@PerraSucia yea I wonder if cloth will work this go around like with our first son. One of my good friends was an avid cloth diaper user with her first but she couldn't seem to find a combo that worked for her second. Just gotta do what works!
We switched to disposable the last 8 months because of childcare, but now that I've been back home, I've yet to switch back. I need to figure out the whole toddler in cloth routine so I can get full use out of our stash. I actually just got them out of storage and washed them yesterday, so maybe I'll try switching today...
I had an appointment yesterday with my endo to check thyroid (more visits throughout the pregnancy, where as other times it's usually just once a year).
They had called Monday saying that a letter was sent out saying the appointment was cancelled and they were just verifying. I
received no letter but, okay, whatever. So I called just now to resched the appointment and they say he's out because he had back surgery and won't have any openings until the new year. The hell. That's a long stretch for me to go without getting my thyroid levels checked. I get that you have your own medical issues you need to deal with but you have responsibilities to your patients too, you didn't do that good a job checking on upcoming appointments and handling them appropriately. It's not the end of the world but definitely annoying me.
so had to leave a message with his med assistant to see if I could just go in for the bloodwork, which doesn't requ an appointment, and have one of the other non-endo doctors or my midwife verify I'm still in range.
And frankly the appointments seemed unnecessary to me. He basically took my blood pressure and listened to my heart which my midwife does all the time and then felt my thyroid, which frankly there's been no issues with so I don't' think we need to be that concerned as long as the blood work is coming back fine.
We just did 2 year old photos with a few family and belly shots! She's in our extended social circle and her photos and pricing are great! She will do our Newborn photos too!
A little late to the game here - I spent most of the last two days on planes. But yesterday my FIL sent me that video that @SpicyWeiner posted. I made the mistake of watching it on the airport shuttle (with earbuds of course). I was laughing so hard I was crying, but I think other people on the shuttle maybe thought I was crying hysterically over something sad. I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard over something on the internet.
@LivingLaVidaGinger how is your pregnancy pillow working out for you? I LOVE mine, but last night I woke up on my back once and my stomach (??) twice. Though I was kind of half on my stomach, which turned out to be perfectly comfortable.
We will be doing some family shots at our home with the baby and our dogs after the baby is born but no maternity photo shoot. This is probably a very unpopular opinion (flame away), but I am not a fan of the staged and cutesy maternity and newborn shoots and same goes for engagement pics. I think they are so contrived and they will be looked back on as something like the Glamour Shots of the 80s/90s.
H and I love photography and film and shoot quite a lot, but the best photos/moments that I have are the spontaneous and low key ones - not the times where I'm dressed to the nines and doing a perfect pose....

I hated our engagement pictures. H has really squinty eyes and the photog we were using kept hollering at him to "open his eyes! Wider!" so in all our engagement pics he looks like he's super surprised
I love Galmour Shots-- those things are hilarious but I thought that in the 80s/90s
I prefer the candids more casual look too. I had my friend do our engagement photos which I planned out. We were in college and both like to paint so we set up a sheet and a ton of paint and had a paint fight. Then she did our wedding photos and our "maternity" photos by the pool one day randomly.
I actually really loved my engagement photos. DH planned it so my younger brother's roommate who had just graduated with his bachelor's in photography showed up shortly after and took the photos at the place we got engaged. They came out really sweet.
@madamerwin it'll deliver to my house tomorrow! I'm a little too excited now because I was so uncomfortable last night. I'll have to let you know what I think Thursday morning! Lol
@MrsDramaK awww I'm sure those were lovely. I know I couldn't stop beaming the night I got engaged, what a great time to capture on camera.
For those of you looking for more candid shots, apparently the word to look for is "lifestyle". I booked a "lifestyle" maternity shoot, where basically she comes to our house and she takes pictures of us in the places and doing the things that are most "us", whatever that means. As soon as I saw her shots, I loved them, they weren't too cheesy and she seemed to really capture people's personality really well. The other thing I loved? She quoted a clear price up front, and it included rights to all digital prints. The price *seemed* a little higher at first, but after all the other people got back to me and clarified what their "minimum purchases" were on top of the session fee, she suddenly became so reasonably priced!
I love "lifestyle" photography @poetryandoceans! The photographer I found that I can afford trends a little bit more toward the posing side of the scale based on her portfolio, but I think she'll work with us to keep things simple.
