pregnancy that it's been difficult for me to enjoy it (thanks IF). However, I will say that with each passing week, I start to feel better and better. Now that I'm 11 weeks, I am definitely starting to relax a little bit! I hope the rest of you are able to enjoy yourselves and your pregnancy!

Please introduce yourself (including your EDD and IF treatment history) if this is your first time joining us so that I can add you to the check-in!

1. How far along are you?
2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week?
3. When is your next appointment?
4. Rants/Raves/Questions:

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having?

    1. How far along are you? 11 weeks and 2 days now! Come on 2nd trimester... I'm ready for you!
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Nausea has pretty much gone away now thank goodness. I'm still very tired and dealing with occasional headaches and constipation. Boobs are still sore too...
    3. When is your next appointment? Tomorrow morning we have a consultation with the MFM doctor. I don't know what this appointment will entail though...
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I'm really excited to announce the pregnancy to the rest of my family and friends this weekend (we decided we would at 12 weeks). On Saturday I'm also going to start taking weekly bump photos (I've already got a little one forming)!

QOTW: This is our first and we want at least 1 more. I doubt we'll want more than 2 kids total (we've always had our minds set on 2) but I guess it all depends on how things go. We have 6 frozen embryos that we're currently storing so we have a lot of possibles!

    1. How far along are you? 10w3d. Only ~3 weeks till the second trimester. I cannot wait. I'm so ready to be done with the stress and anxiety of the first trimester.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I'm still crazy bloated, tired, having bad food cravings/aversions, constipated and gassy. My boobs have started getting sore again also in the last day or two and I've noticed my bra doesn't quite fit as well as it did before. Oh and I'm still getting nauseated if I don't eat pretty much as soon as I get hungry.

    3. When is your next appointment?  November 22nd. My next "real" appointment isn't till December 7th. My doctor knows how incredibly anxious and stressed out I've been so she offered to let me come in the 22nd and hear baby and have her tell me everything is OK. I knew the anxiety would be really severe waiting 4 weeks for an appointment so I quickly took her up on the offer and thanked her. It'll be great to have some reassurance that everything is OK and then by my next appointment in December I'll be into the "safe" second trimester.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I'm really excited to announce to my in-laws at Thanksgiving. My husband has been shooting down every single idea I come up with as a way to announce. And then his ideas are just... cliche and complicated. Like he wanted to put one of the ultrasound pictures on top of a bun in the oven at his mother's house so she'd find it. I told him that no one checks their oven because they preheat it. And they preheat it before they put anything in it generally so by the time the oven was opened the picture would be toast, pun intended. So he said we could get everyone (MIL, FIL, GMIL, and BIL) mugs with things like "You're going to be a great-grandma... again!" written inside on the bottom and then convince everyone they just must try some hot chocolate or whatever. But I mean, that's just overly complicated because you're hoping everyone will agree and try it at the same time. Like, no one can say "yeah that sounds good. I'll have some in a little while."

My MIL has been doing this thing since my husband and I got married where every year around Thanksgiving/Christmas she'll show me the cards she has gotten from friends and say something like "aren't my friends' grandchildren just the cutest? I can't wait till I have a cute card like that I can send them!" **wink wink nudge nudge** So I'd mentioned to my husband that maybe we could just get her some copies of the ultrasound photo and put them inside a Christmas card and give it to her. We can pass it off like we're just giving her a card early because we're notoriously bad at mailing cards on time and we won't see them again till after Christmas. And then when she opens it the card would have a little message like "Congratulations Grandma! You can finally send cards with your grandchild to your friends this year!" :) Or, ya know, something like that. Ideally I'd come up with something more eloquent but that would be the gist of it. I think it's an adorable idea because she tells me every single year how much it would mean to her. But my husband shot the idea down almost instantly. I guess it isn't cliche enough for him.  :|

TL;DR: We're announcing to my in-laws at Thanksgiving. It'll be the first grandchild on that side of the family so it's very exciting for everyone. Husband and I can't agree on how to announce.

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having? This will be our first. I'd really like to have 2. My husband originally said he'd like to have 2 but after the struggle we went through to get here my husband isn't sure he wants to do that again. It was hard on him to watch me be so frustrated and depressed over everything. But I guess we'll figure all that out once this LO is 1 or 2 years old. Something like that.

    1. How far along are you? 8 weeks 3 days
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I actually started this morning feeling sort of like a normal person. It didn't last long but those couple of hours were lovely. It also looks like coffee is my first real aversion. I wasn't feeling it last week but I was feeling optimistic this morning and had to immediately dump it out cause the smell alone was not doing good things for me. Sad day.
    3. When is your next appointment?   Well it would have been today but I went last week after having a little spotting (which has cleared up, yay!) so my OB did my whole initial appointment while I was there. At the time I thought that was a great idea but now I wish I was getting another look at baby today. So now we have to wait all the way to December 6th.
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I am determined to actually get some food with nutritional value in my body this week whether I throw half of it back up or not. All this baby wants is carbs. I feel like I already have a belly that is just straight saltines.

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having? This is baby #1. We will definitely have 1 more, maybe 2. I think 3 kids is probably my limit though. DH is one of 7 but luckily he doesn't want to keep that trend going, cause no thanks.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: hubby and i got in a fight sautrday because after being classified high-risk, i'm not sure i'm ready to tell everyone at thanksgiving now and he's PISSED!

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having?  BABY #1!!!!  But yes many more.. lol i dunno maybe 2 more?  we'll see.  I'm already 33 and this one took awhile, but at least one more.

