Just found out I will have a new boss, starting Monday. Except then he's going to be working on a project in Jordan for 6 weeks, so I pretty much don't have a boss for the rest of the time I'm in the office and when I get back from maternity leave I'll have a new boss. I've heard really good things about the new guy, but he is apparently a lot more hands on then my current boss. And my current boss has been great with flexibility around my pregnancy and leave - I have no idea what to expect with the new guy on that front. I hate change...
Soooo we have a costco box of size 1 diapers, and a bunch of other random NB diapers...roughly 500 NB diapers. Someone gave us two costco boxes of size 2, which we won't need for awhile. They say roughly 10 diapers a day right? Times 2 for us...so our current stock of NB diapers won't even last us a MONTH. Gah! And DH wonders why I want to do cloth diapers as soon as we can. Getting a costco card Monday...we'll be spending upwards of $100/month on diapers. Ugh. I knew we would end up using a lot...but sheesh.
I set up this post guns blazing and then went to work out. Now I feel quite a bit better so I'll BF about something lofty.
It's driving me nuts how much trash our lives produce. I'm making a serious effort to reduce the trash that comes from my household - reusable bags, reusable containers, buy in bulk, use reusable produce bags, don't buy drinks in disposable containers often (which makes me drink water more which is healthier anyway), don't buy much processed foods or take out (also has the healthy bonus), cloth diapers, we buy almost everything used (cost savings bonus)
But there is still so much trash and waste. And I feel like we are such a minuscule dent in the problem. And it's sort of a global nightmare. I guess I am just pissed we haven't come further and also pissed that I really am just waking up to the fact that I should make changes. That it's not just some fringy hippy cause. (photo from idiocracy)
@brittnic86 yeah I'm guessing 480 ish diapers a month for the first few months. It does slow down after a few months though. I've budgeted $80/mo for diapers. We'll see how much I need to adjust that. Just hoping we don't need to add formula to that cost - that will be hundreds per month.
second BF. A few weeks ago I found out Anthony's does GF pizza and since then have been wanting to try it but haven't had the apatite for it. It was my favorite before being diagnosed. Well I said SCREW IT today and went and got one. 10" pizza should last me for a couple work lunches, right? No. Like 15 minutes later and it's gone. I freaking inhaled that thing. It was good. But now it's gone. And I ate too much but did it too fast to realize it.
Side note, @brittnic86 and @DiFazette - OMG the logistics of twins... carrying and then caring for. I can't relate. I can't empathize. But just I totally sympathize and... just... hugs!

I'm getting a new manager too, starting next Monday. No idea what to expect, but I've had the same great flexibility with my current manager so I'm a little nervous. But I'm mostly just over it!
My boss/scientific lead (different from my manager) is driving me nuts! Its 4th quarter crunch time, but she constantly wants to double-check everything with me MORE THAN ONCE before moving ahead. And then she insists on putting processes in place that she doesn't follow. Like we created a task list on the share drive so we can keep track of what needs to be done for each of our 11 studies. And then she writes down her tasks in her notebook (which is her prerogative) and never updates it in the list until we have a 1-1 meeting, then she tells me the status and I have to update it in front of her. JUST UPDATE IT YOURSELF, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF HAVING IT ON THE SHARE DRIVE!
She also asked me to adjust my hours last Friday so I could make it to a 4-5pm phone meeting (rescheduled from a different time that she was going to be late), then 30 minutes before asked me to do another task instead. A task that has been on her task list for 2 MONTHS and she panicked because she thought it was due. I told her it wasn't and now somehow its on my list of things to do in the next two weeks.
I don't mind doing the work, its just so inefficient!
Saturday we had our shower. My mom invited my brother, who I knew wouldn't show up because we don't get along. I also knew he had gotten a ring for his gf and has had it about two months now. I just knew he'd wait and do it the same day as our shower because he's a child and attention whore. That, or he would have shown up and had a full blown toddler hissy fit (age 30) like he did for my wedding because it wasn't about him. Guess who was right on when he'd propose! Oh well. Part of me is guessing he thought my parents posting about his news would over shadow the announcement (we hadn't announced on facebook) and the shower pictures. I'm just waiting for when they plan a rush wedding for Christmas time, seems appropriate for him.

