Thoughts? We have a Sigourney Marlene, who we call Ziggy. I love having a lot of nickname options, as well as a usable middle name (My name has lots of nicknames, and everyone calls me something different, and my partner & his family all call me by my middle name). I love the nickname Winnie and Ruth is after the Supreme Court Justice.

Love it! Winnifred is one of my guilty pleasure names and DH vetoed it for a kid. We used it for our dog, but I would love to see more little human Winnies running around

I love the NN Winnie and Ruth is a nice MN, but I guess I'm in the minority in that I really dislike Winifred. I really don't like the "fred" ending. I guess it's just a NMS type thing. I do think it goes well with your other daughter's name though.

While Winnie is adorable, it's not really a grown up nickname, and honestly I don't love Winifred. Ruth is solid though, and RBG is one of the greatest humans in existence

I suppose I'm in the minority, in that I am not into the name at all. Winifred vs Sigourney, the latter is so much more sophisticated. What about Wilhelmina?

I also don't like Winifred. It's not horrible but just doesn't sound pretty to me especially with the -fred ending.

I dont mind Winifred, but LOVE the nn Winnie! Ruth just sounds old and harsh/heavy. I have never liked the name Ruth.

I love Winnie/Winifred! However, and it's a minor however, the first thing I thought of was the murderer Winnie Ruth Judd. I doubt anyone but me will think of a 1931 murderer though. She apparently lived and worked in my area, otherwise I would not have heard of her either.

@DesertDweller : I hadn't heard of that woman or made that connection... but I just wanted to give a general "thanks for mentioning it" because that's what makes this board so helpful to people... and when people take the time to explain why a name doesn't sit well with them, it's crowd-sourcing at its best! When I get a list of names going myself, I think I'd find comments like that helpful to my choices, too.
