1st Trimester

Start buying stuff already ?

Hello to all mums to be. im 4 weeks pregnant and already  considering buying baby stuff ( apart from cloth) to split the cost over the next 8 month. do you think this is a bad idea?when are you planning to start shopping?

Re: Start buying stuff already ?

  • Not a bad idea at all.  Yes, you could miscarry and that would be horrible but I'm on the bandwagon with you!  I already purchased a (used) Baby Brezza.  Planning to BF but if that doesn't work out then it will come in handy. If I don't need it I can just re-sell it.  My sister brought over some stuff even before we started trying. She said it was taking up "prime real estate" in her basement haha!  I was at my friends the other day and came home with a bottle warmer, baby bullet and a carrier.  It's never too early.  Babies are expensive and you don't want to be stuck with that bill the last few months of your pregnancy.  I already have a ton of stuff picked out for the nursery. Hoping to stay as gender-neutral as possible so I don't have to change much as we plan on having more.
Congrats btw!  I'm 5 weeks today.  Exciting times ahead!  :D

  • Ultimately do what you want to do but I would suggest waiting until after a baby shower. That way you can buy the things you need that you didn't get during the shower. I'm not saying to not buy anything - if you see something cute, go ahead but I would suggest limiting yourself to just 1 or 2 items a month or so.

  • I'd wait. 4 weeks is so early still. We accepted gifts/hand me downs but didn't buy anything until after the baby shower. can you just put $ in a savings account and use it later? that way you're till prepping. I know it's hard to not buy things when you're so excited though!
  • We dont do bbaby showers where i live ....since many mention it how far are you normally when you have a babyshower ?is anyone of you considering going eco ( eco nappies ,cotton  only cloth, glass bottles instead if plastic ) ?
  • @captainfay

Baby showers are usually held / thrown / given sometime during the 3rd trimester. My cousin had hers when she was around 32 or 33 weeks I believe.

  • Personally I am not going to buy anything until I at least hit 12 weeks. I've had 2 miscarriages and I'm afraid i'll jinx myself or we will get stuff and never have a healthy baby. My cousin gave me her daughters crib last month since they got her a big girl bed. They also gave me a changing table. It was free so I said why not, if we cant have children then I will donate it one day. Some of my coworkers started buying stuff the day after they got their BFP. One girl even had her nursery finished by 8 weeks! Its all personal preference, so do what makes you happy mamma!

  • I totally second gift cards! Get a $10 or $20 card when you can and stash them away then after your shower you can go baby crazy!!! But 4 weeks is a little early to start buying things... especially if this is your first.... good luck! Congrats!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

    Baby Dust To All!!!

  • I think to each their own. I have my appointment in the morning to find out how far I am. Thinking anywhere from 5-7 weeks. I already have a crib that was brand new and given to me. A dresser and rocking chair. My mom bought us a brand new travel system through an auction and is givin it to us as our shower gift. Everything I'm doing is gender neutral, woodland creature nursery. I even have a few things I bought like a Tula carrier a while ago. Babies are exspensive, breaking it up is really helpful. This is our 1st so we will have a shower that my mom is hosting so I'll register for everything else.

Hello and congrats to you. I was recently pregnant and experience an miscarriage in Sept. I had just about everything I need for my baby girl. then the unexpected came and I miscarriaged on labor day. it was a rough day for me and my family but I overcame it. and now I'm pregnant at 5wks. I still have the baby items. I just thought I let you know what happen to me. You can do what you feel but if it were me I would wait. I was 17wks when I miscarriaged.
  • Stock up throughout!!!! I did this with my first and second and NEVER regretted it. The only thing to be careful on is clothing. They grow fast and may be grown out of the seasonal clothing before the season.
  • Every time I go to the store I grab a pack of diapers.

  • Congrats on your little one! I'm ten weeks tomorrow, and I have not started buying anything for baby yet, but I have bought some maternity clothes. Everything is on sale now, and I'm a pretty big bargain shopper! I'll probably need them in another month anyway
