Infertility

Lupron and the ticking clock

I am not sure if I am in the right place.  I used to be on TK all the time, but I have some issues with fertility that none of the ladies over there could help me with. I have been trying to conceive for a year and have hit a few speed bumps.  I have had tests that said I was progesterone deficient, so my doctor started me on Clomid.  It gave me an ovarian cyst and made my uterine lining too thin.  The doctor took me off of clomid.  Upon the second sonogram, it was revealed that I had an ovarian cyst, a uterine polyp, my endometrium lining was too thin, and I have uterine adenomyosis.

This past Tuesday, I just had a D+C to remove the uterine polyp.  My gynecologist did it in her office.  The local anesthetic wasn't working so I pretty much felt everything, under a slight veneer of medication. The doctor said the polyp was rather large.  She was talking about putting me on Lupron to help with the adenomyosis.   Lupron is a drug that forces you into medical menopause.  Some side effects are osteoporosis that may lead to broken bones, joint pain (that may persist even after stopping the medication), high blood pressure, fainting, and the less serious side effects of hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness and depression.    I am concerned about taking it, as I am 37 years old, and I would like to have a family, and I just don't know if this medication is worth the risk.Has anyone here ever had to take Lupron?  What were your experiences?

Re: Lupron and the ticking clock

  • I haven't had that happen to me so I can't offer any help. I will keep my fx for you that everything works out though. You are on the right board though as it sounds like you're dealing with infertility like the rest of us! How long does your doctor want you on Lupron?

  • If you have been trying for over a year, you should with an RE and not an OB.  Is your OB doing the Clomid and all that stuff?
  • @AdorkablePixie, my GYN would like me to be on it for 3 months.  My concern is that some people have side effects for the rest of their lives, even after going off this medication.
@kgbbsc7 it is a little shy of a year, actually.  My doctor started testing after 6 months of trying because I have severe endometriosis, and because I am 37 years old. In one month, it will have been a year, and I think I will explore going to an RE. If I get pregnant, it will be difficult. I am hoping to have a couple of children, so there isn't a lot of time for my crappy uterus.
Thanks, ladies.  It really helps to talk to people who understand what I am going through.
  • It's actually recommended to seek out the help of an RE after trying for 6 months if you are over 35 (for the ticking time reason)
  • Thanks, kgbbsc7. I will definitely look into that.  I am so glad I came here.
  • Yeah I think you will get a lot more answers and faster results with an RE . My OBGYN does some fertility stuff but I found he wasn't nearly as thorough as my RE . Not knocking OBGYNs but it's just not their specialty . Good luck !!!!

  • I have endometriosis.  I did Lupron therapy for 2 months.  It helped allievate the pain.  The side effects were terrible.  My RE said I could take it for six months before I had to decide to do a FET or have a hysterectomy.  We did a FET with our last embryos.
  • Did your FET work?  I have stage IV endo and am on my fourth month of Lupron.  I was told it was supposed to stop my periods, but I still have a light period with major cramps plus all the annoying menopause side effects. I have a laparotomy scheduled Wednesday as surgery two or probably three to clean up my endo.  Just hoping to hear you had a successful IVF/FET with endometriosis, because I'm quickly losing hope.
  • I never had to go on Lupron.  2 months after my Saline Salpinogram, and 1 week before I had an appointment with an RE, and I managed to get pregnant.  Sorry I can't be of any help to you @adoannie614, but I wish you all of you luck in your TTC journey.  I will be thinking about you. <3
  • My FET did not work...but I had a successful fresh cycle immediately after my last laparoscopy.

congrats to you! it most likely was your uterine polyp then, safe pregnancy
