Progesterone?

Funny how my first thought when this happened was that I need to ask the experts - you! Not my doctor!!!

Anyway TMI ALERT - I started the progesterone vaginal insert today (had my first IUI on Saturday). Inserted it this morning and just went to the restroom. When I wiped, I had more discharge than normal, which I expected but it was pink tinted. The same kind of color I get when my period is just about to start. Is that normal? Should I freak out? What does this progesterone do anyway? Educate me please!!!

    Some women definitely get spotting from progesterone! Some even get it from IUI. I probably wouldn't worry :) Progesterone is an important hormone for your luteal phase of your cycle, and many of us don't produce quite enough to sustain an implantation/pregnancy. So you get supplements in the form of shots, suppositories, or gel. I was on progesterone after my second IUI, and then when women go through IVF, we are generally all put on some form to help support our cycles.

    Totally normal! The suppositories are probably irritating your cervix and causing the spotting. As long as it's not painful, and stays as spotting only, you shouldn't worry!

    This is a dumb question, but what color is the pill? Mine are a pinkish (mauve) color so that's what comes out as it leaks throughout the day. The first pills I took were a pale yellow so no biggie, but then I got a refill and the pills were pink. I freaked out when I first saw it on my underwear the following morning.....I thought I was bleeding. Then I realized it was the pills. I doubt that's what happened with you, but thought I'd toss it out there. :smile:
