Weight loss

hey mamas I'm 12 weeks along with my second baby and so far have lost 4 pounds. I am eating all of the time, seriously 2breakfasts lunch snacks dinner and always dessert. I gained 50 pounds with DD and never lost weight. I was very nausea up until the last few days with little appetite for about 6-7 weeks but I've been eating the entire time to help with nausea. Any other mamas having this issue? Maybe it's just because I'm chasing a 16 month old?

Re: Weight loss

  • I lost a lot of weight (15lbs)  during first tri of last pregnancy.  Have you had you 12 week appointment yet?  My OB wasn't concerned with my weight at all until 3rd tri, by that time I had gained 50lbs and I still got placed on a high calorie diet.  If your doctor isn't concerned at this point I'd say it's safe to not stress about it.

  • I'm going for 12wk check up tomorrow so I'll discuss with her then. It's not significant weight loss obviously just unusual for me. Couldn't drop the last 5 pounds from first pregnancy when I was trying to and now that I'm pregnant and eating everything I lose it. Just seems strange. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about!
  • I just had my 11 week appointment yesterday. I have lost 15 pounds. Granted I wasn't a small girl when I got pregnant. But I'm not obese. My doc is not at all worried. Said as long as I'm eating and drinking that it's ok. Definitely talk with your Dr but you're not alone!
  • I have lost 10. I could lose 25lbs not pregnant and be at my best weight. My doc isn't worried. I'd be happy to stay at this weight or gain fewer than 20. I gained 50 with my other pregnancies and was pretty miserable and wound up with a hiatal hernia and an unpleasant delivery. So minimal weight gain would be best for me.

  • I'm 15 weeks and still down 6 pounds from starting weight. At my last appointment, my doc just wanted to make sure I stay hydrated. This is my first pregnancy.
  • I would not worry at all!

  • I'm in the same boat. I'm almost 12 weeks and I've lost 3 pounds. I've read it's common to lose weight in the first trimester, due to the hormones.  I would bring it up to your doctor and see what they say just to be on the safe side. I plan on it at my 12 weeks appointment tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry. I had mentioned to my doc that my weight fluctuates and if that would be a problem. She said due to nausea and food aversions, women do not gain weight in the trimester. She said some women can lose or gain weight at this point.

  • I've lost 20 lbs in my first trimester, possibly more. I was diagnosed with a digestive disease that makes it difficult for me to eat carbs, so I've been on a super restrictive diet. It's been absolute hell, but I'm getting some symptom relief now that I'm in my second trimester. I've been pretty worried about the effect that has on the baby, but my midwife said as long as I wasn't severely underweight the baby and I would most likely be fine.

  • With my first I lost 10 between week 8 and 12. With this one I think its 4 or 6lbs lost. I am very thin normally and with my first I had alot of food aversions and issues with things but with this pregnancy I just get full quick so I don't know what else to do I eat till I cant anymore and have taken to eating more often. When they take the pee at the office it tells them if you have proteins in your urine if you have too much they will start to be concerned with the weight loss. My MD said as long as I make sure to have protein at every meal I will be ok.
  • I wish I had your problem! But seriously, no need to worry about it. It's normal and you really don't even need to start gaining until the 20th week so if you make up the 4 lbs over the next 8 weeks you'll be more than good.
