Gender announcement etiquette

Hello fellow parents to be! We just found out we are having a boy and are excited to share the news. We will not be having a shower as our families are wide spread and we live in upstate NY where nobody wants to travel come winter. In it's absence though we wanted to send out gender reveal cards and include our registry information. Just not sure what to say or how to present the big reveal and registry info without it sounding like "It's a boy! Now Buy us stuff!"

Any suggestions?

Re: Gender announcement etiquette

  • Unfortunately, I think that's exactly how it's going to come across no matter what.

  • I think I would just send out gender announcement and not include the registry. I would just tell people where you are registered if they ask. I'm not doing a shower either but I have three registries(walmart, target and amazon) so if anyone asks there are plenty of options for them

That's perfect! Be sure if you have the same items on each registry to update them as their purchased or you might end up with 3 bathtubs.

This ^^ only bring up registry if people ask.
  • I also agree with PP.  if people ask then give them your registry info.

  • From what I've heard it's best to let registry info spread by word of mouth, even if you are having a shower.

  • +1 for don't put registry info on the announcement.
I'd just make sure whoever the hub of information in your family is (mother, grandmother, chatty sister, etc - probably the first person who asked you where you're going to register anyways) knows registry info and trust it will disseminate that way.
