  • Thank you @foxrosy! A word you used describes exactly how I feel- vulnerable. It's like I try to convince myself I'm the type that doesn't care about what others think, but that's bs because I have such a strong fear of being judged.

H's family not so much, but I come from a highly critical, judgmental, extremely high achieving immediate and extended family so I think I've really internalized that over the years and feel like a giant failure/disappointment. Thanks again for what you said though, as you're definitely someone on here who's opinion on things matters to me. You're also hilarious and I love that because when I'm in a shitty mood (which is often these days) I read some of your posts and practically piss myself laughing. How is your son doing btw? I remember reading about how you said he was having a tough time dealing with another kid and no one was really doing anything about it? I just posted recently in the MBF something about my kid getting tormented by another kid so I feel your pain. I really hope things are better now for your little guy.

Sorry everyone for such a heavy start to the randoms, but I figured you guys could take it
  • Thank you @krob! That's exactly why I did what I did, for the reasons you stated. And you're right that I felt weak to admit my life is as it is right now, even though I know asking for help and admitting it's needed can be seen as more of a strength. And I was taken aback by how many of these people seemed to genuinely care. Thanks again for what you said.

I don't want people to think I'm trying to make this thread about me either, I just happened to be the first to post. I won't lie though, I do seek out a lot of support from you guys because I don't have much at all IRL and simply put, you guys are great at giving it to me. So I do like to share stuff here!

@krob, how was your trip to London?
  • I'm so glad I was able to somehow make you feel a little better too @foxrosy. I'm also so glad to hear your son is doing better now! Good for you for getting him in to see someone so quickly, switching him to a way better school and somehow finding more time to spend with him! That just shows how much you care about him. Trust me I know, it's not easy at all getting your kid in to see those kinds of specialists/therapists either. And I'm thrilled you got him out of that other school. Fuck that place. He will be so much better off not being there, sounds like he already is! Excellent decision on your part. He's so lucky to have a mom like you.

I know there's nothing worse than seeing your child all pent up and anxious filled with worries because mine has been doing the same and it's awful. And with stuff going in life it's so easy to fall into the trap of blaming ourselves, I understand that. I just really don't think you should have to feel like that though because everything you say on here about your little guy reflects just how much you care about him and how you would do anything for him. It sounds like he's made such great improvements already and I hope things only  continue to get better for you both!
  • Guys, I'm stuck in the Heathrow foreverrrrr!!! We were supposed to leave at 10a and now it's 4:20p  :'( (it's currently 11:25 here, for reference) Wah!!

Ahh @MommaBean hopefully the delay isn't too much longer!! How frustrating.

It's freezing cold here with strong winds and I gotta take DS trick or treating. :confounded: the candy better be good....

  • @krob our first leg was delayed bc of fog and that was going to make us miss our connection in Dublin. So they stuck us on this flight. Otherwise, it was very good!

Bah... my test results came in on the online system they have for Gestational Diabetes, I am at 143, grr.... reading online it says I should be under 140. So close... I do not have time for the 3 hour test, I need all my sick hours for after the baby is born. Tomorrow I will go in to talk to the doctor about the numbers.

  • Happy Halloween, everyone!

I'll start with a confession. I've already stolen 4 fun size candies from the Halloween bowl and scarfed them before even getting my coffee :-)

@Jab3 that was very brave and admirable to try and make a difference for so many.

@WinchesterGirl happy birthday!  Any chance of getting out early for a little time for yourself??

  • Happy Birthday @WinchesterGirl! What a fun birthday day! Hope you get to do something awesome.

So I am not the sharpest tool in the shed and scheduled my glucose test for tomorrow morning. Implying that pigging out on candy tonight would be a bad idea. By far my biggest pregnancy brain oops so far! Maybe a piece or two with a healthy dinner on the early side? I have the non fasting version but caution with my eating today still seems prudent to get the most accurate result.
  • @Jab3  leaving ones comfort zone is never easy. Way to go! I know that you made an impression on That audience.

@foxrosy im glad your son is doing better! Sounds like these were great changes for him. Anxiety is hard! He's lucky to have such a good momma!

@skiingstark that's about what I failed at both times. The ideal number depends as on the practice our local high risk doctor wants it under like 130 or something.  Most doctors will allow you to test your BS at home 4 times a day for a set period of time. This is the option I have gone with both times. I had GD with my first, but it appears I just have a sugar sensitivity here with my second. (I have a sugar issue of some kind when not pregnant). It sucks to have to take it but most women do pass the 3 hour test!!  I wish you the best!

  • Aww @Jab3 good for you for being brave enough to do that!!

@foxrosy I'm soooo glad your son is doing better :)

    and Happy Birthday @WinchesterGirl!!!

@Jab3  Congratulations on overcoming your fears. You have opened the doors for meaningful discussion and a possible opportunity for a better life for you and everyone else.

