Hello I am 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant with twins. I believe they are di/di but still am not sure but have had almost now 5 scans. When I first started with my doctor at almost 6 weeks only one heartbeat was found and the other sac was thought to be empty. 5 days later another scan was done due to some abdominal pain I was having and it showed both heartbeats. I am now scared bc they are saying that baby B is measuring 6weeks and 4 days and baby A is measuring to the correct dates. Has this happened to anyone else? Also had another scan in the ER Sunday and both heartbeats were recorded A was at 170 and B was at 147. Please share your stores as I am very scared.
Re: Twins measuring different dates
If you think they are di/di, then implantation (likely) didn't happen at the same time for both embryos, so if Baby B implanted later, they would be a little behind. You also could have ovulated a second egg later that became fertilized and implanted after the first one did. With di/di twins, there are a lot of potential variables.
Seeing HB for both is a good sign. With DS, his HB at 8 weeks was 140, and to my knowledge, both of those HBs look on track for their ages.
a word of warning, and not to scare you, but my son went on to develop IUGR and was born 5% for growth. My OB briefly mentioned a possible correlation between the miscarriage of my twin A and baby B's IUGR. It's rarely talked about because it's almost impossible to pinpoint the exact cause. Had we not discovered it via ultrasound at 36 weeks he likely wouldn't have made it, but he's thriving now.
Also, never EVER pay mind to the people who tell you to "just be happy that one of them made it". It is ok to mourn and be sad. Your baby was real and your baby mattered, do not let anyone invalidate baby B. Give him/her a name if it helps your process. Never feel wrong for mourning the loss of your B baby while celebrating the birth of A.
My baby will be 1 next month and I still think about what it would be like to have them both here. It is normal to think about those things. If you ever need to talk, send me a PM. I don't check into The Bump as often now, but I'm still around
Look into Twinless Twin support groups, I have heard that they offer great advice on coping mechanism.