@wifeinraleigh28 i agree with you 100% and now that i've been classified high-risk i am even MORE anxious!  :-(

@JessErinF If you don't mind me asking, what is classifying you as high risk? I'm curious because I've always been told that since I have an autoimmune disorder that I would be high risk, but when I read the notes in the patient portal from my initial OB visit, it said that I was being referred to MFM due to this being an IVF pregnancy. I was also told at my initial visit that IVF pregnancies have a slightly higher risk of heart defects so an MFM specialist will do a special scan at around 20 weeks or so. I'm trying to not worry too much about this...

    1. How far along are you? 9 weeks today

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? still feeling great. Other than being extremely tired I've also started to find myself crying over just about anything. But that's it.

    3. When is your next appointment?  we graduated from our RE last week so I went to my regular OB today. I'll go back in 4 weeks.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: Christmas is only 6 weeks away and I haven't even started shopping!!!  Now I'm gonna be a Black Friday crazy shopping all through the night and elbowing people to get the things I need simply because I've been too preoccupied napping all day to shop the ads and get things checked off early. When did Christmas start coming so early and when did 10 year old boys get so expensive

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having? this is baby #1 but I would like to have one more also. 3 would be ideal but we already have my stepson so 3 more would stretch us financially. I still want to travel and take my kids to see the world and send them to catholic school and live without restraint from money so 2 more would be comfortable for us. Having said that, it was a long enough road to get to where we are now so as many children as God feels is right for us we will gladly accept. DH and I have spent a lot of time talking about how much we would go through a second time around and have both decided that we want to fully enjoy our babies first year and then we can revisit the discussion of trying for a second and what steps we would and would not take depending if we ran into difficulty again.

@wifeinraleigh28 i have really high BP and they put me on meds.  Doc said she would refer me to a perinatologist for high risk pregnancy and she wanted to see me every week.    If you have concerns about the autoimmune disorder make sure you ask!!!  I have had a terrible experience with my most recent OB practice and am switching because of it, and it makes me realize you are your own advocate and they are NOT always looking out for you!  Not trying to incite worry, I just think its worth asking to be 100% sure.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I was pretty nauseous yesterday and had some nausea as soon as I woke up this morning. Other than that, I have felt pretty normal today! I even got off of work and cleaned the kitchen and bedroom. I'm hoping this sticks around.
    3. When is your next appointment?   Tomorrow! I got for my NT scan. My office didn't even mention NIPT with me. If my NT scan results are abnormal they will then do blood work. Praying for a healthy baby!
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I feel like I have gained so much weight already. I have not stepped on a scale since my last appointment but tomorrow they will make me. I am hoping it is just bloat but the way I have been eating, it's not looking too good.

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having? This is my first pregnancy. I would like two or three children but we will see how things go with baby #1 first.

I'm bummed that after tomorrow's appt I won't have one for a month!  How am I supposed to wait that long without going crazy?   I might ask the Dr. to let me come in for a doppler listen or something in between.
QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having?
This will be baby #2 and most likely the last.  Not planning on any more because our house and budget is going to be at capacity.  Also, I am ready to be done with having kids after this one is born.

    1. How far along are you? 10w tomorrow!
    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week?  In general this week has been much better than last.  Fatigue and ms are letting up a bit, but I'm still having crazy aversions to many foods.  I'm also noticing heartburn setting it (it started early with DD too) which I'm not looking forward to.  With DD (my second pregnancy), the heartburn set in around around 12 weeks and became so severe that I developed a chronic cough which lead to bruised (possibly cracked) ribs.  It was horrible.  There was a very loud "pop" one night and DH and I just knew something was very wrong.  One of the worst pains I can recall experiencing and near impossible to sleep in the 2 months of pregnancy.  The bruising was horrific, but they couldn't do a xray since I was pregnant.  Not much I could take and boy was labor interesting!  Hoping this doesn't go the same route!
    3. When is your next appointment?   Today is my first appointment with my OB!
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions:  I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the first trimester.  I would love to feel more energetic again and eat more than carbs + dairy.

QOTW: What baby # is this for you and how many kids do you want/plan on having? Baby #3.  In an ideal world we want 5, but we will take whatever comes our way!  There were so man years when we feared not being able to have 1 child so we feel blessed no matter what happens.

@JessErinF I actually just met with the MFM specialist this morning and she said that the reason for referral was because of my autoimmune disorder. She knew a lot about it and there are a lot of precautions in place, including inducing me at 39 weeks if I don't go into labor on my own by that point. Apparently I have an increased risk of fetal distress towards the end which could result in still birth. I'm glad they are on top of it, and now it looks like I'll be having a May baby. I absolutely love my OB office so far, but you're right, we need to advocate for ourselves!

In other news, at the MFM specialist today I had my first external ultrasound. It was very strange not having to take my pants off at the doctor... haha. We got to see our little gummy bear bouncing and wiggling around and listened to the heart beat again. My next ultrasound now won't be until January 5th when we have our anatomy scan. It's going to be so hard waiting 7 weeks to see our little one again! My next prenatal is on the 30th though and we'll get to listen to the heart beat with the doppler at least.

@Elyse1384 Yikes that sounds miserable. I hope you don't have similar problems this time around!

    @wifeinraleigh28  It went great!!!

Just got back from my appt with the NEW OB practice. OMG i am so glad I switched. i LOVE them soooo much better than the old one, i feel SOOO relieved and soo much more comfortable. *phew* They upped my RX for the hypertension because my BP is still pretty high and are going to recheck me in 2 weeks when I come for the first trimester screening that my bad office did not do. THey also had me get an EKG just as a baseline measurement considering my hypertension and cardiac history and the tech said it looked perfectly normal. So I'm relieved, I feel like they have things under control, and I am seeing the perinatologist on December 1st!
