Happy October! In case you missed it, we decided that these high-risk check-in's were occurring too often (weekly) before, so that many people felt the information was redundant. We decided to cut back to monthly, so it will show up the first Monday of every month!
This is for those of us diagnosed with any type of condition that makes our pregnancy high-risk so that we can find support and companionship during this time! Feel free to comment at any point in the week and treat this as an on-going discussion.
1. Why are you high-risk?
2. How far along are you?
3. How is treatment going for you?
4. How are you doing? R/R?
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing?
Re: High-Risk Check In - October
2. How far along are you? 16w3d
3. How is treatment going for you? They had to put me on a new heart med a couple weeks ago (I would go into why, but it's long, complicated, and medical so I will spare you the details) which makes me slightly nervous because it's Class C - and is now the second class C med I'm on during pregnancy. If anything happens to this baby I will kick myself and my cursed body.
4. How are you doing? R/R? Good, just worries about the above statement of course.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? Honestly, I feel like I've been on the lucky side... the amazingly supportive people in my life outweigh the foot-in-mouth people. DH and my best friend are at the top of the list... plus my parents and my in-laws... My parents are even talking about packing up and moving across the country to be closer to us which is AMAZING - I would have gotten pregnant a lot sooner if I thought that was a possibility! haha
1. Why are you high-risk? mono di twin miracle
2. How far along are you? 17 weeks 3 days
3. How is treatment going for you? I think I need to go on some time of bed rest soon. I now have weakness of leg and I cant sit for a long period of time... I hope my docs put me on bed rest soon
Also babies had a date gap last week. so I have to go back to MFM this week. hoping for the best
4. How are you doing? R/R? totally got annoyed at my coworker who came to my desk and told me "you don't even look big at all, ur bump is so small" No its not. but iono wtvr. I know she was trying to be nice. I guess. I freaked out. got a protein shake out. im like no. they need to get bigger. grow bigger. now im worried my bump is not big enough for both of them...
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing?
my DH is the most. he helps out and cleans up so much. he moves stuff to where I can reach and not bent down
he is the best I love him
SaveSave2. How far along are you? i'll be 15 weeks tomorrow
3. How is treatment going for you? okay so far, no complaints
4. How are you doing? R/R? I'm doing okay. I probably could be resting more but between work, life and DS, I'm doing the best I can.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? The girl in the office beside me has been incredible. She has been so supportive and always a shoulder to lean on. She's gathered some friends and they have been collecting diapers for me (just found out this morning). so sweet. she said her goal is for us to not need diapers for quite a while. she really is a gem.

2. How far along are you? 16 weeks 3 days
3. How is treatment going for you? Slow. My doctor only gave me the ok to lay down and stand for a quick shower.
4. How are you doing? R/R? I'm hanging in there. Taking it day by day. It's really hard to rest and take it easy with two kids under 3 and two dogs. One of which is a 4 month old great dane who we should have been named Destroyer.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? My husband has been my rock through this whole process. He has been working from home and has been doing everything from the cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids and making sure that I am getting the rest that I need. Without him I would be lost and probably in pretty bad shape. Although I can tell he is getting a little burned out from doing EVERYTHING for the past 9 weeks. I'm glad we have family flying in later this week to help out so he can get a much needed break.
2. How far along are you? 16 weeks as of tomorrow
3. How is treatment going for you? Not really doing any treatment. Will get growth ultrasounds later in the pregnancy to see if little one is running out of room and needs to come early.
4. How are you doing? R/R? Not the best. Anxiety seems higher this week than normal. Going to try to exercise and we are also doing a weekend getaway that should help.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? My husband has been amazing. We have been through so much together and he is so supportive of me. My mom has also been very supportive and helpful even going to a doctor appointment with me when hubby couldn't make it. Some of the reactions I've had from friends have really touched me, tears of joy, asking me what I need, offering to throw me a baby shower. I do really feel loved by them.

3. How is treatment going for you? I still haven't seen my perinatologist. My OB suggested we see a genetic counselor but they've changed their hours so it's going to be another 22 days until my anatomy scan.
4. How are you doing? R/R? Good. I finish school this week and I have job offers coming in. It's just not a good time to switch jobs. We're expecting tornados here today...yay. I slept a lot this past weekend and feel pretty good overall.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? My husband. He just does whatever he can to make sure I have what I need/want.
2. How far along are you? - 18 weeks & 4 Days
3. How is treatment going for you? - Going okay. I haven't been as diligent with checking my glucose levels for the last week or so due to outside stressors (which ironically make it even more important but I just keep forgetting...)
4. How are you doing? R/R? - I'm doing okay. I am trying to keep my stress level down because I know that will help keep my glucose levels in check as well as, you know, less stress on the babies. But is is tough right now. I work full time, am in school part time, we are buying a house/selling our townhouse, and found out this week that my grandmother has cancer and has about a month to live. It has just been rough.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? - Honestly, my husband is the most supportive person on the planet. He is constantly reminding me to eat/fixing me food (I tend to forget to eat when I get stressed), making me relax at home while he is packing, cleaning, cooking, etc. Outside of him, our family, friends, and work have been amazingly supportive.

