So I guess my (un)popular opinion is that white male privilege is VERY real and that cesspool of a website is full of it.
Or on a lighter note, I did not like Inside Out... it is the only Disney/Pixar movie I don't like, they usually make amazing movies (not counting sequels) but that one I just can't.

I loved Inside Out. I really think it made me a better parent. as a parent you always want your child to be happy and try to get rid of the other emotions as quickly as possible but that movie taught me to embrace all of my daughters emotions and feelings...she is highly emotional and I was doing her a disservice by not fully embracing them.
My unpopular opinion - I'm all for respecting others cultures and history but this whole thing that we can't wear certain costumes due to cultural appropriation just doesn't make sense to me. it's a costume.
Most people wearing those type of costumes (geisha, Native American, Arabian princess, African "tribal", Mexican, ninja or samurai are a few examples I can think of) don't mean any harm or want to mock or offend people on purpose. But the fact they don't realize that it is offensive to people from that particular culture is the problem.
For example you can wear a Kimono even if you are not Japanese and do so in a respectful way but wearing a kimono, painting your face white and your lips red to be a "Geisha" is disrespectful of that culture.
Cultural appropriation is another thing entirely, people who use that term use it to define when someone uses elements of a culture they don't belong to and claim it as their own. You can appreciate someone else culture, no one is saying you can't.* But making it into a costume is not appreciation.
*Well some people are, but that is a whole other debate.
If you are interested I would be more than happy to give you links to articles written by people of various cultures explaining much better and more eloquently than me just why it is disrespectful.

Also related to that I saw a news story the other day that an elementary school school cancelled all of their halloween festivities and kids were not allowed to wear their costumes to school because not everyone celebrates Halloween. I think they should have let the kids who wanted to wear costumes wear them and the ones that didn't want to or didn't celebrate it didn't have to.
But yes people don't have the intention to be offensive, but that does not mean they are not, that's why it is important to have those discussions with kids (and adults too really).
As for your second point I completely agree that they should of allowed the kids who wanted to wear costumes to do so, not everyone needs to participate if they don't want to, it is a shame to cancel a holiday because not every one celebrates it. But it would also be a good occasion to educate kids on which costumes are appropriate and which ones are not and why.

I have very expensive insurance through my work (a Fortune 500, global corporation). The out of pocket maximum for my son and I is $12,000. We have just about hit that number. My husband and I are fortunate to be able to cover the expense with savings, but there are many people who don't have that kind of cash on hand. I know that some avoid the doctors because they don't have money. I don't think that should ever happen. We allow the government to use tax money to protect our lives with policemen and firemen. Shouldn't doctors be an extension of this?

I am am so jealous of you Canadian ladies. I wish things weren't so backwards here in the states.
As an individual there is absolutely nothing I can do to make this situation better short of quitting. The problem with that is that I work for the market leader in my industry. Moving to another firm would mean a step backwards and with less prestigious clients and opportunities. That would ultimately mean a smaller paycheck for me.
This is why I want universal healthcare. Companies shouldn't dictate my ability to see a doctor or get medical treatment. Capitalism gets in the way. An admin in my office had to forgo an albuteral inhaler because with our shitty insurance it was $130 and she didn't want to spend the money. That should never ever happen!
My UO - I dislike Jimmy John's...I don't get the hype. Subway is way better...and where I live we have awesome sub places. How does JJ's stay in business??
I agree on all this health ins stuff. I'll owe about 4k and I work for the government!

My UO is about screen time. My husband and I usually watch something while we feed baby. Mostly as a sanity break. We've caught her watching the TV too, so I try to keep it limited to like an hour at most, but I don't believe it'll end up rotting her brain. She gets plenty of active playtime during the day, lots of cuddles, we talk and sing to her, and she's developmentally normal and happy.
In the beginning, when she was super small, I used to keep Netflix going while breastfeeding her because it was the only thing I could do and she wasn't as interested in it.
