For your second kid did anyone do a meet and greet?
Were having another girl 2.5 years apart. No shower or anything this time but I would like to announce /celebrate her (does that make sense?) after her arrival. I don't want people to think we want gifts or anything though! I was just thinking something simple and I'll just put out snacks and let the big kids play?!
I think in some places it's called a sip and see? or is this a weird idea?
This is our first and we're thinking of doing a Sip n' see in April/May to cut down on the number of visitors. I don't want to entertain people right after a baby is born/during flu season, so I feel like sending invitations a few weeks after she's born for a party 6-8 weeks away will keep germy people out of my house and will keep the house quiet.
ETA - we're team green, and this was literally the first time I subconsciously referred to the baby as a girl.
I think a sure fire way to make people know it's not about gifts is to not call it a sip n see. I would just call it brunch. Or football game and apps. I think having a party that says 'come look at my baby' makes people unsure of etiquette. Just my two cents.
@WinchesterGirl We had infant Tylenol "little remedies" saline nasal spray a nasal aspirator (we had the old fashioned squeeze ball, but our friends have the one where you suck the snot out and they like it) a silicone infant toothbrush to get baby used to you brushing their gums small nail files (I was told you aren't supposed to clip their nails until 6 months and to use the file.) I loved lavender scented baby lotion and soap. It made my boys sleepy at bed time. Infant gas drops
I didn't like using the anal thermometer but that's all we could use until they were 6 months. I wish we had bought the forehead one until we could start using the ear thermometer.
I don't love Tylenol but high fevers can hit out of nowhere! I always keep it in the Cabinet!
Infant Tylenol saline spray Gripe water (love this stuff) gas drops snot sucker (the bulb works ok at first... but we still pull out the tube one for the toddler) infared thermometer
Super sensitive skin in our family so we don't use scented bath/body products. I use Dr. Bronners unscented mixed with water in a foaming dispenser! Works great as hand soap and baby soap.
@WinchesterGirlDitto the infant Tylenol, saline and snot sucker! It seems gross, but it works way better than the bulb! DD also had/has sensitive, dry skin (think cradle cap down to her eyebrows!), a huge help with the cradle cap was coconut oil! Aquaphor is great for lots of things also, we use it to prevent diaper rash.
A side note, if your LO ends up with even semi sensitive skin, skip the Johnson's shampoos/bubble baths/lotions/etc. We've used Aveno baby, California Baby, and Honest Company for those things and had good luck with all of them. They're a little more expensive, and if you live in the middle of no where like me, you might have to order them online, but it's been worth it for us. A friend of mine swears by Babyganics products, but we haven't tried them yet.
Agree with others on Tylenol, Gripe water, and gas drops. Although I'll add that Gripe water only helped our kids with hiccups and gas drops didn't seem to do anything. They're such an inexpensive thing to try that I'm still going to have them with this baby.
I'm also going to have the Aveeno Exzema lotion (the ingredients in the baby version are identical to that in the adult version and the adult version is cheaper) and lotrimin (anti-fungal cream usually for feet) so that we're ready when the first bad diaper rash hits.
The best way to clean the bulb is to put it in boiling water for a few minutes and every minute or so squirt in and out some boiling water. We didn't use it on the nose, we used it in dd's mouth to suck out the extra milk she didn't drink when she would fall asleep.
I thought using the nose frieda would be icky but... babies are so gross that I got pretty quickly desensitized to any sort of ick. Anything to make my son comfortable enough to sleep when he was sick and miserable and making me equally miserable. Worth it! I even lost the little blue snot-block filter in mine, and I'm all, "eh, still works."
Love the bath recommendations for sensitive skin. Does anyone have preferences for diaper cream and diaper rash cream? I've seen a few brands a lot but not sure what is actually good to use
@lfrank12 We use Boudreaux's Butt Paste because the name is funny. We've tried the red and the yellow tubes, and the red seems to work better for our kiddo. Plus, did I mention it's called butt paste? Sold.
We do Desitin also for when we have an actual diaper rash. Like I said above, we do use aquaphor as well. For example, once DD started sleeping for longer stretches at night, we would put a thin layer on her before bed. It creates a boundary from the diaper (and what's in the diaper) from irritating her skin.
We have used a variety of creams. A+d was our go to when dd had a bad flair up. Our pedi recommended using an antacid like Malox on the rash to help kill the acidity and then apply the diaper rash cream.

We've used so many different types of creams but what has always been the best is just plain ol' Vaseline.
Also in case this is useful for anybody... our DD had a terrible yeast infection. We took her to the Dr and he gave us multiple prescription creams to use. The creams would start to work but wouldn't get the job done. Finally after I think 3 tubes of the prescription stuff our dr said to use Vaseline. At first I was like "he's giving up" but we tried it, and it cleared it right up. Basically I'm promoting Vaseline for something to keep around. Even if you buy the other stuff, if it doesn't work just remember to try it out.

Theres no way to clean the insides, and people have cut them open and found mold inside.
Barf.
Get the nose Frieda.
