Baby shower - hostess gift

I would like to get my mom (who is paying for the baby shower and hosting it), my cousin (who is baking and decorating all the cute cookie take always), and my SIL (who took care of all the stationary for the shower) gifts. I'd like to get my mom something larger and my cousin and sil little gifts.
Im stumped as to what to get them tho! Any one have any unique suggestions?

Re: Baby shower - hostess gift

  • I gave my shower hosts flower pots with little arrangements in them and I know a few girls who got theirs candles or lotions
  • Loading the player...
  • Mine are my aunt and cousin. I got them each a gift bag with a bottle of wine, bath salts, a candle, and some hot cocoa mix, but I had considered getting them gift certificates to local restaurants they liked or a spa instead. Ran out of time and ended up going with the other gifts instead :)
  • For my sister-in-law, who hosted, I got a massage bar and bath bomb from lush. For my mom, who paid for everything, I got her a new gym bag and water bottle.

I pick both gifts based off of past cconversation. I knew my sister-in-law has been super stressed, so I wanted to get her something relaxing. My mom just started a new boxing class and had talked about needed both the bag and water bottle in passing.
  • I'm stumped here also! my shower is Nov 20th tho so need to get on it.  I have 3 SIL throwing my shower.
  • Oh good idea! My sprinkle isn't until dec 18 so I might get the hostesses a cute ornament or Christmas candle.
  • Now I feel bad.... My Mom and sister are helping me. I'm paying for everything, but we're using my mom's house and my sister is helping with the set up/food prep. With all the money I'm spending I totally didn't even think about a host/co-host gift!!

    Time to scramble!

  • I did wine and DSW gift cards with it saying something along the lines of ' thanks for helping LO get off on the right foot'
  • My SIL gave me a very nice charm bracelet as a thank you for her baby shower last year.  If they like jewelry, maybe an Alex and Ani bracelet.

  • I've got a question about work baby showers (and I think the other baby shower thread is closed now?).  Some coworkers are planning a shower for me in mid-November.  Do you think it's necessary to give the hostesses of this shower a gift?  I think I know the two people who are planning it, but I'm not 100% sure.  Also, regarding thank you notes - do you think sending one "thank you" to everyone who comes to the shower and posting in a common area is sufficient, or should I give each person an individual thank you?
  • @juliebird6 For my DD, I knew who pulled my work shower together and gave her a little something - I think it was a Starbucks GC to say thank you.  For the gifts, I gave each person a thank you card.

  • @juliebird6 I gave my two hostesses gift cards as thank yous. I knew who they were so it made it easier. If you don't know who they are for sure, then give them one once you know for sure or ask before hand from other coworkers. Each person who gave a gift received a thank you card, even when it was a group gift.
  • I got my mom and sister a nice pretty affordable necklace off amazon.
  • Thanks for the ideas ladies! I think I have a few good ideas now!!

  • I'm glad this was posted! i didn't even think about it! I have 5 ppl planning it...MIL, SIL, mom, and two sisters. I want to do something nice, but I don't want to spend a lot on 5 gifts.  Maybe a nice candle and something else? I'm guessing the two mom's are putting  more money into it.
    Time to start thinking!

  • My shower's at the end of the month and I hadn't even thought about this. Thank you ladies for giving me some great ideas!

  • Ok I've decided I will do little gift bags with an ornament, candle, mug and either some festive tea or cocoa.  Lots of holiday bazaars coming up where I can find some cute, affordable things.
  • Ok my sister is throwing my shower, but I'm not sure if she's going to have help from her roommate (also one of my best friends) or anyone else. Should I wait until after the shower so I know who to get a little something for? Or should I at least take something for my sister?
    IAmPregnant Ticker
  • @shlecka could you ask your sister if anyone else is helping her? If that's awkward, I would say wait until after the shower to give gifts to those you know leant a hand.
  • @underthesea I actually started that text today and deleted it because I don't want to be like "I'm getting you a present and want to see if I need to get someone else one too"
    IAmPregnant Ticker
  • Soooo, gave my mom and dad $50 in gift cards for a date night. Because my dad did a lot of remodelling to get the house ready/presentable. And for my sister my husband picked out a Zelda backpack (she is 18 and loooves video games. Just started college this semester too, so needs a better backpack). They were all pretty happy. Lol

  • @shlecka yeah it is kind of a difficult thing to phrase. Maybe something like "Thank you so much for all the work you are doing for my shower. Is anyone else helping you?"
  • My first time round I gave my hostess' some hand made chocolates from a fancy chocolate place and hand made soy candles from a different shop. Nothing too crazy buy stuff they could use and enjoy.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @shlecka Agree with @underthesea. Just be kind of low-key about asking. If you're still in the process of it being planned (invites, food, etc.), maybe like, "Thanks for putting this all together! Is there anyone else helping you in case [last minute invites, etc.]?"
  • @canavara @underthesea Both good calls. Yeah I think the phrasing was what I was struggling with.

    IAmPregnant Ticker
  • So happy you posted this!! I didn't even think about it til now. There eared some great suggestions here!
  • Normally for showers and hostess gifts I love to do a bunch of big jars of homemade soup or biscotti for hosts, but since i'm still without kitchen, I'll probably do a nice bottle of red wine and some chocolates.
  • I got my mom a coach umbrella with a cheesy saying about a rain "shower"
I also got my cousins that helped host shower gel with the same cheesy saying

  • Ok I ended up getting my sister a few things from Lush- a couple bath bombs, some shower jelly, several goodies. The whole time I was in there I wanted to buy everything for myself!!

  • DH & I workout together at this boot camp every morning. A big group of our friends from there are hosting a Co ed shower for us in 2 weeks at a park by someone's house. I have no idea how many people are actually in on the planning. it sounds like they have a big Facebook group chat talking about it. What sort of thank you do you think we can do for this situation?
