( I Look ) 16 and Pregnant

Okay, so maybe that's just wishful thinking for this 30 year old, but my pregnancy acne is out. of. control. With my twins, I enjoyed an entire pregnancy of glowing, clear skin. This time around, I've been breaking out since egg met sperm.

My girls asked me today today if only moms get pimples.

I'm opposite. My skin was great all through high school. It was only half way through college that my skin got terrible. It's so bad that I'll even wear a little foundation to the gym because it just looks awful. I try a new skin care regimen every time the old one runs out. I'm really really hoping that those hormones that are giving me horrid morning sickness start kicking in on my skin and clearing it up a little!

At least it can't get any worse (I hope).

  • Oh my gosh, yes!  I did not have acne this bad in high school or with my other pregnancies. Oddly, my acne isn't on my face, it's in my hairline, neck, back, and chest. So irritating!
  • I was literally just about to start a thread about what everyone is doing with their skin care now!  Mine is horrific!

Prior to TTC, I was in aczone which is a category C med so I had to come off it. Then after my first m/c my skin went bonkers and hasn't recovered. It's only gotten worse. I've tried clean and clear, clearasil, neutrogena, dove and st Ives all with no luck. Even went to my derm who said my options are limited over the counter. Ladies help!!
  • I've not really been having acne other than the occasional zit but I do use The Body Shops tea tree oil products and they really seem to help quite a bit.  They smell kinda gross but are effective.   Especially the overnight lotion.
  • Gahhh. I was just thinking to myself last night that my face looks like a giant pizza. I have the regular ol zits along with the deep painful cystic zits. I need a new face cleanser but not quite sure where to turn.
  • Yes!! My face is normally clear from conception and onwards, but this round it's back to 15 years old. It's on my forehead, cheeks and chin. I'm trying Lexli, it's an aloe based acne wash and so far seems to be helping tame this hormonal mess.
  • My face broke out, around my chin area, right around when my period was due until about 6w. For the last 3 weeks I've been enjoying clear, decent skin. However, I'm worried about continuing my regular skin care because I've heard some ingredients can affect the baby?

  • Not sure if it'll work for extreme cases, but I've had good luck with the Burts Bees products. You can find them at Target or CVS, etc. They're mostly natural so I think that's better for pregnancy.

An old wives' tale is that girls "steal your beauty" so if you're not feeling pretty, it could be a girl!  :)
  • Agreed!  My skin has been breaking out like crazy with this pregnancy.  With my dd I didn't have this problem.
  • I'm having similar issues... skin is drying out with a pimple here and there on my face, my scalp condition is flaring, and the random ear/chest/back acne is just gross (and painful).  It's not a ton but still constant... ugh... didn't have this with my twins either .
  • My face has actually been clearer than normal during this pregnancy. Now my back and chest are another story. I'm done wearing v necks for the unforeseeable future  :(
  • Me, too! It's wicked like when AF is in full swing. Makes me think I might be team pink; "girls steal your beauty" as the saying goes, and I was glowing from beginning to end when pregnant with DS.

  • Just a little tip from my gyn from my last pregnancy - Apple cider vinegar will clear it all up. I had switched doctors real late in the game and he mentioned it to me and it worked like a charm. It smells a little funny though so warn the hubby.  :D

They also make ACV tablets if you can't stomach the smell.
  • Wait..Apple cider vinegar?  Do you drink it?  How much and how often?
  • Ugh, I have pimples like crazy too! I didn't have more than one at a time with my daughter so I don't know what the heck is going on with this baby!
  • I was having some terrible acne from basically conception up until now. Horrible cystic pimples on my forehead and my chin.  My face has cleared up now and for the love of god I hope it stays that way. My last pregnancy I was pretty and glowy and I was like "oh it must be a boy" and then at about 10 weeks through delivery my skin sucked. And it was my DD stealing all my beauty.
  • I had them like crazy last week. I kept letting my family that new that I looked like a 16 year old girl who doesn't know what face wash is yet. Luckily this week seems to be better on that front but throwing up has taken its place!

  • I totally second the apple cider vinegar. I used it as a wash basically. Put it on a cotton ball, watered down the ACV on the face, followed it with argan oil. Worked a charm. I need to get some more for this time. Especially for my shoulders!

    What she said ^^^^

I dabbed it on my skin after a quick wash. I don't tend to use a lot of skin care products but the wash I have is unscented. Maybe that's why hubby kept throwing the vinegar away
  • I always make sure to get ACV with the mother in it.  Supposedly its better for your skin. Not sure though. Hehe, my DH never said anything about the smell though.

  • I've always had bad hormonal breakouts around my time of the month and my breakouts were really bad when I was pregnant with DD. It's just starting now with this one too :( I feel like I've moved past the "how do I get rid of this crap" stage to the "how do I cover this crap up with makeup" stage. I am going to pick up some ACV today though!
