Chest strap heart rate monitor detect fetal heart rate?

I  have a heart rate monitor I use for my orange theory fitness classes. I was curious so I put the strap on near where I thought the baby was and turned on the "track your workout at home" part of the otf app. It picked up a 132 bpm heart rate. I was lying down and barely moving so it wasn't my heart. Has anyone else tried detecting the baby's hr like this? Do you think it was a fluke or really working?

  • How interesting, I think it may be possible - but not sure.  have you tried repeating the exercise?  How far along are you?

Our baby boy:  Due on 17 April, currently 37 weeks.  I can't believe it - I made it to full term!!!!

  • Loading the player...
  • I just downloaded the BabyScope app and have been able to find the baby's heartbeat using the microphone on my iPhone ...
  • Hmm. I have a heart rate strap too. Maybe I'll try that and see what happens.

  • I tried today for a while, I couldn't get it to work for me. However I'm in my 15th week. So I may try again in a couple weeks

  • @Dannylion24  how far along are you?  and how did you know it's the babies heartbeat, not yours that you found?

  • I'm 20 weeks @smallanimal The heatrate was much much too fast to be mine, plus the app instructs you to find your own first for reference. I just stumbled upon the app and thought for $4.99 I'd give it a try since I don't have a HR monitor of any kind. There are a ton of different ones, though I believe they do recommend you wait till later along in the pregnancy (I didn't see that until after I'd purchased).
  • My chest strap monitor did not pick up DS's HB, even once I was pretty far along. My uterus sits pretty far back though, so that may have been my issue. It doesn't seem outside of the realm of possibility that it would be able to pick it up.

  • I think it's possible. I'm 19 weeks and last week when I was 18 weeks my Ovia app said the baby's heartbeat is now or soon detectable with a stethescope
