GTKY: 10/24

Hey

I realise I am new to this particular board so I hope no one minds me starting this off. I spent a lot of time on TTGP previously and loved how as well as TTC updates, there were regular discussion threads for us to get to know each other and offered a distraction from TTC.

I don't know if this is something you have previously taken part in here and maybe I have missed it? But if not I'd love to get to know some of you a little better!

Kicking this GTKY (get to know you) thread off with a Halloween theme:

What have you done for fall? Have you picked your pumpkins yet? What did you carve them as? Pictures of all the fall things are welcome:

  • @babymish Thanks for starting this! I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I live in FL, so "seasons" are so limited here, but my favorite time of year is when there is enough chill in the air to wear a light sweater. I LOVE Balsam and Ceder scent from yankee candle...I keep it burning almost all day long after thanksgiving is over.

I don't really love halloween...not sure why, just never been a big fan! I forgo halloween decorations for generic fall/thanksgiving ones so it makes my life a little easier transition wise.

@PennStateCait I am the same way about college football! Congrats on the win! Saturday in Fall is basically a holy day in my house... :)

@MMD1986 sorry you find yourself benched :frowning: I love this idea for threads though! Takes a little pressure off the day to day fertility updates.

Your furbaby is ADORABLE. His chair is just...oh my goodness..I love it

I'm also benched.. not starting any treatments until I get my uterine polyps removed. So I totally agree- threads like this make me feel like I can participate.

  • @mtpbadger did you get to go to the LSU/Wisconsin game?  We really wanted to make the trip up there.  Everyone we talked to that went said it was so fun and that y'all had the nicest fans.

@PennStateCait and @zoey1019 thanks! I love my dog, and also think he is pretty cute. :)
  • @mmd1986 I wish! Wasn't able to make it happen with work and other trips already planned. A lot of friends that live in WI still had trouble getting tickets actually since Lambeau field is smaller than Camp Randall. It is a fantastic stadium though!
  • @mtpbadger the MD i work with is a badger and went to the OSU/Wisconsin game, it was so close  :/ Ya'll played really well!!

@MMD1986 we shouldn't start talking about our game should we.....

  • @Zoey1019 one of my favorite games every year! As long as we win and not y'all.  Lol.  Glad it go rescheduled and they are able to play.

i love the fall and all activities that go with it and also love the fact that most of them are fairly inexpensive!  We have gone on hayrides, pumpkin picking, indulged in apple cider donuts and played in big piles of leaves.  We usually go apple picking but the weather rained on that parade the two times we had scheduled it for.  We will paint and carve our pumpkins this weekend and we have two Halloween parties to go to :)

  • @mtpbadger- I'm a badger alumni too! At least they won this weekend after coming so close against OSU!

i live in WI and fall colors peaked this past weekend so we went for a hike in a state park since it was in the 60s and sunny! Not ready for winter at all!

  • @jamieh2000 yay for a fellow badger! What years did you attend? I was there 2002-2007 for both my undergrad and grad program. I'm glad they kept it so close against OSU but what a stressful game! Hopefully they can beat Nebraska this weekend!

I miss fall in the Midwest, there is nothing better. I moved to DC 8 years ago and I still miss a real fall. We get about a week here, if we are lucky.
  • @mtpbadger- I was there for both undergrad and grad too: 2006-2011. I did the 5 year accounting program. Definitely a big game this weekend! You should come back next fall for a visit- hopefully with a baby :)

  • Thanks for starting this @babymish! So fun!

What have you done for fall? Have you picked your pumpkins yet? What did you carve them as? Pictures of all the fall things are welcome:

Every year I put a pretty fall wreath/garland around our front door. Thanks Michaels! I also put out a really cute Halloween flag, and under it I bought two mums and two itty bitty pumpkins. Only I'm really awful and I forgot to water the mums so their practically dead. Oops! We are planning on carving pumpkins this weekend! My H never carved pumpkins as an adult until he met me, and at first he was kind of rolling his eyes that I wanted to do it, but now every year he takes longer to carve his than I do! He really gets into it! We only have a few trick or treaters every year, but I still like to make sure the house looks festive for them!
  • @jwg9101 That eek pumpkin is seriously impressive and far outweighs my pumpkin carving skills....

  • Love this thread @babymish!  DH and I love fall and Halloween!  Our house is decked out for Halloween inside and out.  We did carve our pumpkins... We had a Halloween party a couple of weeks ago.  We've also gone to a haunted attraction and love watching horror movies at this time of year... I especially like the "old school" ones like the original Halloween and The Exorcist.  I am constantly burning pumpkin candles from Yankee (my fave is Pumpkin Buttercream) and Bath and Body Works (too many faves to name there).  We've also had a wedding last weekend and I have another to attend this weekend.  It's been a crazy busy month leading to my FET this week... Of course the busy activities run out just in time for the 2ww! :p

@PennStateCait I loved your PSU pic!  A lot of my family was at that game as well!  A couple of my cousins went to PSU and my uncle played football there in the 60s.  They are crazy for PSU!

I will attach some pics, but I always have trouble with this... Technology hates me lol.

  • @mtpbadger & @JamieH2000 - I was at the Iowa/Wisconsin game this past weekend! I'm not a native Hawkeye, but I did my MBA there and live up in Cedar Rapids.  We usually go to one game a year down at Iowa and tailgate before hand.  Thanks for not beating us too bad this year... it should've been much worse, lol!

  • @monica54321- that sounds like fun!! Were you able to actually tailgate or too close to transfer? I tailgated for the game the weekend before, but wasn't drinking since I had just started meds for the cycle. Definitely not as much fun without drinking :0) if you are ever in the Milwaukee area, let me know as there are a few of us around this area!
