Re: Randoms - Week of October 24th

  • I just started a beginners yoga class and now I'm paranoid it'll hurt me somehow.  The instructor knows I'm pregnant and I took it easy but I'm just so nervous about everything!  It felt good to stretch my joints a little.

  • @ADRIANAC1982 I was just talking with my parents about this a few days ago! I personally find it really gross. I know it has a lot of benefits, but it's essentially an organ, and that freaks me out. I haven't done too much research, but I know ladies who swear by it.

  • @AandDM2014 I agree sounds kind of weird, BUT if it has benefits Im all for it, I thought it would be super expensive but its fairly reasonable, at least here in Chicago.

My husband thinks im crazy, between announcements, gender reveals, placenta encapsulation....but he's been a trooper as long as it doesnt cost millions

  • @Adrianac1982 DH and I are very likely going to do it. While there haven't been medical studies performed by doctors/FDA, the anecdotal evidence is enough to swing us to wanting to do it. The fee is minimal compared to the benefits it can provide, especially for hormonal balancing and milk supply.
@kdanjou Yoga definitely is good for you! If you are concerned, maybe you can go to a prenatal yoga place instead of just general yoga. I think as long as your instructor knows, you should be okay though.

  • @halips  - I flew when I was 4 weeks. I had two 35 minute flights and two 2 hour flights. I struggled with it only because I had morning sickness and I already get motion sickness plus the flights were rough. On my flight home the doctor told me I could take Dramamine so I took the full strength not the non-drowsy. It calmed my nerves and I was able to sleep most of the way home without much nausea. If you aren't dealing with morning sickness or have motion sickness you should be fine. If you have either of those confirm with your doctor, but take some Dramamine and it should make the flights much easier.

  • @halips I flew at 14 weeks (2 hour flight). I just made sure to keep my circulation going by standing up once during the flight to stretch and then flexing and extending my ankles every so often when sitting down to keep blood flow moving through my legs....oh and I brought antibacterial wipes and wiped down everything in my area like a germaphobe as I didn't want to catch anything!

  • Hey guys -- my random question -- I'm having an ultrasound in the morning to hopefully find the heartbeat (didn't see it on Thursday, around 6 weeks) and my husband had to leave town on business :-( so, I'm curious...will they record it for me?  Or do you think they'll let me record it with my phone or something?  Eek!

  • @BWhitta I don't see why they wouldn't let you record it. I did for one of our ultrasounds. If you're unsure, you can always ask!

  • @BWhitta I've recorded all of mine just with my phone to send to out of town husband, parents, siblings, etc. The doctors have never had a problem with it.
  • Yoga doesn't do any harm @kdanjou as long as it's not hot yoga or your doctor has adviced you against it. But as suggested you could switch over to prenatal yoga if you would be concerned.

I flew a lot @halips. Even on the day of ET. About the week your in I flew about 4 to 5 hours. And my last flight was at 35 weeks. My baby is still doing fine :)

I had an early ultrasound done @bwhitta, normally they don't let us film it, but as my DH wasn't with me she told me I could film it (I didn't had the heart to tell her there isn't a DH, so filmed it for my family  )

  • @BWhitta I have never been able to photograph or video in any of my ultrasounds. There are actually signs everywhere in the room saying no use of cell phones for video or photos allowed. I always assumed it was a HIPPAA thing or legality/malpractice issue. Hopefully, your doctor isn't as strict!

@halips I've flown this pregnancy and previous ones. Other ladies had great advice. I also refused the stand up scanner when going through security where you have to put your hand above your hand while it scans you. I don't know the name for it. I just say "I'm pregnant, I refuse" and they send me through the metal detector or do a pat down. They do say they are safe, but they won't let me 2 year old go through them,  so I figure might as well not put my other developing baby through it either. Have fun with your family!
  • Fantastic news @bwhitta!!

