PGAL Check In 11/7

This is for all our March moms who have experienced a loss- we are here to support one another! 3

1. How far along are you?

2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why?

Re: PGAL Check In 11/7

  • 1. How far along are you? 22 weeks 6 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Viability- next week!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: This past week I started feeling movement finally! Little kicks and jabs, mostly on my upper right side and my lower belly. DH even got to feel it once from the outside which was exciting. I have a OB appointment today and I am a lot less anxious now! DH is going to this appointment too which I am happy about because he missed the last one...and then I think we are going to Buy Buy Baby afterwards to check things out.

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? I am a big history nerd and shamefully know quite a bit about our presidents- I think it would have to be a cross between Lincoln or FDR. Both were president during a hard time in our history but were able to bring us out of diversity and make our country a better place because of it. A great president has to not only be a good leader but also be inspiring....and unfortunately I just don't see that in our current candidates :( (don't want to stir up any political debates here).

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: So I took a nap yesterday afternoon, and when I woke up to go to the bathroom, the toilet paper felt different than it shoud, so I turned the light on and it was bright red. I wiped away to make sure, and again it came back bright red. There was none in my undies, but I was still freaked. I called the nurse advice line, and while waiting on hold twice I checked again. It came back with blood again, but less than the first times I wiped. I was advised to go to the ER (urgent care isn't open on Sundays), so I went downstairs to wake DH, but luckily he was already awake. He asked if I was going somewhere, and I said "yes, and you are too. Time to get up and dressed, we're going to the emergency room". I was seem relatively quickly and had my blood drawn and gave a urine sample. The us techs in the ER weren't fully trained for pregnancy bleeding after IVF, so the on call OB came down to do an abdominal and vaginal ultrasound. Babies looked great, and B was seen bouncing around before it was his turn to have his heart checked. My cervix was also nice and long and super closed. There didn't seem to be a reason for the bleeding, so I waited a bit more the results of the blood/urine tests, and told I was good to go home, but to come back if the bleeding got any worse. Luckily it hasn't, and is almost completely gone, just the tiniest bit of color when I wipe. There is a note in my chart that I came in, and my MFM should see it when he opens my file on Monday. This really got my PGAL brain working in overdrive.

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? Uhm... I dunno...

  • 1. How far along are you? 21w3d (fun fact - LO is the size of a Chipotle Burrito)

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Right now, I just want to fast-forward to meeting my LO. I know pregnancy is supposed to be a miracle and fun and everything, but I just want my baby already.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? I think there is a little from each President that I think is amazing, but all were far from perfection (which is to be expected, considering they are human).
  • @Spartanrd4 Yay for movement!!  I am feeling it now too.  It started as questionable things in week 18 and now at almost 20 I feel A LOT.
@AandDM2014 I had a bleeding scare like that a few weeks ago too.  I'm glad all was OK.  We think mine was caused by sexy time and/or straining to poop the same day.   I hope it continues to go away & doesn't come back.  That is the worst for PGAL anxiety.

Sorry I have been AWOL for a while.  Work has been kicking my butt generally.

    1. How far along are you? 19+6, half way tomorrow!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?  Fetal cardiologist on Dec. 8th.  Having my girl big enough that DH can also feel her movements.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:  I had my AS today.  Baby looked perfect to them EXCEPT she has a single umbilical artery.  Abnormalities seem to be isolated to only that which is good.  I had NIPT and it was clear for downs, so it's unlikely that she has a genetic abnormality.  We'll see the fetal cardiologist on the 8th to confirm that there are no heart defects.  The MFM doc and tech seemed to think she looked OK today, but he wants it confirmed for reassurance.  I'll also have growth scans with them at 28 and 34 weeks.  Not sure if the OB will check me too at my regular checks or not.   For now we just try to remain positive and hope for the best.  She cooperated for most of the scan but then went buck wild in the middle.  The MFM said that he considers that a good sign that she is getting the proper nutrients and has enough energy that she has some to spare going nuts like that.  Let's hope that continues!

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why?  Ugh.  I hate politics.  I have everything to do with this current election.  It is pitiful.  I can't wait for it to be over.  Honestly I don't recall that much about historical presidencies to have a fav. Maybe Lincoln?

