Infertility

New and in Need of Community

edited November 2016 in Infertility
Hey Ladies,

I've been lurking for awhile and decided to do something for myself for once (strange) and join in. I keep trying to be "strong," whatever tf that means. But I feel like a bathtub overflowing with water. I have to reach out. My friends and family are wonderful but don't get it. They think that the solution is either A ) relaxing B ) not trying (?????) or C ) ......idk, adopting and then I'll get pregnant? Because if I had a dollar for every time someone told me a story like that...

Anyway. DH and I have been ttc for 17 months. After a year we saw an RE. Got an SA, came back fine, did all the requisite and oh so fun tests on me. I have bad PCOS and a septated uterus, a born-with condition where there's basically a growth taking up 40% of my uterus. Harmless except there's no blood flow there, so if a baby implants on it I am very likely to mc. Had two surgeries over the last four months to fix it, the last one this past Friday.

They found stage two endometriosis as well during this surgery! I woke up looking like a velociraptor tore my stomach up, very unexpected as I thought it was just going to be a small belly button incision, but I'm actually thrilled about it because that could be the reason for our if. Our re told me she got most of it but we have about a six month window until it starts to come back.

Is that in line with what you ladies have heard?

Also, she put me on an estrogen/progesterone cycle this month, so we can't try until af comes in about a month (thanks for that EXTREMELY helpful recent thread about when to expect af btw). I get the safety and uterus healing and uterine lining thickening and all that but it sucks to be benched. We've been benched for four months already. The tww is looking really appealing right now. "Are my boobs sore because I'm pregnant, because I'm about to get af or because I keep feeling them to gauge their soreness? Wow that's a weird pain in my lower right calf let's google pregnancy symptoms"

So glamorous!

Anyway any words of wisdom either relating to or not relating to my situation are welcome, and I appreciate in advance you all dealing with my snarkiness. It's been that kind of night.

Oh btw I'm also on metformin for the PCOS, it's been four months, and it's a godsend. Every cycle has been 29 days on the dot and I've lost 10 lbs. Big win from when my cycles were ranging from 24-38 days.

And my RE wants us to try again naturally a few months, when I'm literally itching to do an IUI. Ugh impatience. I'm trying acupuncture this Friday so I feel like I'm doing at least something proactive.

xoxo

Re: New and in Need of Community

  • Hi Jessi! Sorry you find yourself here, and I hope you get the support you are looking for.  There are some amazing ladies on this board.

In response to your endometriosis question, my RE has made similar comments to me that endo can start to return in 6 months.  He also told me there is about a 50% chance though, and that it may not return.  So hopefully you are one of the lucky ones that doesn't have it return.  I had a laparotomy today to clean up my endo, and I'm praying it doesn't return because I do not want to do another surgery like this. Even with the IV pain meds, I'm so sore.

  • @bluejeanbabi05 welcome, i think you will find a good community here. I don't have any experience with endometriosis but I wanted to wish you the best of luck!
  • Hello and welcome. I too had a uterine septum that they found when they went to clean up my endometriosis. My surgery was in March, it took a few months to heal and then our first IUI was in June. I thought the whole reason for our IF was male factor because my DH has low counts, but turns out I had some stuff going on too! Anyhow, it does suck big time to be benched. I've been benched for a cyst that occurred after my first IUI that stayed for three months, and then my doctor was out of town the next month. Incredibly frustrating. I've been able to pull positivity out of my butt somehow, which really does help. I like to go ride roller coasters when I'm especially upset, since I love it and it's something I couldn't do if I did have a BFP. I'm in my tww after my second IUI, and we've been trying for almost 4 years.

I would do natural if your doctor thinks there's a chance, only because sometimes meds can mess you up too (i.e. That cysts I got from a medicated IUI cycle)

    welcome!

  • Welcome. Yes we all have heard those unhelpful suggestions far too many times. We get you! haha... unfortunately ;) I also get the impatience... so hard to continue trying month after month, we just kinda wanna throw all we can at it and finally have our happy ever afters. Trust your gut and advocate for what you feel is best. If you strongly feel like you want to try IUI, request it.

Anyways, welcome. I hope you find this community helpful and supportive, I know I have. Good luck to you! <3

    Thank you everyone ❤️

    @MMD1986 -

yuck! I just had that surgery 6 days ago so I feel you there! Have you had it before?

I feel million times better now esp after the first two days which were the worst- the incisions hurt and I walked like an old person. I had bad cramping, back and shoulder pain for 4-5 days too, and my chest felt tight like I had trouble taking a deep breath. Much better today though. The silver lining was having DH pamper me for a couple days :)

    xoxo

ETA it somehow deleted half the post the first time when I saved it- that happen to anyone before? Mobile
