TTC After a Loss

Answers **TW Loss mentioned**

After years of loss, hurting, struggle, infertility, and more... I finally have answers.  In the past (before my new husband and I were together), I went through 12 miscarriages, fertility treatments, etc.  Then my daughter was stillborn at 22 weeks due to preterm labor, incompetent cervix, and hour-glassing membranes.  So when my husband and I met with the specialist 2 weeks ago, the suggested genetic testing.  I was a nervous wreck to say the least. It's super expensive and not covered by my insurance.  But it was necessary, so I went with it.  Turns out... it was the best money I've ever spent.  I was diagnosed with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) or more commonly known as Hughes syndrome. It's a blood clotting disease that caused all of my miscarriages.  The great news, is that I finally let go of some of the guilt I've been carrying around for years.  I know that sounds strange... to be happy about a serious, incurable disease... But it wasn't me.  It wasn't something I did or did not do.  There's no more "Oh, it happens."  or "it just wasn't meant to be", etc.  Now we know.  And we have a plan.  So I started medication and the doctor has approved us to try this month.  So I am on cloud nine today! And I just wanted to share.

  • @sparrowmomma24 I am so happy you have some answers and sorry it took so long! I also had a stillborn daughter (25 weeks) after an incompetent cervix and they did a loss workup on me almost as a formality even though my cervix explained our loss and we found out I have APLS too so I really can relate to you in that sense! As far as I know they're not related though...
  • I'm sorry for your losses but that is great news, in a way. Now you can develop plans and goals. I feel like it's easier to try to find a solution to a known problem than it is to just keep guessing or being disappointed in your results when you don't have an answer yet. Good luck to you!
