UGHHHH - people's awkward/rude comments...

Thought it would be therapeutic to let us vent about the rediculous things people say when your pregnant.... here are the two that really grinded my gears....share yours?!

"I can tell your getting really close cause your face has gotten really chubby"

(in September I wore an orange sweater to work) " hey is that your Halloween costume? - you look like a pumpkin"

ughhh come on people!!!!!!

Re: UGHHHH - people's awkward/rude comments...

  • I got a few weeks ago, "There better be a baby in there." I felt like saying, "No, I just ate a big lunch." Just to see his face. Haha
I wasn't upset by it though, maybe cause it was my first public comment. I don't mind friends/family saying how "huge" I've gotten cause I know I'm just pregnant. My boyfriend is good at reminding me that I'm still beautiful which helps a lot as well.
I've carried pretty small (measuring perfectly though) so I haven't gotten many comments from the public till the last few months. I'm guessing people don't want to risk me just being fat & not pregnant. Haha Oh well!

  • @brownylover same here, I think I've only gotten 3-4 comments in public, and the first one wasn't until after 30 weeks I think. One of the recent comments I could tell she thought I was but it wasn't until I said something that definitively gave it away that she actually said something
  • I live in a city and got stopped on the street yesterday by a questionably sane dude who looked at me and said, "That is one be-aut-iful baby in there!" Whether or not he meant it to be creepy... was creepy.
  • I work in a large corporate setting, I see the same 200+ people every day, I get at least one comment a day, either, "why are you still here?? Isn't that baby way overdue??" (which started around 30 weeks) OR a comment about my weight, either that I "barely" gained anything extra, or how you can't even tell from behind I'm pregnant. Most ask how I'm feeling though, which I technically hate the most because I want to tell the truth (obviously I feel terrible) but I just smile and say "great!" instead because I don't want to get into it.

I really think these people are genuinely excited for me and don't mean anything by the comments, but like, please stop referring to my appearance... I don't give a damn how I look, good OR bad...

  • I got way more comments my first pregnancy, and am enjoying having less this time around. The one that really bugs me though is, "You've gained a lot of weight recently." They mean it as a compliment (indicating they've noticed I'm pregnant), but it just doesn't come off that way.
  • "You look tired."

    Do I? Thanks.
  • "How are you feeling?"   I know they mean well but really....

  • one co-worker is so convinced that I am so tired and I should rest more and take time off. Another friend is giving me advice how I should not go back to work and enjoy my baby more. I want to ask them if they are going to pay my salary if I take all these time off that they suggest. It already hurts me that I am working a lot and I need to go back to work quickly, I really do not need your advice thanks.
  • My H sent me an email for a Thanksgiving Day 5k and goes maybe we could take the baby. I'm due the 18th, so just shy of a week before Thanksgiving. Uhhh no dude
  • Today someone told me that I'd need to start walking through doors sideways cause I'm so large.....

  • An hour before I went into the hospital to start the induction process my husband and I went to dinner. The waitress and me started talking and we told her that and she asked if I was getting induced and I told her yes. She goes,"oh honey you shouldn't let them do that to you." And when I told her there was a medical reason why she said," well I hope your getting an epideral because I hear it's a lot worse pain wise."
Are you for real?!! I just told you I'm on my way to the hospital. You don't know that I've been in bed rest for ten weeks and it's medically necessary for me to get induced for the health of me and my baby! Oh I wanted to scream. On the way to the hospital I told my husband to turn around so I could go back and say something because I was in such shock. He did not turn around haha.
i want to go back and tell her my labor was wonderful!

  • I get sick of patients making a comment about me working in a OB office. like how I'm in a good place if my water breaks. Also stating the office that I look like I'm going to ""pop" any day now  or how I should be over pregnant when in reality I am not.
  • My dad took my husband aside when we all went out for dinner last week and told him "You're going to make sure she goes to the gym after the baby's born, right? she's huge! " Luckily, H is a classy guy and gave him the world's best "Are you serious?" look.

    Ugh!
  • On the way out of the building I was talking with a coworker and she said something along the lines of "I don't know how moms with toddlers aren't all skinny because you're constantly chasing them around and on the go so you shouldn't have any extra weight".  Uhhh what? I really like this co-worker, super nice lady, she's in her mid to late 50s, tall, slim, great figure even though she doesn't work out or anything - she has good genetics. Lucky you. I have the short/fat genetics, I wasn't skinny before this baby and I won't be skinny after and chasing a toddler in a couple years won't change that either. even at my skinniest I'm just "normal" looking not "skinny" looking
  • I swear I hear a new one every day..
You look miserable. Are you having triplets? -- no, just one. Thanks for noticing.
You look like you could pop! You're huge!
I have 8 days left until my csection. I constantly feel the need to tell people this. I was never skinny and have always had to work on eating well and exercising. To hear I'm huge is a debbie downer even though I know I'm pregnant. At this point I just smile and nod at people. I can't wait to meet baby girl!
