SCH

Anyone else with a SCH? I had my first spotting/light bleed a week ago when they noticed in the ER that I have a SCH near the placenta. Had two moderate bleeds this past week including yesterday, but saw a heartbeat yesterday and finally got a measurement for the hematoma of 2.7x1.5 cm. Never had this issue with my DS so it's all new to me.

Re: SCH

  • Hi @harpyogi

i had a massive SCH with my DS and caused a lot of spotting early on. They tracked the SCH and it was slowly shrinking week after week and by about week 18 it had dissolved.

My OB said there was nothing that could be done and didn't believe in prescribing aspirin or anything and didn't believe bedrest was necessary for this.

it was really unnerving and also frustrating that there is no information available on the causes it cures.
i read somewhere hat drinking a lot of water could help so that's what I did.

many women have SCH and go on to have healthy babies. So try not to let it unnerve you. Xo

  • @harpyogi I'm right here with you!

I have a a moderate SCH this pregnancy which has caused minimal spotting so far. I have an ultrasound and OB appointment on 11/14 to check it again.

Side note: I also had a massive one with my DS pregnancy (almost 10cm) that lead to a severe placental abruption at 27 weeks. BUT with hospital bed rest we hung tight and make it to 37! I just wasn't allowed to labor or basically move (ha!) at all due to my severity and stress labor could put on my placenta (c section).

TYPICALLY when SCH's are found in early pregnancy, they resolve themselves by mid second trimester. My first one wasn't found until my abruption. My cousin had a moderate one with her second pregnancy and by 20 weeks it was gone! 9/10 those are the stories I hear from moms with SCH.

Hang in there and if anything doesn't feel right call your OB, but SCH can be totally harmless so take some comfort in that! (My first pregnancy I was a total minority .07% chance of it happening so NO worries for you!)
    Hugs!

  • Just wanted to chime in that I also had one with my first pregnancy and everything turned out fine, it resolved in the 2nd tri and my son was fine. I know the spotting can be terrifying but they generally end up harmless. Hoping yours disappears soon!!!

  • I had a SCH with my last pregnancy found in 1st tri, I was put on pelvic rest and it had resolved by my next u/s.
  • On Friday, I went in with spotting, and they found a SCH.  They we're pretty encouraging that my body will absorb it eventually, and all will be well.  My doctor did tell me to expect spotting, but to keep a close eye on the amount.  Hope the spotting ends for all of us soon.
  • I'm wondering if I have one this pregnancy.  I have been spotting for about a week, but it's too soon to do an ultrasound.  My levels
have been doubling the way they should, so my dr isn't too concerned.  I have an ultrasound scheduled 11/8, and hopefully i'll be able to get some answers then.

  • I had my first ultrasound today (6w6d) and they found a sch.  They told me to take it easy and I have a second ultrasound in 2 weeks.  It's hard not to worry!