@l9i I know what you mean about over shadowing. My younger sister has always been the fave in the family (just us 2). I was excited that my parents finally had something to be excited about when I told them I was PG, as my mom as been wanting to be a Grandma for a LONG time. However, my sister's BF decided to propose over July 4th weekend this year and they decided to get married at the end of March. Um, thanks for ruining my excitement cos now my parents have been busy helping her plan and I feel like me being PG got lost in the shuffle. I know it's not her fault, as she didn't know when he would propose, but seriously. It was time for me to shine for once and then this happens... and I am pretty sure they like him more than they liked DH, so that's great too.

December'16 December Siggy Challenge: Elf on the Shelf Fails **winner**
hahaha glad I'm not the only one with a sibling who does that. When I got engaged it was December, my sister, 6 years younger than me, started acting really weird. Didn't talk to me. Until a month later when she called to tell me she was engaged! We planned our wedding for August, she was trying to plan her wedding for May....then finally was convinced to wait until the next May. But that didn't stop her from doing the whole go to David bridal with everyone, try on dresses, say yes to the dress...all when I was right in the middle of planning my wedding...which was happening in 4 months...
The entire time my mom swore that she wasn't trying to steal attention....everyone else saw it.
@slartybartfast I worry about the trash thing too. I hate the plastic containers that fruit comes in at Costco. Gr. But we recycle, and compost food scraps/napkins in our yard waste bin. It saves so much that our garbage can is usually only half full come garbage day. I also belong to my neighborhood Buy Nothing group and when we are done with something useful (blender, sheets, kid clothes, etc.) I give it to someone who can use it! It's great. Like an ongoing garage sale for free.
My BF seems not that legitimate. I'm tired, so tired. I get worn out so easily. I start projects and struggle to stay on task and finish. I'm just so tired all the time.
I'll skip the details of the first two points, which would be: -My car is dead...forever sleep -I hate my parents and their blatant disrespect of DH and my wishes
Our apartment complex's office called and said USAA made a mistake on our renter's insurance new address. No big deal, just call and have them correct it. So I call them and a very nice, older lady answers. They made a note about Hurricane Matthew in our file for claims, and she asked if we were ok. I said yes, it's just a bad time because I'm pregnant and we don't need the stress. She asked if the pregnancy is going well, and I said yes overall; having some BP issues but I'm in good spirits!
Then she said one of the best things I've ever heard in my life: "I hope you're not taking any medication for your BP...you should just eat a banana and it will go away." LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Her authority, in her words, is that she is a *grandma* and she *knows* these things.
Then she gave me a golden opportunity after all the information finally got changed. She said that she is a cancer survivor, to which I asked, "How many bananas did you have to eat before you went into remission?"
I thanked her for her time and hung up after the silence was too uncomfortable...for her. Why didn't anyone tell me phallic fruits are the cure for what ails you? Consider me enlightened.
ETA: I'm not making light of cancer--just pointing out her logic in the treatment of serious health issues.
On the overshadowing thing... my older sister is so ridiculously jealous of me she let it destroy her life basically. Really sad but no one wants anything to do with her anymore. The stupid part is she was better than me at everything! But the last straw was almost 10 ago when I was in an abusive relationship (older man I met when I was 16) and we got pregnant when I was 20. My mom and dad were really worried, with good reason, and my sister decided since I was getting all that awesome attention she was going to have a mental breakdown and leave her awesome job/nice apt etc and go live with my mom who kicked her out after a year of being a slob and doing nothing to improve her life. Anyways, everyone begged me not to tell her I was pregnant because they knew she would do something crazy. I told her when I was about 4 months along and she, at 26, hooked up with the 18 year old bus boy at the restaurant she worked with and turned up pregnant 6 weeks later! Long story short, she hates kids and gave her baby up for adoption. Now her whole life is a sob story about the baby she "had to give up" and how I get all the attention because of my kids. And she's severed our relationship because she hates kids so much she can't be around her own niece and nephews.
Woooo guess I had a bitchfest today and didn't realize it lol
@yellingbanana: I totally hear you on getting tired super easily! I work a desk job and the mental energy it takes to start a task and stay on task seems to have increase exponentially in the last 2 weeks! I can't imagine if I had to do something with any level of physical demand!