I loved my engagement photos too @MrsDramaK. We did avoid any props, silly poses, etc. and just had shots of us walking around the park together. It was pretty essential as practice for H, because he turned out to be extremely camera shy.
@Xstatic3333 yeah we were just walking round the arboretum where we got engaged. Since our friend had recently graduated he did it for $100 and gave us all 200ish photos uneditied, plus 40ish that he edited to look better.
DD did good on the flight and we were all able to nap. H picked up a rental car and I took the Disney shuttle with DD. They let me jump ahead because I was pregnant and had a toddler.
I might be too trusting, but my first thought was not "murder victim", it was more "Oh man, someone is having the worst day/period EVER. Poor thing. I hope she has chocolate. And wine"
@scifichick09 At my last job, we had a phantom pooper. No joke. Random turds would be in a stall, in the hallway between the stalls, etc. We had to have a meeting with HR and RE Management about keeping the bathrooms clean and to remember other people use them. HORRIFYING.
I have a random day off because I have had the worst effing time trying to sort out my pertussis and flu shots this pregnancy, and I decided I just needed a day to get it done. What follows is a rant, with a rainbow at the end.
So my pertussis shot... Health Canada doesn't actually require a pertussis shot in pregnancy, which is so bizarre to me. We live in an area that has had active outbreaks the last three winters, and my husband is a GP, so our chances of exposure are quite high, relatively speaking. Public Health gave me such a run around, kept calling me a "healthy adult" and the woman kept implying that I would be taking a shot away from someone who *actually* needs it. Ummm... I actually need it. I finally get a prescription for it, go to fill it at my pharmacy, only to have the pharmacist say they don't administer shots to pregnant women.
And then my flu shot. So Public Health WILL give me a flu shot for free... but apparently they had a shipping error for their batches, and they were all delayed. The only places that had flu shots in my area were pharmacies, and those weren't the "free batch" covered by public health; it was the batch for people not covered who want to get them anyway and pay out of pocket. So I said I was willing to pay rather than wait the two weeks to get the covered shots, because there have been news articles over the last few days saying the flu is hitting our area early, and that it's a particularly bad strain. But, again, they wouldn't give it to me. Because I'm pregnant.
So today I had enough, called my GP (who doesn't do maternity, so I haven't seen her in forever), and explained the situation. She fit me in, so I brought in my pertussis vax to have it administered. And while I was there, I was telling her about the run-around I'd been having, and she said "oh, we just got a shipment of flu vaccines in. I am unpacking one right now, because it is ridiculous that you have had to wait this long, especially since they are talking about how bad it is is this year." So she dug it out, still in the shipping containers, and gave me my shot.
I love that woman, I am so looking forward to bringing my little one to meet her. She always listens to my concerns, makes me feel heard, and is so kind and funny.
(I've been watching a lot of Parks and Rec lately.)
*Deep Breath in.*
Sorry, I just needed to get that out. I've been so furious about the nonsense I've had to deal with just to get coverage for me and my baby.
@leslie1331 oh man! we have a phantom pooper here at my job too. not on the floor, but randomly unflushed in the stalls. my nickname for this person is "the stealthy shitter". and i look at everyone kind of sideways wondering who it is....
We just found out that my DD favorite school teacher (preschool) is leaving. I'm so sad and broken hearted for her. I can't seem to control the tears over this. I need to get a grip!!!!
We need a engagement/wedding/maternity/newborn photo aw thread lol. I never got engagement photos but I had a bridal shoot in the fall months after we got married so we'd have some more romantic intimate photos. I still love them.
So the PP who had the phantom pooper reminded me of when I used to waitress at a seafood restaurant. In my three years there, there were so many poop incidents it's kind of ridiculous. *graphic poop story ahead* This one lady shat herself in her booth and left a diarrhea trail all the way to the bathroom where when she pulled her pants down, she missed the toilet and literally shit everywhere. It was disgusting but I still laugh that my dickhead of a boss had to clean it up. Waitressing for 6 years taught me that people are freaking gross, dude.
@Gretchypoo omg I can only imagine the gross fitting room stories. Do people really have sex in fitting rooms?? Apparently that's a thing my sweet virginal mind didn't know existed.
