Infertility

endometriosis treatment

I am 28 years old and got diagnosed with endometriosis two years ago. I also had a pelvic inflammatory disease at the same time, I've always had unbearable painful cramps, and very heavy periods. Additionally, my doctor told me that the endometriosis is blocking my right fallopian tube, making it hard to have kids one day. I'm in a lot of pain and I am very sad my quality of life is very poor. I hope surgery will allow me to conceive, or if there is any natural treatment out there? thanks for any help.

Re: endometriosis treatment

  • Hello, sorry you're in pain. I'm right there with you. I'm sure you've been asked this but were you diagnosed with a laparoscopic procedure or based on symptoms & scans? You're stage really makes a difference and what you goals are. If you have Stage 3/4 they often want you to try to put your fertility goals before your pain management goals/surgery which is what I'm doing - but it's been hard because of the pain. Usually that's Fertility drugs or IVF. In the mean time - Changing your diet can help significantly (no red meats, limited dairy etc). After 4 months I noticed a huge difference - I've passed out from the pain at times around my period and now, it's still bad but it's manageable. I can now also drive longer distances before it gets uncomfortable on any day of the month. I also find visualizing and deep breathing helps a lot to calm everything down. Endo is something we get to live as there's no cure but it doesn't have to define you. Sounds like you need work with your doctor to help you decide on your goals and what you can do to reach them. Good luck!

  • @monica1 - I'm so sorry you're struggling with quality of life right now. I've been there, and it sucks, so I really empathize with how you're feeling.

I so agree with @Jwatt5 - the first question I ever ask someone is have you altered your diet? It can seem overwhelming and a lot of people give it up when it doesn't help them right away, but given time, diet was the single most effective thing for me to manage my symptoms. I would be on the floor sobbing in pain and prescribed narcotic painkillers to cope, and now rarely even have to take a midol. It's not an overnight fix, and it requires dedication and work at a time when you're already feeling so crummy but it pays off. My quality of life has changed beyond belief.

I outlined my diet changes in this video if you're interested...  https://youtu.be/1GPbZucO_34

I acknowledge diet changes are individual and the same thing doesn't work for everyone. You really have to learn what are your triggers and adapt accordingly. I found a food sensitivities test was a good place for me to start and then as I felt better I would re-introduce foods and see how I felt. That being said, the biggest ones are NO dairy, NO wheat, NO alcohol, NO caffeine (I've found matcha green tea powder alright), NO red meat.

I also found acupuncture, castor oil packs, and reiki have helped me. Good luck and if you have any questions at all please feel free to pm me and ask. Big hugs to you... I remember feeling like you describe and it's so discouraging and frustrating, especially when those around you don't understand and get tired of hearing you complain or bail on plans because of your wellness.

  • I'm so sorry you are hurting and having to go through this. Endometriosis is not fun! Like others have said, I've heard that diet can help a lot. I personally haven't changed mine since being diagnosed, as I am one of the lucky few who don't have any pain from it even though I am stage IV, but it can't hurt to try out the diet.
  • thank you so much for all the replies, I'm feel much better now, recently my gynacologist prescribed me the herbal therapy fuyan pill, the pain is slightly
reduced now, I am hoping that it will be able to cure my endometriosis and help me lead a normal life once again.

  • I am sorry to hear you are in pain. It has been a constant struggle to deal with endo, but like others have said, changing you diet can help. I cut out dairy and reduced my red meat intake and I can feel a difference. I have heard the fuyan pill is a scam from various websites...