My BF: We are hiring 3 - 4 people for my team (which is a team of just me right now) between now and when I go on leave and I just found out that one of them (the most junior of them!) starts only 10 days before my due date! I really hope LO doesn't come early and I hope the other people that we are hiring start before then so he has someone to help him if I'm already gone.
@brittnic86 Yup. I had several people say something to me about it such as "wow, is your brother that starved for attention he couldn't even wait one day?!". Especially knowing past behavior and personality, people can see right through it.

@whitneyp26 - holy smokes! That sounds like a really sad and very messed up situation! I count my lucky stars that no children have been tangled up in my family drama. I think that would just devastate me
I think I might be the bitch today but I also think several factors warrant my mood. Started my day with my GTT and biweekly OB appt. At my appt my new OB told me that my old OB marked that my pap was abnormal at my 9 week check up, however they never reported it and told me it came back fine. It did not come back fine because they apparently noted that I may or may not have HPV. I've never had an abnormal pap or STD so I find this a bit concerning because, well, I just don't know the seriousness of it all! So now after baby arrives I'll have some sort of follow up pap with some extra stuff involved.
When I finally got into the office at 1130 and starving I received some not so good news about a brand new employee that may impact his job with us. I have spent 18 months filling his position so that's not fun.
I have given my assistant oral and written updates daily for the past 2 weeks on his recruitment assignments and he approached me this afternoon because he has no idea what he is supposed to be working on. 'Scuse me?
I finally get home after 6 and find out that SO has brought DSD home, which is great because we've missed her since she's been at her moms the last 5 days. What isn't great is that she has a fever and sore throat and has been lounging on the couch this afternoon with her tissues every where. I swear if I get sick I'm going to blow a gasket. More so, he didn't get her any medicine and expected to feed her spicy chili tonight that I had made over the weekend. And when I went upstairs I discovered that she used my curling iron and hair products and left them all over the place. Normally I'm not bothered by this stuff but he should know better that if she is truly sick then she should either stay at her moms or be up in her room resting. And he should have gotten her medicine and some soup or "sick" food.
So since I've been home I've cleaned the living room, put away my hair stuff, sent SO to the store for meds and soup and have been searching for our damn thermometer so I can take DSDs temperature.
@slartybartfast ugh... I'm disgusted with myself and I've been saying it for a week. Our water was compromised for a while so I've been living on bottled water and I'm so sad about the bottles. I feel terrible but have no option until I can buy a hella expernsive water filter for my fridge next week. It makes me sad.
@dmontgo this was a UO/BF/FFFC many times over last pregnancy and early this one. People who act like their diet tricks or old wives take will help a serious medical issue. You should call USAA back and tell her she needs to contact every cardiologist to make them aware of this breakthrough treatment option.
@DiFazette It's like...how many bananas are we talking here? Just a singular banana? A bunch of bananas? A banana dipped in chocolate? So many ways we can literally make a killing by suggesting bananas for high BP disorders!
@ajstevenson WTF to your DH? How do you not know how to take care of a sick kid? If she wasn't too sick to use your hair stuff, then she needs to be up and doing.

So, he came home with two boxes of frozen French fries and a pack of microwaveable mashed potatoes, and a can of chicken noodle soup. While I'm prepping dinner for tomorrow night he gives her a box of fries and the ENTIRE CAN OF SOUP. She inhaled the fries of course and asked for more. Which he apparently gave her, and she ate two bites of soup. I'm completely dumbfounded right now. Also, she has no fever and was well enough to eat a shit load of fries for dinner, so she's definitely going to school tomorrow.
I have a work BF too. My boss (who doesn't like me and most of our department doesn't like her) told our only full time tech (40 hours per week) that she could go out of town for five days in a row without having approved vacation time left for the year. I make the tech schedule at work so when I saw this request off in our scheduling system, I asked my boss why this tech was allowed to take five days off. She basically said she did it to be nice to her. Important fact, ALL of my other techs besides one are full time students with very limited availability (they each work anywhere from 10-20 hours per week) and I have no way of covering 40 hours of this tech's shifts. I could cover some of her hours by asking people to pick up shifts, but not all.
