round ligament pain?

I've been having this dull, sometimes sharp pain in my lower right groin. It comes and goes. I don't have to be doing anything in particular to bring it on. I don't remember round ligament pain happening this early (I'm 7 weeks) with my first, but I did experience it at some point. I don't think it's appendicitis because I don't have any other symptoms. Anyone else having these growing type pains?

Re: round ligament pain?

  • RLP isn't usually until much later, once the uterus has really started to grow.

Gas pains? Bloating? Just things stretching and moving?

  • More than likely just a little bit of stretching going on.
  • Yep I am, and that's the best way to describe, as in my groin. I am only 4 weeks, was worrying me but I think it has to be something to do with growth or blood flow. I called dr to be safe and they said its normal unless unbearable or bleeding. She asked me if I had strained myself, and I have not. So not 100% sure.
  • I already have some RLP but its more around my lower belly.  I had it terrible with my second and ended up needing PT and a chiro regularly.  My RLP is super sharp and makes me want to die for about 30 seconds.  Not really dull.  Why would you throw appendicitis into the mix?   (I feel like thats a whole other ball game.) If you're really concerned, talking to your doc is appropriate but RLP does crop up quicker typically in each subsequent pregnancy.

  • Fwiw I found it started earlier with each pregnancy - and worse too. Even though that seemed counter to what you might think. Still seems a little early for it, but likely growing pains whatever you want to call it.

I was googling this yesterday, I don't think it's RLP but just how my uterus is growing. At first the sharp pains were concerning but when I drink water and put my feet up they go away (I've ruled out constipation because I have the opposite problem)

eta I'm 7 weeks as well
  • Thanks for your responses ladies! I think it makes sense that it's just things moving and expanding! @Turbotastic  - I mentioned appendicitis cause that's the first thing I thought of how it was in the lower right groin area! But definitely not that. Interesting to see from others that rlp sometimes shows up earlier if you've been pregnant
  • I'm 6 weeks along and started what seems like RLP 2 days ago. Its only when I get up off the couch or roll over in bed. The symptoms match the descriptions of RLP that I've read other than I'm not in my second tri. I have my first US this Thursday and plan to discuss it with the docs then. :) Hopefully it passes soon.
This is my first and have a history of PCOS so I'm wondering if maybe that's why I'm getting it so early since my hormones have been so off balance since who knows when!
  • I am 9 weeks, I have had similar pains since probably 6 weeks very low and mostly at night when moving in bed. I think it's normal things moving and growing. This is my second pregnancy and I have noticed a lot of changes in the shape of my stomach that I didn't have until later in my first.
  • I have the same pains and have ruled them to be RLP. I had them with my first also. It felt like lighting in my crotch area. I think our bodies know what to do and are in full steam ahead mode.
  • I've been experiencing this too very early (also my second pregnancy) and it's definitely RLP. I agree with @owensmom0807 our bodies know what to do!