Happy birthday ,I hope it is a great one !! @WinchesterGirl
  • So I have a 'hypothetical'... you know asking for a friend ;)

DH has been complaining about his ipad for a looong time and it needs to be replaced (ipad 2), so I was thinking for Christmas and his Bday (Jan) I could get him one.  We have separate accounts that we get "allowance" money every payday $150.00, and normally we buy each other gifts from our own spending accounts.  There is no way I will be able to save up and buy the whole thing myself... so I have come up with a scheme...   So I do the weekly grocery shopping for the family, the budget is set at $100.00 a week.  I never spend that amount on groceries, so I was thinking about buy small amounts on gift cards to target and then when it gets close to Christmas I may have close to half of the cost of the new ipad and then pay the rest myself.  I know he really wants the ipad and he has considered getting it himself and if I tell him the plan he will tell me know and that he will buy it.

Thoughts? Am I a terrible wife if I do this?

@FishyMom, no you're not terrible at all for doing that!!

But how in the world do you only spend $100 a week on groceries?!?!

I am a budget shopper I suppose.  Yesterday I spent $86.00 and that included my first target GC installment of $15. :)  I am also a couponer and I plan my meals based around what is on sale at my favorite grocery store.  It does make me wonder.. how much is normal spending at the grocery store??
Wow that's amazing!!!! I spent $230 yesterday. This week we have all 3 kids (stepkids every other week) so I tend to spend about $40 more on those weeks, but I am always right around $200!!!

  • @jab3 Kudos to you for having the courage to speak of your experience,  it took a ton of strength to do so.  For what it's worth, I think it's beneficial for us as a society, to speak of the issues that many people do have but no one wants to talk about.

    @WinchesterGirl Happy birthday!!!!

    @foxrosy I'm glad he's doing better!

I'm sure there is a way for me to cut back, I just don't know how. I make lunches for me and DH, and all three kids so that adds to it. And I get enough to cook a meal every night except Friday because we do pizza. I just feel like we go through so much!!!

I was just talking to another friend of mine about how I shop too.  I normally will take the weekly add and plan my meals around that and normally for lunches the next day I double dinner (or whatever I need) and its leftovers the next day.  I also like to stick to Mon - Casserole, Tuesday - Traditional dinner (pork chops, spaghetti, etc) Wed - crockpot, Thu - Freezer meal or another traditional (sometimes I double the casserole and stick one in the freezer for a rotating freezer meal stash) and Friday - Grill or out. My DD is 2, and I have to send snacks and lunch to school but its normally not much so that may be the difference there.

I take leftovers on the weeks its just us and DD. But when I'm feeding 5, we rarely have leftovers!! So I usually make salads on those weeks. I do the crockpot at least twice a week to save myself work :)

Man, I would love to have a grocery budget that low @FishyMom, and there are only 2 of us! We do try to eat organic/unprocessed, so that definitely bumps it up. As part of our attempts to cut back for the baby budget, we're planning to try out BJs in November to hopefully save some.

Thank you ladies for all the birthday wishes!
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • @winchestergirl happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!

@Jab3 Good for you for sharing your story! I don't think I'd have been able to do something so brave like that.

@fishymom I could never spend under 100! That's amazing! We don't eat out a lot because we don't have options to but I normally spend about 150. Then I realize I've forgotten something or decide I need to go back and spend another 50 or so. Me and my husband eat a lot of food for two pretty small people.

So I wrote in symptoms about weird leg cramping/pain when I'm walking. It got to the point where I decided to call in. I've spoken with three different people so far and my situation seems to be traveling up the food chain each time I get a call back. Eek
  • And I was complaining yesterday that I spent $100 at the grocery store! Maybe it is a cost of living difference, but I am usually able to stay around $75-100. We also usually get some kind of take out once or twice a week depending on our schedules. I try to shop the sales and stock up on our staples anytime they are at their lowest price
  • @jab3 that's amazing. I hate public speaking at all so I can't even imagine doing it about something so personal. How brave.

@WinchesterGirl happy birthday friend!!  <3 we will eat candy in your honor.

@FishyMom that's the opposite of a crappy wife. Your "friends"  husband better have all the feels. We do the allowance too!  And I'm so impressed with your food budget. My H eats that much on his weekly binge day.

Our grocery budget is $100 per week for 3 of us but DD barely eats no matter what I try. This is a comfortable number for us and I'm not at all looking forward to when our growing family gets to the point that it will go up significantly  :/
  • @fishymom we do about $75/week on groceries but I would love to even bump it up to 100 or 125... when someone gets left out of a "goody" I decided my husband can bite the bullet. He came up with the grocery budget and I think it sucks lol. But I think if you are able to shave off a little and he never notices, it's a good plan. Unless he questions where the extra money came from, would he be upset?
