Book Recommendations

Hi! Does anyone have any pregnancy books they'd recommend,  besides "What to Expect"?

Re: Book Recommendations

  • I used an app to follow the week by week stuff (changed too quickly and not enough time to read). I did, however start reading some parenting books. I liked the baby whisperer and it worked well for my now 4 month old.

  • Expecting Better
  • There's one by Mayo Clinic. I think it's called Mayo's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy, but I'm not 100%. I liked the tone much better than the What to Expect books.
  • Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy

It wasn't exactly informative, but it was a funny read. Helped me be able to relax and enjoy being pregnant without feeling like I needed to live in a bubble for nearly 10 months.

  • I liked both, Bringing Up Bebe and Wonder Weeks. I guess these are more for after baby is born. Bringing Up Bebe is more of a "for fun" read. It is a look at parenting in Paris through the eyes of an American ex-patriot. Some of the tips make you think though.

Not a book but, the Netflix special called "Babies" was interesting with lots of information.

I also, read Happiest Baby on the Block and Baby Whisperer too. Both have lots of newborn info. They did't impress me too much as most of it seemed more like common sense but, I'm glad I read them.
  • TBH, the book I liked best was actually my husband's. It's called "Dude! You're Gonna Be A Dad." It's a guide for the partners of pregnant women. But it was entertaining. I bought the Mayo Clinic's Pregnancy Guide which was also informative.

  • With my first pregnancy I bought  Mayo Clinic's Pregnancy Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy and loved it.

  • Like others have said, I've heard the Mayo Clinic has a good book. I bought "Dude! You're going to be a dad!" for my husband and it's great. I love What to Expect.

I tried reading some "natural" pregnancy books and couldn't even finish them, so I'd just say be cautious with the "alternative" pregnancy books. There's a lot of tone issues, in my experience.