3. How is treatment going for you? Treatment starts next week (we're a little behind because my first appointment was scheduled later than normal). I'll be getting progesterone shots weekly until 37w.
4. How are you doing? R/R? I'm doing well. So far this pregnancy is a breeze. Baby seems to be on the same side as DS was which is really, really good. Hoping I can avoid the crazy pain I had last time.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? It takes a village or whatever.
2. How far along are you? 17 weeks 1 day
3. How is treatment going for you? so far so good, MFM/OB were bringing me in every 3 weeks, but after this weekend (see below) I feel they will probably up to every 2 weeks
4. How are you doing? R/R? had a little scare this weekend, I was in l&d, with contractions and spotting, did a lot of resting, feeling better now, all cervix/baby checks were good, I go in for follow ups with MFM/OB on Friday
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? My cousin, who is like my sister, she's my best friend since we were tiny, we are only 6 mths apart, and she went through IF before me, 8 rounds of IVF to get her miracle baby, followed by 2 more healthy babies, so she's been my rock going through IF, and when I was pregnant with DD, same this time as well, I can call her and know she'll have an answer for me, she's like super mom, she's also a cancer survivor, having spent the first few years of her life at St Jude's, she's been in remission since she's been 8 years old, and we are now 36. She's an amazing source of inspiration for me, I also lost my mom before I was even engaged to DH, and when it came time for my Bridal shower then later my Baby shower for DD, she took the reigns and her and her mom (my aunt) did exactly what my mom would have done for me, they are amazing, they knew how much missing my mom through all this means, and they made sure I had showers, etc, I'm so grateful to her

3. How is treatment going for you? I've been going to the doctor weekly for cervix checks due to contractions, so far it's high and closed. I'm still losing weight due to vomiting but it's slowing down a bit. My cyst isn't growing but it isn't shrinking. Yesterday I woke up with a giant swollen face. My OB got me right in. Fortunately my blood pressure was totally normal. He isn't sure what is going on. He ordered blood work and the nurse called this morning to say everything was normal. He wants me to see my regular doctor today to investigate the cause and then come back to see him tomorrow for my regular visit.
4. How are you doing? R/R? I'm tired! Our oldest are teenagers, they have a million activities and projects. And then our little 8 month old is teething so he hasn't been sleeping through the night.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? Everyone! Seriously. Our family, friends, etc. are so excited for us. People are constantly offering to pick up our kids, bring us dinner, dropping off little gifts. Still hard to believe we are actually pregnant.
@Liss_37 - having all those diapers will be a lifesaver. For our baby shower we asked everyone to bring a pack of diapers - didn't care what brand and just pick a size. We had enough diapers for almost the first year of babyhood. It was AMAZING. We had to buy preemie sizes in the beginning due to DS having to come five weeks early - but they were so tiny I loved buying them for a few weeks. Not only was it helpful to have all those diapers it was really great to see which brands worked best for our little guy. So sweet someone is looking out for you!!
1. Why are you high-risk? recurrent pregnancy loss (8 miscarriages, 1 ectopic), hashimotos, chronic pancreatitis with pancreatic insufficiency (aka I don't absorb food/nutrients without proper enzymes), progesterone issues, factor V leiden, MTHFR, severe preeclampsia in previous pregnancy
2. How far along are you? 18.1 weeks!
3. How is treatment going for you? So far so good I guess. Starting to have pancreatic issues though. Not sure if it's because I'm eating more (I'm finally hungry and haven't thrown up daily since week 16 - still have random off days though). I'm worried there may be a hospitalization in my near future if the pain doesn't go away so I can get some IV nutrition/hydration.
4. How are you doing? R/R? Sleeping a lot but uncomfortably. I'm using four pillows currently. I hated the snoogle so I'm not doing it this time around. I work pretty crap hours as a nurse though and we were on mandated overtime last week and for the next two weeks. I usually work three days a week but now I'm being forced to do 4-5. 12 hour shifts, walking anywhere from 12-17 miles per shift. My sciatica is killing me. I can't even lift my right leg up fully anymore despite doing stretches and prenatal massages.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing? DH has been the most supportive. He gives me back rubs, he gets me heating pads, he cooks dinner, he helps clean the house/do laundry. I really won the jackpot with him. When I would wake up at all hours to get sick he'd wake up too just to rub my back and throw out my emesis bags (we both work in hospitals so we don't get grossed out easily). I'm just so so grateful to have him through all of this. He gets up with our older son so I can sleep extra, he helps him with his homework, he just goes above and beyond every day. So so blessed to have him.
Baby #2 - March 2017
I am a STM and had gestational diabetes the first time around. My DD was born At 36 w and 6 days... 1 day technically premature. But she was 6lbs 13 oz and never had to go to the NICU. She didn't seem to be condsidered premature until I started going to the drs for this pregnancy.
My Drs are now suggesting that I get the weekly progesterone shots in order to help make it to full term. I go to a large practice- some drs have given me the impression that they have to offer them to me, but I dont really need them. Another dr gave the impression that I'm a horrible mom for even thinking twice about getting them. I am hesitant because I have read that there may be an increased risk of gestational diabetes, and I already have an increased risk since I had it previously. There are a lot of other risk factors that make me leary of getting them. Of course, if my first had come a lot earlier, I would take the risk and get them without question. The fact that she was only one day early and that could have just been a due date miscalculation makes me hesitant.
Any advice? Or previous experience with these shots? Thank you so much for your help! I am meeting with a MFM dr today to discuss if I am really high risk or not... so hopefully that will clear things up and make me feel more comfortable either way...

