Re: March Multiples Moms Check In Week Of 11/14

  • 1. How far along are you? 18+2 today!

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? 3, GBG

    3. Any recent appointment updates? I have one today. I'll update afterwards!

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions? I had another bleeding episode yesterday that has continued into today. I plan to ask my MFM about it when I see him in just about 5.5 hours. I just want to eat all the food!

    5. Best moment with the babies this week? Hmm.. Well I did use my doppler twice, so that was good. And DH was around both times so he got to hear them too!

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples? I sure didn't. We're kinda in a holding pattern with trying to move and not wanting to get too much stuff before we do, since we'd just have to move it to our new place. I didn't see anything cool, but I'm going to look at baby wrapping twins to see if that is a thing.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more? I think we're going to go with mountains, forest and woodland animals.

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc? I don't think so.

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they?  Identical twin girls

    3. Any recent appointment updates?  I have an appointment on Wednesday. I will find out my admission date.  I'm hoping for the day after Thanksgiving, but I have a feeling it's going to be the day before Thanksgiving.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?  Exhausted and wanting to eat all the things

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?  I was playing music and they were kicking like crazy.  Little dancers already

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples?  I had my shower this weekend, so we have a ton of stuff to sort/put together.  I bought some decor items for the nursery.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more?  We are doing mountains/nature.

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc?   Stressing about getting everything ready in the next week. I want to finish the nursery, do all the baby laundry, make freezer meals, and get my bag packed.  Ack!
  • @afbaby0715 Oh no, I hope they'll let you do the day after! That would just be mean if they made you go in the day before Thanksgiving!

  • @AandDM2014- Right?!  Hospital Christmas and New Year's is going to be sad enough...At least let a girl have some turkey
  • 1. How far along are you?
     21 + 5

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they?
    2! Boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates?
Nope, my big appointment was last week. I go in next week for a TV ultrasound only. Boring.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?
I have the Leachco Back and Belly pillow (the big horseshoe shaped pillow) and I'm STILL sleeping like trash. I thrashed around all last night. Its making it really hard for me to have a good day at work. No real cravings or aversions. I've finally trained myself to drink milk. It took 4 months, but I can drink a glass without feeling like I'm going to be sick. Small victories.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
On Wednesday I was sitting at a work presentation and Baby A was kicking hard enough that I could see my belly moving through my dress. Totally weird but cool. Baby B is in a better position to feel the kicks, and now he makes my belly move, too! My favorite thing is when I wake up on the weekend and can just lay in bed and feel them kicking before I have to get up and do anything.

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples?
I've lost my mind buying baby stuff. Even though I really had a feeling they were boys, I held off on buying stuff until I confirmed sexes last Monday. I picked up two rock n plays from my twin mom group for $25 total, they don't look like they were used at all. My mom and I went on a shopping spree at Carters and got all sorts of cute onesies and sleepers and outfits in assorted sizes (they really did have a great sale). I also bought my cribs, a dresser, and bookcase for the babies room at IKEA. All in for less than $700. I've also started stocking up on cloth diapers. See #8.

There are some super cute twin onesies on zulily right now: https://www.zulily.com/e/graphic-tees-for-bffs-212514.html I feel like they're priced a bit high, but they're super cute (The PB & J one...) @AandDM2014 I know that twin baby wearing is a thing, is that what you're talking about? When I first found out I was having twins I looked it up. All of the companies that make the wrap style baby slings need to write a disclaimer saying they don't recommend wearing more than one baby at once (for liability purposes), but its doable esp when they're little.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more?
They are going to have to share a room forever, or until we move to a bigger house.  Our house has 3 bedrooms, and my husband uses one as an office. He's disabled and works from home. The chance of finding a ranch style house with 4 decent size bedrooms in my area is slim, so they're going to have to deal with sharing. I'm going with teal and gray as a color scheme with giraffes and elephants. The walls were already gray so that was pretty awesom. The furniture I got is all white, and I'm going with Teal curtains. This was the inspiration https://www.toysrus.com/buy/neutral/the-peanut-shell-uptown-giraffe-4-piece-crib-set-bsps-gir-60203896

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc?
We're going to attempt cloth diapering. (Yeah, i could be crazy...) I'm interested in the money saving, environmental benefits, and health benefits (I have sensitive skin, babies probably will too). I'm planning on becoming a SAHM once the babies are here. While I know I won't necessarily have free time, I feel like I'll have more time than I would if I were working.