  • @halips I wouldn't worry too much. I saw you have already received plenty of reassurance, but I also flew recently at 31 weeks and my flight was 6 hours one way :s

Next Friday is my last week of work (35 weeks). My boss just asked me if I would mind if he put me on-call 1 day next week. I was certain October would be it for me. On-call is an additional 12 hours on top of my 40 hour work week. If a patient needs emergency surgery between 8p-8a, I'd be called into work. I politely told him he was crazy, in so many words. I think it's pretty ballsy of him to even ask me considering I could've gotten my doctor to write me a note to not be permitted to do on-call a long time ago. Too pregnant for this crap. Rant over.

Now, my ankles and feet are getting sore at night too. It's to the point where I wake up from feeling like my ankles are numb and in a bit of pain and I have to flex and rotate them for some time until I fall back asleep. Also, my belly feels like a load of bricks swinging from side to side when I try to get up at night like an flipped over turtle.

Oh the peeing @cmm012! Sometimes I don't know what to do...cross my legs, hold my belly or sneeze. I also pee a little if I laugh and can't stop laughing. Ridiculous. I wear pantyliners all the time as it's just a little bit.

  • @Griffin5413 the leg cramps are the worst! I wake myself up trying to stretch and then I feel a cramp coming on so I quickly stop.
@tvh1982 Hm, I feel like I did blood work not too long ago and iron came back normal, but I'll ask my doctor too. I'll try a warm bath to see if it helps. All these things are so random, I just keep adding to the list of overall pregnancy pains and aches.

  • I broke down today and bought a pair of maternity jeans and a bellaband. I don't really need them yet, but some days I'm so bloated that jeans are just uncomfortable to wear. I just went to Target to browse and was disappointed with overall selection. Where are you all finding clothes (for future reference)? I'm especially worried about work clothes since I typically dress in a suite.

  • @MelD17011 maternity clothes are the best! I'm not sure about suits since my office is relaxed and casual, but I did find nice work pants at motherhood maternity. I've had very little luck with jeans, but found a pair I like at old navy (also, their leggings are super comfy.) I love motherhood maternity long ruched tees too...I live in them.

  • Best ever are maternity clothes, one can't start to early I think @meld17011. I didn't wear suits, but wore a lot of tshirt dresses with suit jackets, and tshirt skirts (pencil skirts) with suit jackets.

  • TMI question:
Anyone else been hit by sudden, severe stomach pain followed by diarrhea? I was enjoying a lovely nap, then suddenly the worst stomach pain I've felt in a long time hit. Like almost painful enough to make me cry. Luckily I think that taking a Tums and having an unpleasant visit to the bathroom has resolved it, but wow did it catch me off guard! The only new thing I've had today was eggnog, and that was over 3 hours ago.

  • @cmm012 I always have a panty liner on, it's just too risky, and the bigger I get the more I leak!!

is any one else having B/H contractions? I have a few a day, they are not fun, but only in the fact that they make me so anxious that they will eventually be something to worry about! MY cousin is currently in L&D Bc of a high fever and she was not feeling baby boy, but they just ran a bunch of tests and heart sounds good and US as well.  But when she let me know I could feel my anxiety rise and of course more BH.

  • @AandDM2014 the same thing happens to me about once a month. I have GI issues to begin with but it is not pleasant at all. My ob told me maybe a stool softener, I haven't tried but I may start taking one when I feel my belly starting to get unsettled. Only thing I can offer is drink lots of water after.
  • @AandDM2014 Randomly after some meals I get stomach pain that usually results in me throwing up or having diarrhea, I don't think it's abnormal!

  • @ale9687 Thanks for the advice! I've already had about a glass and half of water because I know dehydration is a concern, and as much fun as a hospital visit would be, I'd rather not!

Thanks @Rachnan, glad to know it isn't abnormal and something I need to bring up right away with my doc!

  • I have BH since August, so about three months now @vssbrm.
In the beginning they were a little concerned as it was a little too much action of my uterus for the weeks I was in.
Now they are not concerned at all.
I may ignore them as long as they are not regular.
When I'm unsure the recommended I change position or go from sitting to walking or visaversa. A hot shower/bath (not too hot of course) would also stop them.
If they don't stop and they stay regular they might be the real deal. All I need to do is call if they worry me.
They are annoying, but not extreme pain full as they slowly got more heavy. So I got slowly used to the amount of discomfort.
I should take a break and not do as much as I do...but then again I also get them when I just watch telly.
