High Risk Pregnancy Check In?

I'm not sure there's interest, or enough regulars that are affected, but would anyone like to be part of a High Risk check in? We could discuss Dr's appointments, how we're feeling, stress,  how we're staying sane, gtky. Any suggestions would be great too.

So if you want to participate and are interested please respond, and let me know if weekly or every other week is better in your opinion.

Re: High Risk Pregnancy Check In?

  • I'm not sure how high risk you all would consider me, but my OB considers me high risk due to my weight and anxiety meds that I take daily. I have passed every test they have done early due to my weight, which is great!  However I do not have any complications now.  So yay or nay to this check in for me?

  • @elplocho looks like it's just you and me for now lol  What makes you high risk and how are you dealing with it?

  • Hi ladies! I'm definitely interested ! I ended up getting postpartum preeclampsia with my DD in May 2015. It was all pretty traumatic! I'm already having anxiety about this pregnancy but trying to stay positive! It would be nice to have some ladies to talk to that are having similar stresses.
  • @Nolegirl1185 First, I'm very obese, my specialist is sure I will develop GD, preeclampsia, etc. My OB is much more go with the flow on this front. I've had 2 uncomplicated healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

Second I probably was exposed to zika before getting pregnant, and we waited the advised 8 weeks, but it seems the new recommendation is 6 months. I am at higher risk for late term fetal death as a combination of both. It's weighing incredibly heavy on me. I'm also not feeling movement yet like I did with my other kids, and it's just increasing my anxiety.

Like @amandadhyg I'm trying to stay positive. I tell myself that right now, there's no reason to think this isn't a healthy happy pregnancy.

  • This is me for now.  My DR is considering me high risk for the time being because I have placenta previa.  90% of them fix themselves so I am hopeful that I am part of that 90% but I tell you what, bleeding at 16 weeks is nerve-wracking.
  • @Taylor72 I hope it shifts for you. I think I would be a wreck if I had any bleeding at all.

  • @elplocho I am also very obese, weighed in at 318 last week during my appointment. Because of that my OB says I am at a much higher risk of GD and preeclapmsia but is also a go with the flow DR and isn't worrying about it until it actually happens, if it is does. Is it certain you have contracted Zika or there is a possibility? I was tested for that at my very first appointment.  From what I am gathering, you have to wait until 6 months for testing? I'm so sorry to hear that there is a chance of late term fetal death, but I am happy to hear that you are trying to stay positive and keep thinking there is no reason to think otherwise at this time.  Especially with 2 previous uncomplicated pregnancies.

@amandadhyg and @Taylor72 welcome and I'm glad we can all be here for each other!

  • Hi all.

Former uterine rupture and placental abruption during pre-term labor Mama here.

Ultra high risk so they will be delivery the baby in early March if they can get me that far, all will depend on the lining of my uterus (ultrasound every monday starting at 32 weeks to check on baby and the thickness of the lining of the uterus and manual checking - ugh, not excited about that...) ... Hoping to get me to March 14th!

Throw in stupid thyroid disease... and I am just a ball of pregnancy fun!

  • Hi Ladies.  Looks like I'm going to be in this boat.  I'm almost 36, history of GD, overweight, plus my papp-a was low so they are putting me in the high risk category.

I hope we all have happy healthy pregnancies

  • @Nolegirl1185 on vacation I had textbook symptoms. I did not pursue testing at the time, like I should have, and there's so little scientific research and evidence for the "what happens now" part that the specialist is going to watch me closely, I believe, no matter what. When I go to my regular OB I plan to talk to him about my concerns.

    @LyssaChap and @dam0ne4 welcome!

  • @elplocho I'm glad you will be monitored closely, and I'm sure your OB will have some insight for you.  How far along are you?

  • @Nolegirl1185 I'm 15 and a half weeks.

  •  I have SSA Antibody which can pass to the placenta and cause congenital heart block (which means baby would need pacemaker).

It's a VERY small chance but  they take no chances. BUT now my SSA antibody is negative so maternal fetal dr says no need for fetal echo monitoring. My rheumatologist said that bc I had this antibody last year (along with positive ANA....FYI this is auto immune stuff) that they do need to do fetal monitoring....so...I feel stuck at this moment. The hospital I got he SSA antibody test at has a new test they use this year so rheum says they should test again and keep eye on baby.

  • @WkoutMomtoBe that sounds like an aweful limbo. Out of curiosity, how low are the odds?
imagelogan and ruthieLilypie Second Birthday tickers Lilypie Maternity tickers
  • 2% chance. Once you have a baby that's fine it's 1% chance.

I actually know a couple people with same antibody and each has 2 kids that are fine (though one did get neonatal lupus for a few months which is 20% chance, they checked heart and it was fine & the neonatal up us went away ).

I asked my Dr why all the monitorong for 2% & reasoning is "you either have it or you don't"

I'm in a group where several have had baby with heartblock and pacemaker. some didn't even know they had antibody so they weren'the monitored.

So I'm not too worried, dr said I'll just get a bunch of sonos
  • Sign me up, super anxious  at the moment  as the risk are   adding up with each ob visit:
    Hx of pre-eclampsia
Hx of emergency early c-section for borderline hellp
Anterior placenta, fingers crossed it moves
    Anemia (Hx and current)
  • I think I'm going to have to start blood pressure medication and I'm scared!  Anyone have any experience with this???