@MrsBinPA nice to see an update from you, I thought about you awhile ago and was wondering how you were! So glad your AS and NIPT were clear and hope that your baby girl will keep on growing and going buck wild from here on out ;)
  • Thanks @MrsBinPA. It had mostly stopped, but then of course I had a BM this morning, and it came back a little from the straining, but since then has again decreased. I hope that everything turns out okay with your LO and you get some good news at your fetal cardiologist appointment and growth scans!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
Feel like @JustAnotherUsername16 I just want the baby already but am excited about the brunch I'm having to celebrate baby and my bday in January. We just confirmed everything this past weekend. It's going to be small but inviting everyone who helped me get through my last loss.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: DH has really stepped up this pregnancy and it really makes me fall more in love with him ❤️

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? I don't discuss politics or religion
  • @mcdonald-bailey I love that you are inviting everyone who helped you through your last loss - what a wonderful thing to do.

This Saturday is my original due date with my first pregnancy. Even though I am excited to meet this LO and very happy to currently be pregnant, this Saturday is going to be especially difficult for me. I think that's why I am feeling so negative currently about being pregnant - I want the pregnancy part to be over and just have my baby in my arms already.
  • @JustAnotherUsername16 my loss EDD was last month and it was a really weird feeling being PGAL ....hope the day passes quickly for you. I want my baby here too but then I freak out and realize all the things I still need to do to get ready and then I think...well maybe she can wait a little bit longer!
  • @JustAnotherUsername16. I know how hard loss due dates are.  I am dreading my loss #3 date in early December.  I hope I never have to have another one of them again.

I also miscarried #2 the week of Thanksgiving last year. I'm sure it will be on my mind then too.

Hugs to all of you.  This stuff is hard.

  • @JustAnotherUsername16 Hugs to you for this coming weekend. I hope you are able to take the time you need to process the day as you need to. On my EDD in June, DH and I took a ceramics class and made votive candle holders and coasters to memorialize our lost baby. I wasn't pregnant at the time but it was my fertile week, so we did what we could to conceive. :) I got my BFP that cycle and like to think that both my body and heart went through an appropriate healing process. Because you are PgAL, I'm sure there are many complicated emotions to reflect on. But also know it's perfectly fine to prefer to be distracted and busy that day. That can be just as therapeutic.

Just know we're here for you and while the EDD is hard, there's no wrong way to spend it - either quietly and full of thoughts or busy and full of people and activities. I hope the day goes quickly for you.  <3
  • 1. How far along are you? 22+1

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Viability and feeling kicks

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Rave: LO is a baby girl! Rant: LO's kicks are quieter and/or muted today. I'm sure it's just her positioning. I just wish they were as strong and definite as I'm used to - especially now that it's been announced we're having a daughter. (But we all know it doesn't matter when movement is less frequent or evident - it'll worry the PgAL brain regardless.)

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why?
    Avoiding politics, sorry.

  • Haha my GTKY question got controversial today I guess, didn't mean it that way...I just love history!!  :#
  • @Spartanrd4 I appreciate the effort!  <3 One of the reasons (if not the main one) I don't start ticker changes or check-ins is the pressure to have a good GTKY! ;)

    1. How far along are you? 20 weeks!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? This pregnancy being over already! edit: over and with a happy healthy baby in my arms... I'm not sure I'm going to hit one enjoyable stage at this point.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: movement makes PGAL brain so much happier but no one warned me that his flip and flops and jabs would be so dang uncomfortable! We went to a Carlos Santana concert last weekend and baby's was either rocking out or not impressed bc he punched and jabbed me the whole time and played bongos along on my bladder.

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? Frank Underwood
  • @BaylieGirl haha I had to look up Frank Underwood...clearly I've never seen House of Cards. I enjoyed the President from Independence Day  :p
  • My EDD for my April loss actually passed this weekend, but we didn't do anything to mark the occasion. I doubt DH remembers, and I'm much more focused on this healthy pregnancy to dwell on it. Actually the only reason I even remembered is because I friended one of the gals from the infertility board who was due just a few days after me and she had her baby last week. I don't really feel sad about it because this pregnancy is so much healthier/better than that one ever was.

  • 1. How far along are you? 20 weeks today!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? DH being able to feel baby's kicks, and my next OB appointment the day before Thanksgiving. Just a check in, but I love going to the doctor to be reassured.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Feeling good! I have this perfume though, it's my favorite fall scent from a small company I LOVE called olo fragrance. I had just gotten it 2 years ago, and it reminds me of my first loss, which was my most difficult one. I see it every morning and stop short of reaching for it because although I'm not superstitious really, I just feel like I can't smell it. Smell is a very powerful memory-inducer for me. I know I should just put it away somewhere so I don't have to look at it, I don't think I'll ever be able to wear it again. Just one of those random things that reminds me that this has been a really long journey, and I'm so grateful to be where I am today.

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? Tough one - but this being election day I'll keep it to myself. Hope everyone is voting today or voted early!

  • @AandDM2014 what a scare! I'm glad to hear that everything is okay but can imagine all the terrifying thoughts running through your head.

    1. How far along are you? 20 weeks 5 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? 24 weeks - viability

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I feel like pregnancy is starting to slow down a bit. Even though I'm halfway there.....it seems like there is so much more time to go! I know little one needs to cook longer but some days I just think about how much longer I have to go.

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why?  I'd probably go with Lincoln. I think he had the most influence on our country as we know it today. Sometimes it still baffles my mind that we had a Civil War in this country. I'm ready for this election to be over as well! Living in Pennsylvania we have just gotten bombarded with political ads and both candidates were here the past two days. It'll be a relief when it's over.

Ugh @sarahbobby I couldn't agree more. I am in North Carolina which is considered one of the biggest swing states in this election. Trump showed up here yesterday to have a last ditch effort at an election eve rally. Then, Clinton showed up hours later and threw a midnight rally last night. Both of them spent at least part of their election day on campaigning efforts in NC.

As a registered independent/unaffiliated voter in a swing state, I have had more mailings, phone calls, and people show up at my doorstep than I can even count. I've tried to be understanding, but last night when someone rang my doorbell at 10 PM, I was LIVID. I am SO ready for this campaign season to be over.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?  Not a milestone but looking forward to my echo scan at the end of the month.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm feeling the baby move more often and can even feel some of his bumps from the outside :)

    4. GTKY: In honor of the Presidential election tomorrow, who do you think has been the best President we have had in our history and why? Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. Cause  electrolytes.
  • @justanotherusername16 that is just brutal! I would be so mad if someone showed up at 10 PM at my house! Ugh! Fortunately we haven't had anyone come to the house but I'm registered as a Republican and hubby is a Democrat so we get a TON of mail! We also have a tight senate race that is filling up our mailbox with flyers.

The only plus was that when I voted today they had a bake sale and I loaded up on baked goods for the work day. Heaven for a pregnant woman!

  • @JustAnotherUsername16 - WOW - I can't believe they showed up that late!!! We have an electronic doorbell that I can see/talk to someone without opening my door and I use it heavily right now during election season. I love turning people away without ever even opening the door. Just defeats them from their whole set up from the get go. It's also used more as security since we have a family where all their children are either on probation or going to be on probation right up the street. They've already vandalized our neighbors house and stolen from another neighbor (witnessed so we KNOW it's them).

@AandDM2014 - keeping you close in my thoughts these past few days - hope the bleeding is done. I know I still check the TP after every bathroom visit. I wonder if those without losses are chronic TP checkers like us?

    1. How far along are you? 22 weeks 5 days

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Viability - a little more than a week to go

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: The patient I had who was undergoing a miscarriage sent a letter to my work thanking how kind I was and updating me on her progress. I still have been thinking about her so it was so nice to get an update. Rarely do we get the final outcome in the ER.

I've been really stressed out with work lately. Our management is less than ideal. They are targeting employees and we get threatening emails (like at least two a day) telling us how we will be written up/terminated for minor things. We're hemorrhaging employees and they just view us all as replaceable. It's terrible. I love what I do but after this baby comes I'll be looking for work elsewhere because I can't continue working in such a hostile environment. I'm hoping to just stay down low for the next few months and get over this. Like we don't have enough places to put our lunch boxes. We were told essentially if caught carrying our lunch boxes around in the department we would be written up - they need to go to the break room. Well the break room has zero room for them and if I leave it out on the counter/table someone steals our food. You know what makes a pregnant lady unhappy? Looking forward to lunch only to find SOMEONE ELSE ATE HER PACKED LUNCH. Seriously. I always feel like crying before work because I hate the atmosphere I work in so much. The manager is watching us on security cameras for minor infractions. It's just... not a good place to be.

  • @marshmallowfarts Thanks! As far as I can tell the bleeding has stopped. I also wonder if those without losses have as much fear and anxiety as we do. How exciting that you're getting so close to viability! Woah, you're work environment sounds horrendous! I'd be pissed if I was getting threatening emails about things out of my control. And since when did it become okay to steal from people? I don't understand why anyone would do that!