@sunkissedvw27 I was in a similar situation with a late pre-term infant. He was born at 35w and never had to go to the NICU, however at his low weight we just barely over 5lbs. One difference for us is that he still carries the diagnosis of late preterm infant at his own appointments and definitely had some slow growth. He also had to undergo a lot of testing at the hospital and the threat of NICU was always hanging over us.
After being on the fence for a while, I decided I will be getting the progesterone shots (starting tomorrow at 19w). What my doctor told me is that yes, it was wonderful that my son avoided the NICU, but there's no guarantee that will happen again, even if the baby was born at 36 and 6. Also, second children tend to come a little earlier than the first. The only thing that has been shown effective at preventing preterm labor is progesterone injections. She highly recommended them.
I know the shots will literally and figuratively be a weekly pain in the ass, but to me it's worth it to be able to take my baby home with me after he or she is born.
Originally mono/di twins, now because we lost one twin to TTTS.
2. How far along are you?
20 weeks and 2 days.
3. How is treatment going for you?
So far okay. I've been going to bed earlier and not really pushing myself too much. The house definitely looks like it so I think I need to clean this weekend for sure lol.
4. How are you doing? R/R?
Mentally, I'm still pretty messed up from the loss of my little one. It kills me every week to go for an ultrasound for two reason, one because I'm worried that something will happen to my other little guy and two because as much as they try, I still see the other twin in there still. I'm not sleeping my day away because I'm actually sleeping at night and this week is my first full week back to work.
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing?
Honestly, it's my DH. This whole time he has been completely amazing. Both of us suck at housework so not necessarily with that lol but he cooks dinner at night lately, he just takes care of me completely. He lets me be sad and he drags me out of the house on Sunday's for football because he said it's 3 hours that I'm not sad. If it wasn't for him, I don't know what I would do.

3. How is treatment going for you?
Fine. Just lots of genetic testing and ultrasounds.
4. How are you doing? R/R?
I'm ok. The whole Turner's diagnosis is still very new so I'm trying to understand all of that. I'm so tired all the time but I can't get comfortable when I'm trying to sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep at some point!
5. GTKY: We hear stories all the time of people who say ridiculous things to us while pregnant, but I'm sure there are also people who have been AMAZING. Who has been the most supportive of you? What have they done that was so amazing?
My DH has really stepped up! I still get really queasy and overheated in the shower, no matter what the water temp is so every night my DH stands outside of the shower the whole time with a water bottle and ice chips. We just got married in March so I got pregnant really fast...but I sure did luck out with him! My parents have been super supportive and so have my close friends and the majority of my coworkers. It's amazing to be surrounded by such love.
I have Von willebrand disease. It's a blood clotting disorder. As my hematologist said to me, either way a baby comes out there's a risk of bleeding.
2. How far along are you?
17 weeks
3. How is treatment going for you?
There's no treatment. Clotting factors increase during pregnancy but there's a higher risk of factors tanking the day or two after delivery so an extended stay at the hospital is what I'm expecting.
4. How are you doing? R/R?
Things are going well. Feeling good, baby's doing good.
5. GTKY:
DH has been picking up the slack. It's kind of a blessing that he's been home on workers comp for the past few months while I've been feeling my worst. Not sure what I'm going to do next week when he goes back.