I was super annoyed because of course I knew I closed on our busiest night right in the middle of this tech being gone. Mondays are the craziest days in pharmacy world and I knew I would be screwed tonight. And I was right. I was running around like crazy, hardly had time to pee let alone sit down. I left work tonight with a splitting headache, my feet and back hurt so badly, and I am just so irritated that my boss would let a full time employee go on a trip for five days when we have no way to fully replace the hours. How does it make any sense to let the rest of us be super stressed and work ourselves to death for five days just so my boss can "be nice" to one employee?? No clue.
@slartybartfast it is sad, but my nephew went to a really nice couple who could give him a wonderful life and a sister the same age. Im more sad for my kids that their aunt is a nut job who won't have anything to do with them.
Sounds like everyone is having a hell of a time. So glad we are getting close to the end.
So either last week, or the week before, or both, I posted a BF about work as well, related to my boss making stupid requests of me such as don't ask the students to put their heads down because it gave him bad catholic school flashbacks. Super annoying and a dumb request but I was doing it to the best of my ability anyway because I plan on being done after this year and I don't need to rock the boat and get put on an observation plan early.
So yesterday me and another colleague have a meeting about something different, and when it is over, my principal asks me to stay back and sign for a letter he has for me. I know the drill, I'm in trouble, I signed for like, 5 of these letters last year.
The letter is for him catching me using the "heads down procedure" while he was in the next door teacher's classroom observing. He said it is not "responsive classroom" or PBiS and that is why I was directed to stop, and this is my formal warning and the letter is in my PERSONNEL FILE. No. This does not fly. First of all, because it is not against Responsive Classroom of PBiS (schoolwide interventions for behavior and academics, for the non teachers!) and I have three examples of how it is not. Second of all, you didn't even nicely ask me WHY i used it...I slipped! I usually tell the kids to use a "comfortable quiet position that leaves their body relaxed." I shit you not I even use this on the morning message when I give written instructions.
Anyway I wrote him a not so nice letter back. Give me a dumb reason not to do something, fine. Tell me its against school policy and formally sanction me because of your bad elementary school experience: No effing way sir. No effing way.
This may turn into a WTF Wednesday if this crazy train continues through the week!
@SmashJam Are you part of your union or local/state association? I'd get some backup on this. You are 100% in the right, and need to shut this shit down. If you can get your association or union in it you might be able to get him written up.

@SmashJam don't schools these days have, like.... REAL problems that he should be dealing with??? Why is he wasting time (and money - either tax payer or parent) bothering you about this redundant detail???
@Toller and @Kate08Young I am definitely getting my union involved...I am beyond frustrated! And yes, we definitely have more important things to be worrying about than this, which is why I am pretty sure he's targeting me specifically.
It's Tuesday but man. I think part of the processing of everything going on right now is involving me getting very agitated. My family stress plus some ridiculous behavior from some work people driving a ship that I'm responsible for keeping afloat but being put on really hard places with plus friends visiting that just seem to be continually bsing us and making no effort to make plans with us unless it involves us watching their kid... I'm all claws at the moment. I think I need to keep myself a bit quarantined so I don't go off on people. im definitely a live wire. Make good choices slarty!
@slartybartfast I generally don't open the family threads but I caught a bit of what you're dealing with and just wanted to offer my virtual support and hugs. Totally understandable that you'd be on edge... I think anyone would be.
Had an introductory meeting with my new boss today. He spent the whole time sneaking peeks at my chest. Why is it so hard to get a decent boss for more than a few months at a time? I've been through so many shitty ones, why did they have to transfer the one good one I've had in the past 10 years?
I'm finally posting today because the past 2 days have been crazy. Basically my coworkers husband told her over the weekend he wanted a divorce because he was in love with someone else, so I've been consoling her. But my BF is from my shower. One of my friends said she was coming and messaged me and was asking all sorts of questions about the shower, if she could bring her kids and whatnot. And she didn't show. No indication of why she didn't come, nothing on Facebook about one of her kids being sick just flat up didn't show. I'm just a little hurt, but that's petty compared to what some of you gals are bitching about.