Some background....At my first OB appointment, my blood pressure was 130/99.  They immediately had me lay on my side and ran for the Dr.  He came in so calm, told me to sit up, introduced himself, we talked a good 5 minutes and he took it again.  It went way down.  Once I explained my anxiety background he wasn't too concerned with my high reading because it went back down and I just get "excited" easily.  However, he asked that I buy a wrist cuff and keep track twice a day.  I have been doing that for the last 10 weeks. Prior to the last 3 weeks, my blood pressure has been super good.  110/55 117/60 etc.  I know that bottom number seems low, but in pregnancy  what is considered "normal" changes.  My first trimester readings were lower than average but non-concerning.  In the middle of pregnancy, your numbers are supposed to go even lower (like the last 7 weeks have been).  Well for the last 3 weeks, my blood pressure has gone up to numbers like 128/75, 132/ 88, even 136/99.  At my last appointment my reading was 140/100!!  Again, he wasn't too terribly concerned because it never stays high like that.  BUT since my daily resting readings have consistently been higher, I have to go back in one week.  If they stay elevated or get worse I have to go on blood pressure medication. My readings aren't too terrible, but he said since I do not have a history of high blood pressure that it is pregnancy induced.  If it isn't taken care of now, then in the third trimester, I will hit critical levels and potentially harm myself and baby. I'm a horrible at googling and freak myself out so I'm trying NOT to do that this time.  Does anyone have any information on pros and cons (obviously I will go on it, I'd rather the risk factor than the for sure factor of not being on it)?

  • Hello I am high risk because of my age and cervical issues. I'm writing because I am 16 weeks and 2 days and I no longer feel very pregnant. Not very hungry no weight gain for awhile and just very depressed. This is my 3rd baby. And our 1st girl!! I find myself really worried I am going to lose her for some reason. Suggestions would be great!
  • @kristyblakely  I do not have experience with cervical issues or being AMA but I do know around the same time (now 20 weeks) when all symptoms seem to disappear I felt the same.  I still haven't gained any weight but for me that is a good thing due to being overweight. I found myself sad, depressed, and anxious that there was everything possible wrong with the baby.  I was ridiculous with google.  Once I had a bleeding scare, I have stayed away from it and been way happier. Although every pregnancy is different and you can't compare them completely, if something feels wrong it is best to talk to your Dr. about it.  One of the things that helped me most was having the Anatomy Scan.  I feel reassured that things are good.  It's normal to have some worry and hormones are crazy.  Keep your head up and like I said, if something really feels wrong, talk to your Dr. about it.  Mama knows best!

  • I am high risk because of my weight (276 pre pregnancy which has fluctuated thanks to morning sickness) but I'm epileptic so my medication can cause birth defects. The heart beat has always been strong and the ultrasounds show no signs of birth defects but they want an fetal echo echocardiogram to make sure the heart is good because my weight affects viewing the heart.

  • Just found out this morning I have placenta previa and was put on pelvic rest until it, hopefully, resolves itself. 5th pregnancy, but 1st time dealing with anything like this; any advice? And aside from no sex, how easy do I need to be taking things? Don't worry - gonna get clarity from my doc tomorrow.
  • @Nolegirl1185 I don't know that I'm helpful, but my BP has been elevated this whole pregnancy. My two other pregnancies my BP was 110/70 fairly consistently. This pregnancy all of my readings have been around 138/80. Highest reading was 144/80, best reading was 138/75. It doesn't vary much out of that zone, but it's being monitored. It makes me nervous, but my doctor is very reassuring and said we will monitor for now. I asked if there's anything I can do to help, and she said not really.

  • @ebloom3 thanks for the feedback! My best reading this week has been 116/60 and worst reading this week has been 141/89.  I only take it morning and night.  My higher readings are always in the morning.  I have my appointment tomorrow so I guess I'll see what the next steps are.

  • @Nolegirl1185 My lowest reading was in the morning. I teach, so I am sure my BP gets tested during the day! What kind of BP monitor did you get? I might get one just to give my dr. better feedback.

  • I'd love to join this group. If you see my signature you'll see i'm high risk. I'm diagnosed cervical insufficiency. I've also had gd, hypertension and placenta failure. I'd definitely love to join this group and get and be support for each other.

My anatomy scan went great today! They got all the measurements and my little one is right on schedule. My cervix is holding strong at 3.8 that up from 3.76 from 2 weeks ago :) The best part of all is that my DH was able to come to the appointment. He always makes me more comfortable with his humor and excitement, i love him ♥

  • @ebloom3  I am also a teacher, and I'm 100% sure my blood pressure is raised during the day haha. I use a ReliOn monitor.  It's a common brand and sold most places.  There are several different ones. I was told it wasn't necessary to get the most expensive, but don't go for the cheapest either.  I believe mine was 40$.  It is well worth it for me because I've been taking it daily for almost 3 months and will have to continue until delivery. I had my appointment today to review my readings from the last week.  My Dr. was happy with my results and did not put me on medication. He said as long as I'm not consistently getting readings with the bottom number being 90 or above then I'm good to go. So yay!

  • I am also high risk. age 38, history of asthma and high blood pressure. I'm overweight. So far I have tested normal for GD. Dr took me off blood pressure meds early on. I am taking zyrtec for allergies which cause my asthma. I worry that I'm not exercising enough or almost not at all because it raises my blood pressure and heart rate. I have gone to prenatal yoga and love it. it's heart-warming to be in a community of pregnant ladies. thanks.