Worst case scenario, we try it and its not for us. Oddly enough cloth diapers have great resale value (I know, it seems weird to me, too...). Fortunately both my mom and MIL cloth diapered, so hopefully they won't be too confused when they come to help. I've decided to get some all in one cloth diapers for when daddy helps, too. I have yet to really talk about this with anyone because I'm assuming that they'll tell me I'm completely insane, especially trying to cloth diaper TWO.
  • @direwolfmini I actually looked up twin wearing and found two great options that I put on my Amazon registry! It looks totally doable, and especially if I have help/do it for DH, I think it could totally work! Cute nursery theme! We too are going to attempt cloth diapering! I already have 17 used one I got for $150, and my grandma is planning to get a bunch for us for my baby shower. I was totally on board for doing it with one, but now doing it with three is going to be interesting! I'm really hoping our new house has an upstairs laundry room to make it easier to do it! I don't think you're crazy!

  • 1. How far along are you? 23 weeks 5 days

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? Di/di boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates? All our big appointments are done, but going in for cervical length and growth scan this week (and every other week from now on).  I'm lucky that even in the weeks where they're just checking my cervical length they also break out the abdominal u/s just to check the heartbeats and get a quick look.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?  Reflux, insomnia, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, feeling as big as a house.  I don't have specific cravings but my appetite has really increased.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?  They're kicking up a storm but it's hard to pinpoint one specific moment.

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples? I bought a couple of books to read out loud to them now, but in general haven't bought anything at all for when they're born.  Will start after thanksgiving.  But we've started making lists.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more? No, but will probably do something neutral and animal-related.  We are in NYC so they're lucky they're getting a nursery at all...definitely not going to be two of them :)

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc? I think I'm starting to get stretch marks... if I'm right, they're on the bottom of my belly, which at this point I can't really see, even in the mirror.  So ignorance is bliss, for now...

  • @AandDM2014 YES! Glad that you don't think I'm crazy.

I have started trying to build a cloth diaper stash, all used so far. I'm hoping for some black friday sales, too.

Are you going with all in ones (AIOs) or are you going to attempt prefolds? I'm planning to do a mix. I don't think I can get my "helpers" completely on board if the only diapers I have are the old school cloth prefolds.

My biggest question is how big the twins will be when they are born. I don't want to overdo it on the newborn stash, but the chance of coming home with a 8lb baby are super super slim.
  • @direwolfmini I think all of the ones I have so far are the one size fits all type with lots and lots of snaps, so that even the tiniest of babies would fit in it. They have inserts that aren't like the old school kind, they're more like a big cloth pad. There are a few different brands and types (some snaps, some velcro) and I'm sure my mom is doing a great job with guiding my grandma in her search for them. I definitely only want the ones that have the inserts so I don't have to do any work other than stuffing the diapers with the inserts and putting them on baby. I don't know how on board DH is, but he'll get used to them I'm sure! My mom clothed us, and I'm sure DHs mom will be fine with it.

  • Has anyone else seen the TV show Out Daughtered? Its about the Busby quintuplets, they're an all girl set of quints!

When i get overwhelmed thinking how crazy things will be with twins I watch this show and feel better!

If they're making it work with 5 babies (+ an older daughter), I can totally make 2 work!

Even 3 or 4 seems a bit easier after watching folks deal with 5!

I'm just lurking here, but I've cloth diapered several very small babies (my full term kids have both been under six pounds) and no matter what, your newborn will not fit in "one size" adjustable diapers right away. Even if baby is 8-9 lbs, he still has very skinny little legs and one size diapers will leak and be way too bulky. We had a separate newborn stash which we got a full 2-3 months of use with each child. One size diapers started to fit around 10 lbs. for us. We were very glad to have the newborn stash and got plenty of use out of it. We actually bought ours used so it's been through four kids already and ready for our next one - since it's only used for a few months, they don't get worn out so easily. For twins, I highly recommend a set of newborn size diapers. We use Green Mountain prefolds and fitted diapers along with Kissaluvs size 0 fitteds and Bummis, Thirsties and prowrap covers.

  • @Robi1 I'm happy to hear your suggestions! I just bought some Thirsties wraps and GMD and Ozocozy newborn prefolds used. I plan on getting some of the GMD fitteds they are actually on sale right now. Have you used any all in ones or pocket diapers? I'm concerned that daddy won't be so good with cloth diapers and would like to make it as easy as possible for him to help and for when we are out and about.
  • @Robi1 Oh goodness, thank you for the insight! I had no idea! I'll make sure we get some newborn sized ones.

  • 1.  How far along are you? 24 Weeks, 2 days

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they?  Di-Di boys

    3. Any recent appointment updates? Next appt is next week.

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions?  Feeling big and moving slow.   DD told me this week that she didn't want my nephews to see me because they will think I ate too much lol!

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?  They are kicking around a lot and I can finally feel Baby B.  He's transverse at about my belly button.  I couldn't feel him at all for the longest.

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples?  I found a used monitor and swing on a really high quality resale group.  They are both in great condition and were very affordable, yay!  The swing was the same as my DD's and she loved it, so now we have 2.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more?  They will be our room for a while but I'm going to do a little bit to the nursery before we move them. They'll share because we only have 3 bedrooms down and I'm not ready to move DD upstairs at this point.  Going to do nautical with Navy walls and red accessories. I painted an old dresser red this week for the room.  Turned out really cute.

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc?  So a bit of a rant.  I'm in a  conference all week for work.  The days are long and we have dinners to go to every night.  I've kind of been dreading it.  I ordered 1/2 glass of wine, literally told the server this, and then drank about half of the half glass at dinner because a co-worker told me it was really good so I wanted to try it.  Someone asked me across two tables of people "if I should really be drinking that."  The things that people feel the need to make their business about pregnant women never ceases to amaze me!  Ok rant over.  Just had to share with some folks that could understand.

  • @WF7968 I'm sorry you dealt with that. Why do people think they can tell pregnant ladies what to do? It must have been hard to enjoy dinner after that.  :/
  • Hey ladies - sorry I have been MIA since last week. My grandmother passed away this weekend and I have been dealing with all of that.

    1. How far along are you? 24 weeks & 5 days

    2. How many multiples are you expecting? What sex are they? di/di twins - a boy and a girl!

    3. Any recent appointment updates? Nothing this week. We have our next growth ultrasound on Nov. 29th

    4. How are you feeling, symptoms, etc? Any current cravings or aversions? - I am feeling okay. I get tired and run out of steam really quickly. Am also starting to have some pretty bad back pain and pelvic pressure especially if I am on my feet for too long.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week? - They were kicking up a storm this weekend and during my grandmother's funeral service. It was almost like they knew that I needed the little happy sensation from them wiggling around and letting me know that they are alright in there.

    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples? - We didn't buy anything this week but we did finish our registries.

    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more? - They will share a nursery and will share a room for the first few years and then we will split them up. We are doing zoo/safari animals. But we are trying to stay away from the super bright cartoonish ones and are doing more muted colors and the canvases I have bought to hang on the walls are more like pencil sketches with a bit of color thrown in. I'll try to take a few pictures to share next week.

    8. Anything else you want to share this week, questions, concerns, etc? - We are having our maternity pictures taken this weekend. I am so excited! We have a good friend that is a photographer at the beach (about 2 hours from us) and she is doing our pictures and we are spending 2 days down there. It will be nice to escape with the hubby for a couple of days of relaxation. :)

We have an appointment on Thursday as well as another anatomy scan.

This week things seem to be a lot harder! everything hurts and I'm having a hard time just walking for periods of time.

    5. Best moment with the babies this week?
They are all starting to be more active and I love feeling them mkve!
    6.  Did you buy anything this week for the babies? Did you see anything that would be awesome for multiples?
Did not buy anything yet but recently started attending a mom of multiples meeting in our area so I'm hoping they have a lot of suggestions on things we will need and what they can recommend. they mostly are parents of twins so I plan on doubling their advice for quads!
    7. Do you have a nursery theme picked out? Are you doing two or more?
No definite nursery theme yet but I plan on doing gray with blues and pinks. if we will have one or two nurseries depends on what kind of house and space we end up finding!

I tried a few AIO/pockets for newborn but didn't love them. The best ones I used were Kawaii Pure & Naturals. My husband didn't love the prefolds, but did well with fitted diapers since they have the snaps attached, so it wasn't too much harder than a pocket diaper, just two steps with the cover as well.

We use all pockets for one size, though, and love them. It's only a few months with the newborn diapers, compared to years with the one size, and frankly I did most of the newborn diaper changes, so it wasn't too big of a deal to have slightly higher maintenence diapers. He figured them out fine when he needed to.
